Player Watch Pick #18 (2019) - Mitch Georgiades

Think Mitch is certain to come back in this week.

There’s going to be changes if we lose and all Mitch needed to come back in was some evidence his confidence was back up.

Amongst the best players and 3 good shots on goal in a sanfl side that is struggling is as good as we are going to get from him.

There’s nobody else we are bringing in that brings as much to the table.
I dont think he is a certainty at all.

I wish Mitch georgiades was cheating. It might make him play better

If you’re Mitch why would you stay at port, Ollie Lord getting games ahead of you. May as well head back home and play 22 games a season

Last SANFL game Mitch kicked 3 goals, Ollie had 1 goal and 4 disposals
Hope not. I still think he will be an exceptional talent and is just going through a lull before his form sky rockets. He hasn’t nailed the opportunities he’s had this year. He needs a game where he dominates possession, marking and goal scoring. Lord will get a short taste of it now to show him what it’s about and for us to see how he fits in that forward line. Lord is a replacement short and long term for Dixon (if he can prove his worth). Georgiades has a role in the side irrespective of whether Dixon/Lord play, so long as he finds form.

I think he's one of those players you just keep picking and you'll get the rewards. He'd be pretty devastated at today's selections i'd imagine. Do we think Ollie Lord or Mitch Georgiades is more likely to become an elite KPF for us? No offence to Lord but Georgiades has shown so much. Has to be persisted with.

Lord got picked off the back of kicking 4 goals on the weekend. Georgiades could have matched or beaten that but his kicking for goal was terrible.

At another club he’d have spent the preseason stacking on 5kg and kicking set shots rather than trying to develop him into a marathon running Sam Gray replacement flanker.

Needs to play out of the goal square for the Magpies and clear every other scrub out of the forward 50.

Hinkley has completely botched the management of this.
How on earth is this Hinkley's fault? I am all for the Hinkley hate, but in this case, it is absolutely not warranted. The guy has been in all sorts since the first preseason game. He has lost all of his confidence, he miss times his jump at the ball on almost all occasions. Have you even watched the SANFL games he has played since being dropped? Nothing about his performances suggest he is remotely close to coming back into the team. He fumbles, he drops simple marks, he misses the easiest of goals, his leading patterns are shocking and his set shot is completely gone. He looks very much like an average SANFL player right now. He desperately needs to find some form and confidence before being picked again.

Mitch wanted to join the Gray hound syndicate... But ken told him to bugger off.. so now Mitch has lost all his confidence.

So as ya see it is all Ken's fault.

Mitch was drafted as an athletic high end first round kpf, he came out of the blocks and was a gun to start his career

There was no sign of the kicking yips that now plague him.

Hinkley has had no idea how to coach him.

He tried nothing and he’s all out of ideas.

Late last year he dropped him and brought him back in, as if that’s some super cure to his kicking or confidence.

Now he’s dropped him and shown no interest in bringing him back in.

This is very much on the coach. It’s literally the entire ****ing job of a coach to handle this, and he’s done about the worst job you could imagine.

LOL. You don't just pick someone because they are in shit form because you think they will be good long term. Dropping him is actually a good coaching call. It needed to happen and it will benefit him in the longer term.

He is in a shit patch of form and has been in the reserves for a few weeks. It is not the end of the world, calm down.

So when he was good, that wasn't Hinkley coaching him, but when he is shit that is all Hinkley's poor coaching? You have absolutely zero clue, just like the rest of us, what they are working on with Mitch during the week with his kicking yips and confidence.

He was absolutely dominant against the academy (you would hope he would be, but he still was).

The only issue has been his goal-kicking. He is averaging the 13th most shots at goal in the AFL (4.5 per game), the best of any port player.

Even against the academy, he had 6 marks inside 50 that I saw (for 2.3 and one goal assist to Barkla - admittedly two of the misses were really bad - 15 out straight in front, and about 25 out, played on and missed). Seemed to be timing his leads really well, and clunked almost everything that he flew for.

I want him back in, but it would be at the expense of:
  • Forward pressure if he comes in for Rioli or McEntee
  • Ruck flexibility if he comes in for Dixon or Finlayson

It is an interesting problem. Do you prefer a Marshall type, who averages 2-3 looks per game, and nails them? Or a Georgiades type (at the moment) who averages 4-5 looks a game but is running at less than 50%?

Can see West Coast being hard to deal with after the Rioli deal. The one thing that might help Georgie stay is that he appears to be very close to a number of our players. He and Burton are basically joined at the hip.

Man that first line might have more credibility if you weren’t using it in the same week teakle got selected

What evidence do you have that dropping him is a good coaching call and will benefit him in the future?

Has it worked in the past for Mitch?

Has it worked in the past for any other kf on our list?

can you explain the mechanics of how dropping him to the sanfl will help?

How specifically will that address his goalkicking issues?

I’ve never said it’s the end of the world, I’ve called it another coaching blunder from an long line of blunders from our head coach who appears to the the coaching aptitude of a rock

What it is the end of is mitchs career at port.

We’ve almost certainly killed his desire to play here, and we’ve tanked his trade value to boot.

He is AFL standard and should be in the team. We will lose him at the end of the year because of all this crap
Prepare yourself for Kane Cornes and Michelangelo Rucci to start running stories about his 'bad attitude' to soften the supporter base up for the second rounder we get for him at the end of the year.

I absolutely expect it. Pleased to hear Timmy G bring up his non selection as poor frequently. Clearly not one of Ken's pets. Has Hinkley called him "the big show" yet?

Mitch will be spending a lot of time with uncle Costa in the garden this year, it appears by Hinkley's selection choices.

He better find a way to straighten up, else he'll be gone.

Another player with huge potential in danger of the scrapheap ... cough John Butcher cough

REH -
I do not want this to happen ;)
