Player Watch Pick #18 (2019) - Mitch Georgiades

I always find it funny when you regress to personal abuse instead of coming up with anything resembling an argument supported by facts or reason.

It shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.

I've presented clear data that shows Georgiades performances have been strong with Dixon in the side. You've shown nothing except weak personal insults.
You've presented 3 examples of another key forward having a good game alongside Dixon. 3. He's played 152 games for us.

Well they are very recent examples which make them more relevant.

And the evidence that suggests historically our forwards play better without Dixon is essentially non existent.

And Ratugolea essentially has played the Dixon role when he hasn't played anyway.

Butttttt on second thought, I totally agree with you. Dixons dark juju energies interfere with Todd Marshall's chakra spirituality.

Georgiades has kicked heaps of goals with Dixon in the forward line (and no Marshall).

3 against Carlton, 4 against Swans, 3 against Richmond.

Your ramblings and rants about this issue are actually insane.

You clearly haven't read any of my ramblings on this issue, because if you had you'd know that my issue isn't Dixon, I called for him to be selected ahead of Ratugolea. I'd even prefer to keep him on list next year. My issue is playing Ratugolea and Dixon in the same forwardline where we become so stagnant that there is no space being generated for Georgiades to lead into.

It worked against Carlton as a surprise position switch, and it worked against Sydney in a complete demolition, but it hasn't worked since.

We're stuck now, so we'll basically have to hope it works out. We'll need Esava to get some separation and take some marks on the lead. He's athletic enough, he's just not really a natural mark on the lead sort of player.

What thread do you think you're in?

Players who mark on the lead require space to lead into. Space in the forward line requires movement to drag defenders out of their positions. Georgiades is going to kick a lot of goals however we play, but he'll kick more if we structure the forward line around his strengths, and that means his fellow forwards have to move, they have to be dynamic. You can't have 2 Dixons unless you have the most elite small forward line in the game and are banking on sharking a lot of packs.

That's why I think Lukosius would be good with Georgiades.

We don't have a choice now anyway. Marshall is who you wanted and it's clear he's no longer fit to play contact sport.

In his time as a forward this season Rat averages the same number of MOLs as Todd this season (1.2 per game). Rat is fine as a leading mark. Our gameplan doesn't encourage him to play as leading forward. The coaches etc want him to play as Dixon mk2. He is not encouraged to lead and when he does those leads are generally not honored.

Agreed that encouraging Rat and Dixon to play as contested forwards leads to a stagnate forward line leaving Mitch and Willie as essentially our only leading forwards.

God help us if we get past the prelim and Hinkley is retained as coach it will be another year of the same shocking gameplan. We may gain Luko, Richards and might play Finlayson as other leading/opportunistic forwards. But Mitch is likely to be our only leading tall next season. Ave 1.6 MOLs.

Do the people here remember Robbie's 2013 season? He showed signs of the player he was going to become after that horrid knee incident. His 2014 season was the stuff of fantasy, the type of football season his biggest fanatic might daydream about in the shower.

Mitchell Georgiades has just had Robbie's 2013 season, there is no doubt in my mind that after coming back from his ACL injury in 2023 he is about to take flight into the stratosphere. 44 goals as a 22 year old 193cm key forward, coming back from an injury that a decade ago was seen as a career ender.

I'm calling it here as a prediction that in 2025 PAFC is going to have its first 60 goal player since the great Warren Gary Tredrea.

A decade ago?

A decade ago was after Robbie Gray made a comeback from his knee injury.

"A decade ago" the AFL had already gone through the reduced injury recovery time, introduction of LARS, and they'd even dropped that love affair because of players reinjuring themselves.

Multiple players come back from ACLs every year now.

Tim Watson in the late 80s was probably the first player in the V/AFL to win a B&F after having a knee reco. Think he won 2 of them.

Chris MsDermott had a decent career after doing his ACL in an exhibition state game in Vancouver in October 1988. Had an AFL career won a B&F and pretty sure an all Oz after his knee reco.

ACLs dont end careers these days they just can stall them. If you have 3 or 4 then those multiple ones basically end careers.

Gonna go out on a limb and say he definitely won't be our first 60 goal player since Tredrea. Not because he couldn't kick 60 goals, but because Jay Schulz kicked 66 goals in 2014.

re-watched the semi final against the Hawks last night as there was nothing else on TV. Forgot how important Georgiades was for us that night. He is only going to get better.
His head smother vital!

He has zip and speed now. Hopefully he gets his leap timing back for MOY, Dixon can’t steal his marks now woohoo

Hopefully the swap of Dixon for Luko will give us a more dynamic forward line and we'll lower our eyes more entering 50. If we do, I think Georgiades could have a Schulz type year. Players are also usually better in year 2 coming off of an ACL, so hopefully he's even more explosive.

Very good interview from Mitch.

I think our new forward line will be the most interesting watch of the preseason.

It looks like Georgiades, Marshall, Lukosius, Rioli, Powell-Pepper, Richards, Berry, Byrne-Jones. The worst shot for goal out of those guys is Pep so looking quite good. Also looking fast and dangerous.

If those are the three talls, it would mean the interchange bench would need a 2nd ruck so a guy like Lord, Finlayson, Whitlock would get a go. You would think Finny would win out because of his versatility but who knows.

In the interview, Mitch said it is his first preseason without any hassles from injuries and given the time trial, he could be in for a huge year.

That will require our coaches to come up with a new game plan, and there’s nothing wrong with our game plan.. we roll with it each year regardless of results.

I’m not sure our coaching staff are capable of a new plan. much easier to get rata or lord to play the Dixon role and roll out the same crap again next year.
