Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

The article states that the clubs have agreed on a 'running' player...PLEASE let it be Morton! We can easily cover him!

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

I think it's known they are very good friends and respect each other.

Without Choco, Clarko probably wouldnt have a senior coaching job, and without Clarko, Port may have not won the premiership in 04.

But yeah, doing this trade would just be ridiculous for Hawthorn... unless they are really really really good friends... like very VERY VERY good friends... like gay.

Agree with your post, save and except that I have seen CHOCO on two occasions public disrespect Clarko and I would add this trade thing down as another occasion.

If they were such mates then why has CHOCO broadcast such diarrhea over the past few days about the trade?

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

H2F - you and I have had this discussion. We know you sit on the Nay, me I sit with the Yay side.

Wasn't Dew reported to have said Browny was not that popular with the players?

I didnt rate Brownys year this year. Too small to play key back when we needed one. There are better small forwards like Ozzie and Rioli.

Maybe the Hawks are doing Browny a favour? A change of club might help him settle into a permanent position.

We can afford to lose Browny and maybe both player and club will secure a win win.

Where did you hear that Rusty? Was it something said recently?

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

Except for Mitchell, Rioli and Sewell, I don't rate anybody's year.

Brownies always been too short to play key back and he suffered without his team of Guerra, Croad and Ladson around him. We did need a key back man all year and we come to expect Brownie, to step up to the plate and punch above his weight, time and time again.

I thought he played ok in the forward line, kept the ball in there plenty of times but didn’t put the goals on the board. Rioli needs to play up the mid field running forward kicking into the 50. Ozzie had a worse year than Brown IMO.[/QUOTE]

brown epitomises the things u want to see in players- particularly players with far more talent that what brown has. Brown is hard, courageous, single minded to a task... But at the end of the day he's not the most talented player on the list and whether you like to admit it or not- with the list we have, talent combined with hardness Brown would/will eventually struggle to get a game in the best 22. I love the guy- but detatch yourself emotionally for a sec- brown goes to a rebuilding team now- he'll play first 22 for his entire career. Personally- i am selfish and would rather he stay no matter what and have his prescence around the club- would be great for any player coming through. At the end of the day though- if this is true, I can see the logic behind it...

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

And how do you know his methodology? Assumption or know it for a fact?

Fact. Mal Brown and Brad Hardie are very close friends.... going back to his Sth Fremantle days when Mal Brown coached Hardie.

Brad Hardie is not going to pull a complete lie out of the air and broadcast it... when it is one of his best mates son's.... Hardie also knows Campbell like his own son having watched him grow up.

In fact even before Brad Hardie said it on air tonight.... he said he would check first to make sure it was ok to mention who it was on air...... then after the commercial break came back and said it was Campbell Brown and he wasn't happy.

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

I think there's a chance this rumour could have some truth to it  I hope it's Morton or Muston but I have my doubts. Browny fits the criteria and unfortunatley footy is a business and these decisions are often made without emotion. Fact is we'd be a better team with Burgoyne and that may be the decision.

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

From what I have heard C.B. has 1 yr left on his contract.

It is of course logical (maybe likely, maybe not - but logical) that he is considering where he will get the most game time and extend his playing career.

To even make the deal slightly realistic Port would have to be offering him a 3 yr deal on better wages than the Hawks are.

I'm not doubting that it could be true. I was just questioning your reasoning that's all.

You see, I work amongst the media and I see how stories get 'written' and 'broken' so I'm naturally suspicious when someone contends that a source is 95% right. Especially, with all due respect, Brad Hardie.

I do know about the Hardie/Brown history etc, and I have heard the Brown rumour talked about by the Melbourne media for a few weeks now, so it's not a surprise.

Tell me, did Browny get on air? and did Hardie say what Brown might do?

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

I feel physically ill over the thought of this. This is not a fair deal at all, it's paying way over the odds. Unless this happens to be a straight swap and we are keeping pick 9. Seriously, f*** no way.

I will not be getting a membership if this is true, you can't get rid of players like that, not ones who would kill themselves before betraying their footy club like Brown, we are really hanging out one of our own out to dry.

Burgoyne better be everything Clarkson hopes he is, because there is going to be a lot of pressure on him to perform now and i for one will be tying Burgoyne to a tree and stoning him if he fails us.

Shocked!!

Has there been mention that pick 9 is still being included? Maybe the Hawks have something up their sleeve? They could be combining two Hawks that were "discussed" and giving them both to Port. The rumour about Jolly could have some legs if pick 9 is being kept. Maybe that would explain why such a priceless player to us is being traded?

Or maybe im just in a state of shock and am thinking too much!!!

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

LOL those saying it's crap... obviously do not know Brad Hardie very well. He probably has a 95% success rate on his "rumours".... add to this that he is best mates with Mal Brown and knows Campbell Brown very very well.... then Hardie would not say this unless:

a. He got it from Campbell Brown himself.
b. He got it from Mal Brown himself.
c. He got it from someone at Port and then contacted Campbell who confirmed it and as he quoted "Was ropeable".

This isn't just a 'rumour'. You guys need to do your research. Brad Hardie is not going to backstab and make up lies about a good friend.... unless he knew it was true and he had Campbell Brown's blessing to make it public. Campbell Brown is mega pissed off.... I don't think he cares who knows and probably wants Hawthorn supporters to know what is going on.

thanks for your opinion. but a lot of us have heard hardie on the radio. its actually about 95% rubbish. you need to do your research about our club. brad hardie is in the media and will do what it takes to earn his paycheck. understand how the media works - they write and say anything to sell a story and get people attention with no factual information.

clarkson loves brown - no way would clarkson see over brown being traded. if we wouldnt release shoenmakers, we aint gonna release brown.

and brown wont agree to the trade, if it is him

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

If Browny and pick 9 are over the odds for Burgoyne..and yes they are...then pick 9 comes into play for a ruckman.... a Jolly good one at that.

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

Can anyone see Campbell Brown agreeing to go to Port IF this is all true, why would he leave Hawthorn and a premiership side for south australia and a list which won't win a flag in the next 4 years (you would think).

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

I have a mate who's dad is involved in managing some players, he was CONVINCED there was a threeway deal happening with Syd, Carlton and Hawthorn where eventually Jolly ended up at hawthorn. He didn't know what the outcome with Burgoyne was going to be though... Maybe we are swapping two players for Burgoyne and using pick 9 for Jolly...

I just don't know what to think....

All sorts of ways. Maybe he will be asked does he know the way to Box Hill?

Injuries aside your not in starting 22....

Tell him he is going to be banned for a few weeks for his outburst round 22.....

all sorts of ways you can convince a player...

Re: Pick 9 + Campbell Brown for Burgoyne??

A story about nothing, but it has been bugging me since I began reading about Brown.

I had a moggie cat. I rescued him from being drowned at 4 weeks old. I decided to name him Campbell Brown after the player. He is around six years old and I adore him. He lived with my parents as I couldnt take him with me when I moved out.

Two weeks ago, my dad gave him away to a friend. Didn't even bother to tell me. Suffice to say, it absolutely broke my heart as I loved him to bits.

Here's hoping it isn't a co-incidence. :(

im with you hawkfan. he is in our best 22 by far. there is no way we would trade one of our favourite sons for burgoyne, as good as he is.

he wont agree to the trade anyway. and the article said, port were disappointed in losing out on lovett, so its very possible that they have taken one of our fringe players, knowing they wont get a better offer that shaun will agree to.

Rusty have you got something on Brown that we don't know?
Frankly that seems like a pretty rubbish way to treat a premiership star.
