Pick your 3 for 2014

One at a time for me.

1. Everett.
For the plan, not the man.

Our Coach travelled the length of the country to meet this potential new recruit whilst on holiday. This was a deliberate ploy to draft a particular player for a specific position.
It is a great example of modern, targeted, needs based recruiting. Something we need to continue and improve on if we are to become a powerhouse again.

This was only one part of the plan, the next stage includes Andrew Walker.
Everett and Walker will be crucial to our team structure, essentially trying to be the reverse of the other.
One will be a forward-mid whilst the other is a defender.
Regular changes depending on circumstances will upset opposition structures.

We found accountability in 2013.
2014 will be about flexibilty and run.

Great thread.

I've based my three on where I expect the improvement to come from compared to 2013:

1. Gibbs - about to turn 25 and capable of entering a very very purple patch in his career.
2. Thomas - assuming ankle holds, will add class and cumulatively improve the midfield.
3. Bell - will benefit from improved midfield class around him and will contribute his brute strength and speed.

(Although I'm secretly hoping for Watson and Lucas to make the leap).

I would have to go for the following:

Gibbs: after he finished off the year showing us what he is capable of, we are now expecting him to perform to that level consistently. If he is played full time in the midfield like he should have been, then he should be up to that standard on a regular basis... and if he can do that, and a couple of others step up... we should be on track for #17.

Lucas: He showed that he can play the game at the AFL level. He has nothing left to learn at the lower levels and he just need the experience at the higher level to solidify into the player we all want him to be. He doesnt need to be a hard nugget in and under player, but he needs to stop over thinking things and slow down a fraction to pick the best option consistently instead of the first option. This will lift him from being a B grade player to an A grade player.

Casboult: He gets his kicking sorted out... he will be a 50-60 goal power forward for us. Is as good a contested mark as Cloke is and is a lot more versatile than that drop kick. Let him off the leash at CHF and give him a licence to roam and he will play havoc with opposition match ups. Is quick enough as well to be able to run back to our forward line on the break.

I dont think that just singling out 3 players is a good option... because if all our boys step up to the plate, then they will be putting the club into the top 4... with a good shot at the premiership.

I'm looking for the old guys to provide the impetus and lift the younger guys.

Waite: To play every game and kick 60 goals.

Carrazzo: To cut the opposition guns out of the game and get plenty of the ball as well.

Scotland: To be as courageous and consistent as always and remind the boys that players of his standard need a flag in the resume.

This is a terrible top 3. anyway cheers to you brother

Okay, here are my three big improvers:

1. Warnock will become the widely regarded pre-eminent ruckman in the league - will play most games and will have a consistently good season with the highest number of hit-outs to advantage; he will also significantly contribute to the scoreboard with c.25 goals for the year.

2. Tuohy will be in contention for AA as a backman.

3. Menzel will kick c.35 goals from the HFF.

Honourable mentions to Bell and Graham, but they won't get the same amount of game time through the course of the year as the above three to quite make the same overall impact/improvement.

B&F:

1. Murphy
2. Gibbs
3. Henderson

Menzel: See so much potential with this bloke, as everyone does. His decision making so far has been terrific, highlighted by that handball to armfield in the bombers game, that quick instinctive decision is just all class, big things ahead.

Everitt: What im most excited about this guy is, if he can make an impact in our best 22 he opens up so much options for us, if he can cement himself off half back we can release walker up forward, similarly if he is playing well forward we can keep Walkers run off half back, this addition could potentially improve this team and other players so much which is why i'll be watching Everitts play very closely this season.

Bell: I am hoping all this preseason hype results in improved and consistent play by Belly, absolute unit, puts fear in the opposition no doubt. The next step for him is becoming a more consistent ball winner, better decision maker and disposer of the footy. Got to remember though this guy has only played 16 games of AFL footy I believe with more regular game time these deficiencies can definetly improve and Bell can stamp himself in the best 22 (hopefully)

It's more fun this way . No doubt that gbatman was put through a lot of pain by keeping it to just three players though.

Graham - I think if he can develop a bit of acceleration he can be a quality player. Pretty sure we weren't really looking at him in the draft but when he was still there at 54 we had no choice but to jump at him. Really like what I've seen from him so far, hope he plays 16+ games.

Menzel- we all love him, I feel that it's just a matter of time until he steps up and start to make a big impact.

Watson/Levi - really hoping 1 or both of these guys can stand up

1. Menzel - to play the bulk of the season, bring calls for 'why wasnt this kid drafted earlier, and is this the next Chris Judd/Joel Selwood draft 'stuff up'.

2. Bell - sort out his on field awareness and only get pinged holding the ball every second game.

3. Casboult - tower in the fwd 50, not the best set shot but beasts players in marking contests. Average 10 marks a game.

1. Yarran. Could be a star. If he can produce to the heights we've already seen consistently, we're a whole different team. If he can exceed them, look out!

2. Waite. An uninjured Waite for a whole season makes my mouth water.

3. Gibbs. The Hawks and Tigers games sets the standard for this lad. Would be like having whole new player on the team if he can pull this off more often than not.

Beat me to it. If Yarran finds some consistency he will be our best player.

2. Lucas. Plenty of talent and speed. Now he just needs a bit of c*nt about him. And hold a tackle ffs.

3. Warnock. Hampson has gone and we need him up and about. Can take the pressure off Kreuzer.

These 3 firing will go a long way to us having a great year. We know what we're going to get with Murph, Gibbs and co. Now I want to see if these next few can live up to their potential.

1. Lucas - Needs add some hardness to his game. Has speed, talent, a little x-factor, just needs that extra bit of mongrel to stepup to that next level

2. Casboult- Lump of a lad. Great hands. Improved his base fitness over the summer months. If he can improve his kicking for goals we'll have that power forward we've been crying out for since the departure of Fev.

3. Yarran - All the talent in the world just needs to produce consistently.

For mine...

Gibbs - The player i want more than any other to grab 2014 by the juggler and rip it to shreds... All eyes will be on bryce this year with his contract as well... a big big pressure season for the young man. make it yours son!!

Everitt - Picked for a purpose, could be the piece of the henderson puzzle we were looking for, great height and athletic ability, would compliment Watson at CHB and provide ample help while keep us fairly tall as well, thus releasing Hendo forward... Everitt is the player im most curious about for the start of 2014.

Garlett - F50, enter the jeffy garlett show.... the stage is all his, free to roam and crumb wherever he likes id love to see another 40-50 goal year from my early prediction as AA fwd pocket.

Three to watch for in 2014:
1. Murphy
2. Thomas
3. Graham

In terms of the first year prospects:
1. Cripps
2. Reynolds

Ghiberti fan?

Your avatar intrigues me...:thumbsu:

gibbs. in the middle and will dominate
watson. need him at centre half back
carrazzo. missed him more than people think last year

Will be best 22 if he nails the defensive midfield/forward role he played against Norf who are supposed to be a tough team. Underrated hands after he beat at least four opponents one out and in the air. Has some X factor after he outmarked McKenzie and played quickly on like Yarran to hit on the Garlett chest. Showed courage to go back with the flight and create a contest for Garlett to kick his fourth. Similar to the effort he gloved against Collingwood. Stick him on the wing and have him run forward to best utilise his speed, endurance and marking. Barely scratched the surface with Lucas playing just 39 games due to injury.

Yeah, Lucas has shown what he can do a number of times and really is a silky runner. Lucas and Yarran (and Gibbs) ideally need that fire in the belly to take them to the next level - they need that Greg Williams "I'm an Energizer bunny and I'm going to get BOG today" approach! Maybe hypnosis is the go...:D

1. Chris Judd -- going to be fascinating watching him come back from this minor setback and be fresher (game wise) in the second half of the season than he has been for a while. Hopefully they limit his game time for a while and ensure come September he's ready to fire on all cylinders. This injury could put us into contention rather than take us away from it. The reliance on Judd is no more - now he can be the weapon.

2. Tom Bell -- really looking forward to him becoming the gun player the more he develops. Never underestimate the influence on a season that players of his type can have.

3. Troy Menzel -- for all of the reasons that people have already stated.
