Opinion Player list management and game plan 2019 part 2

This may not be a popular thought, but looking at what we did this year with players:

1. We do not have a salary cap problem, far from it.

2. We seem to have a money problem. We probably are running a low salary cap because we do not have the money to run at full cap.

Afl pay the players salaries... I think?

Surely this is the case? They have 2.5bil over 5 years to play with from the TV networks.

Would be like 1.1bil going towards all 18 clubs over a 5 year period if true.

Nah Ireckon we are after a big fish next year.

Getting back to the game plan for next year .
I reckon we need more run from half back , I think one of the reasons we lacked that last season was because 1 . Defenders going the punch first and foremost rather than mark and having no designated intercept marker unless Westhoff was down there .
and 2 I reckon we pushed back too far as a unit , clogged up the space for getting run happening and not enough players forward of the ball to kick to . A high possession small like Laird in defence would be a godsend too
Hopefully Howard takes another step up , he would be the ideal one for the intercept role if he's up to it , otherwise Burton perhaps .

I'd bring Motlop a bit closer to the action as an outside mid , we really need one more like that as well , not sure Rozee would be ready but needs to be someone with pace and skill .
There's a spot up for grabs as a small forward now with Wingard out and and Robbie likely to be needed a bit more in the midfield . Butters , Woodcock , Farell , Johnson , Rozee there's a job available for the best one or two .
Patmore should have his eyes on a wing if he's up to it bows the time to make a charge because we'll probably play a tall wing with Westhoff or Watts so we'll need a slicker one on the other side .
The tall forwards will be a work in progress for a little while because Dixon , Marshall and Ryder/Lycett pick themselves and any more might be too many . I'd like to have another look at Frampton up there at some stage .
Mayes could be a chance , haven't seen enough of him but forward

Was down at the club this morning to pay membership and noticed they were training so had abit of a look.
Couple of quick observations wines is a beast , Frampton needs to mark in the hands not on the chest, if watts played like he trained would be a gun, bonner looking bigger, hartlett trained away from main group but no strapping on the knee and looked good, lycett moves well for such a big man.
They were having a kind off scatch match were at the end boaky had a set shot from 40 to win for his team and yep he hit the post lol.

'14 Prelim was on TV last night. Couldn't 'not' watch the last 20 mins.

Urgency and daring and commitment were all on show, with Boaky and Ollie able to hit targets by hand and foot regularly.

Sad that a loss is such a high point.....used to be only a premiership would get a re-watch, or at least a winning showdown.
Clearly starved of true inspiration.
I struggle to watch that game to be honest. The urgency and daring footy was there when the game looked like it was slipping away, we fought back from 5 goals down with half a quarter to go only to get within a goal with still plenty of time left on the clock and then the scoring dried up. How many losses have we had like that since. A lot of the problems we've had in finishing close games and playing our best footy when we are coming from a long way back only to shit our dacks again when it gets close first surfaced in 2014.

In order for defenders to run they need space in front of them. We had a wall of players there. At times our midfield looked like a scene from world war z.

But I read on the Crows board that our list is about to fall off a cliff and that they are primed for long term success???

I stopped reading at McAdam when they insisted he was first round value.

This guy in the comments has a more relevant breakdown:

This list is each teams average of the 22 player’s age who ran out each week from last year.

Hawthorn————————–25.70
Adelaide—————————-25.41
Port Adelaide———————-25.37
West Coast————————25.24
North Melbourne—————–25.15
Essendon—————————24.97
Sydney——————————24.94
Richmond————————–24.91
Geelong—————————-24.84
Greater Western Sydney——–24.84
Melbourne————————-24.45
Collingwood———————–24.41
Carlton——————————24.10
St Kilda——————————23.95
Fremantle—————————23.93
Brisbane—————————–23.80
Gold Coast————————–23.41
Western Bulldogs——————22.93

Having the 5th youngest overall list but 3rd oldest best 22 shows our terrible spread of age with the gaping hole in the mid-age bracket. We have close to the archetype re-build list profile.

Who isn't the next McLeod probably an easier question for them to answer.

The AFL pays the salary cap. And does so for all clubs.

Hopefully Watts has pulled his finger out. He came back early to training along with the young group. Could be part of the club imposed punishment. Hopefully this is the wakeup call he needed.

Hello Janus. I thought that the AFL distributes funds to the clubs. The minimum payment to the richer clubs is meant to cover player payments. It does not mean they have to spend it on the players. Port Adelaide gets above the minimum.
