Players To Trade For

Shut up "mate", i know what i'm talking about. There has been almost no speculation that Foley will become a free agent. No rumours about him leaving as a free agent, nothing. So i'm fairly sure he will sign a contract. And if he does, trade week is after free agency finishes. Why would we let him walk if we could get something for him, which we most certainly could unless he is offered a ridiculous contract (which he won't because of his injury status)? Makes no sense does it?

But cheers for spelling it out for me anyway, really appreciate it.

Settle down champ,I think most me included believe with Foley available under free agency that if he was to leave it would be as a free agent and we would be compensated at the discretion of the AFL, Adrian Anderson, so we'll get the arse end of the stick .
It really is unlikely that the club would sign Foley and then trade him.
Whilst Axle himself if currently fielding offers and he makes the decision to get out, he is unlikely to sign a new contract on the presumption that a trade will be made when he can simply walk, without any risk of us preventing him, unless we match the offer.
Lets be honest the only likely reason he would look elsewhere is greater money than we offer , not greater opportunity.

Whilst Foley is a Free Agent he can agree to terms with another club, we can match that offer. If he doesn't want to stay with us then we can trade him.

eg. Essendon offer him 500k per year for 3 years we agree to match it but he's hell bent on leaving then they'd have to trade for him or push him to the draft and hope he lasts.

IMO the only reason he'd leave is if we offered him unders so if we are willing to match then he'd stay.

He just cant break into a pretty settled side , his versatility s the key, equally at home as a chf or chb , has hands like a steel trap...and plenty of courage in the contest. I have a feeling he will want to split, with a few likely suitors , a second rounder should get it done

Wow you really don't rate the value of picks beyond the first round do you? First Nahas is too good for a second rounder, now Post should fetch us a second rounder no problems. Funny stuff. o_O

I wouldn't mind Luke Delaney from the roos peoples thoughts ??.Finds it hard to get a game as roos big man defence as alot of depth.Big bodied defender wouldn't cost much to.

Yes it is a possibility that we will up our ante to match another clubs offer , however if that happens he' won't be going anywhere , cash would be the only driver in him going else where and if we match the dough he'll stay .
So talk of trading him really is a mute point .

If Post goes anywhere expect it to be to the Dogs where we'll get a 3rd round pick i.e. 46 or 47 which the Dogs currently have. That would give us 5 picks inside 50, 6 if Nahas goes as well. If we do trade for someone like PB74 suggests then we would still have 5.

I have a feeling PB74's player in question is Matt Thomas...
Yep and wouldnt be unhappy with that. Tough in the mould of Morris. Seems to have fallen out of favour with the coaches at port of late and reckon a change of scenery would do him the world of good

Ax isnt fielding offers he is staying

Can't see why, he would want to leave considering all the effort the club has put into him but would like to think Adrian would give us far compensation for him

I'm kind of ketting sick of trading with Port Adelaide , Seems that just about every year some Port Adelaide DUD is coming over to Richmond.

Is that the only team we are capable of trading with ?

THINK you'll find that Port Adelaide are not the only club we are capable of trading with, but ONE OF THE FEW teams which enters trade negotiations sensibly and with a view to getting a reasonable deal done.
Sydney is another, ditto for Carlton, Sydney, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Brisbane and some others.
The likes of Collingwood and Essendon either offer up or propose entirely unacceptable deals and are avoided by most because of it. Not lost on us that the Bombers could easily have traded Houli to us for a third round pick, it went home empty handed and we got our guy. In contrast, we gave up a handy type in Collins (who we likely didn't particularly won't to give up) to grab a player who filled a stronger need in Grigg.
The Tigers gave up Mitch Morton for a pick in the 70s or 80s to Sydney to re-start a players career and strengthen relations at the tading table at a late date.
Essendon and Collingwood want players and offer up extremely poor deals.
And then there are clubs like Geelong, which simply shun trading players in and out altogether. I'm sure their current list of players doesn't contain anyone from another AFL club!

Brisbane stink at the trade table.

I would like to see us have a better trading relationship with west coast as i can see alot of melbourne kids of quality on their list that may want to come back home 1 day.

Also lets start getting to know GC & GWS at the trading table

What is the point of the original poster suggesting we are going for a mid in between 22-27 from interstate and then not naming him. If your not going to give us a name then don't bother posting.

Also have to laugh at the suggestion naming a player on BF could ruin the trade or get the club into trouble. How many trades are thrown around each day on this site...

Definitely get around the GC talent, I reckon they will be keen to package a couple of players for one draft pick.

My wish list;
Nahas + (and Graham if they want, which they probably wouldn't) to GWS for 2nd rounder
Post to dogs for 3rd rounder

Our 2nd rounder to GC for Nicholls + Weller (would also like Caddy and maybe Toy but they would be harder to get IMO)
Our compensation pick and 3rd round to WC for Stevens + Brown + their 3rd round pick

Free agency; Cloke (fairly unlikely because of the obvious money issue, but IMO is what we need), Chaplin and possibly a Russell or Knights

That leaves us with first rounder (Gartlett), GWS 2nd rounder (would love it if Stringer was to slide), Dogs + WC 3rd rounders (best mids) + 4th rounder (Yarran or Taylor if he was still there)

OUTS; Nahas, Post, Derixx, Connors, Moore, Mcdonald, Connors, Browne (rookie him would be good), Webbers, Graham, Miller + McGuane

INS; Cloke, Chaplin, Brown, Weller, Nicholls, Stevens, Russell/Knights + 5 draft picks.

Obviously we probably can't afford all that, and I'm being bias in assesment of our players vs other players. Also its probably to many changes (12). But it would add great depth in young mids (Stevens + Weller), and some kp depth, as well as a developing ruckman. Also a great CHF, but we all know the story there. As well as a good draft year. I think thats the level of depth we need to add in to be serious finals contenders.
Thoughts?

Amcre, this is not speculation, and if you believe what you've posted then you really have no idea on how the media works and how quickly things can blow up.

If you don't want any information, then I won't post it... some already are in the know on this player and also have not mentioned anything... some of us truly know what's going on. I can just spin BS if you want instead like it seems most on here do in this thread... OK, so the player in question is Boak... no it's Rockliff... no it's Kennedy... sheesh!

Now that I've settled down a bit... the problem I have is that I know the player in question... I can't post the name. Others may in good time, someone may already have for all I know

Well if it is Matt Thomas can you name him so the trade doesn't go through? thanks
What's wrong with Matt Thomas?
I'd love to have him and the exact sort of player Dimma would go for.

Haha... well if it is, I won't be telling... remember before we judge players that we not fully aware of, remember last season the uproar from posters about big Ivan saying he was no better than Gus or Browne.
