Reverse tariffs are subsidies payed for by the tax payer. Why do you want to make tax payers pay for people to drive stupid american truck cars?
Yep, starting to believe it's just a sales tax dressed up as trade wars.

The corporations will lose share prices because of the tariffs, so Trump will cut the corporate tax rate to "Help businesses", meanwhile the ordinary taxpayer is paying an extra $1,000 per year in tax, but they don't see it as a direct tax because it happened earlier in the economic chain.

Yep. He is going to try to prevent a tariff induced financial crash/stagflation event by big employing tax cuts. If he goes as hard on tariffs as he looks like doing i think he will fail

I think China are now the good guys. The fall of the US has been rapid.
One side going bad doesnt make the other side good. China is providing financial support to russsias invasion on ukraine. China restricts the freedom of its people, grades them on social behaviour and is a dictatorship ruling with an iron fist. It still kidnaps people in the middle of the night who say the wrong thing. It is still implementing a genocide in the north. And while we dont know with 100 percent certainty occams razor suggests that the covid disaster which killed millions and shut down society was mostly Chinas fault. Insufficient enforcement of regulation regarding killer viruses and a bureaucratic cover up that failed to stop the virus spreading.

Usa is going bad but its still nowhere near as bad as china.

I never thought I’d say this but , give it time.

Look at how many wars USA have started, compare that to how many China have started.

The USA escalate conflicts, but don't start a lot of them fresh.

The main problem is the choice of which conflict to escalate. That, in turn, reveals the true strategy.

For example, Escalating in the Congo/Rwanda would save more lives than escalating in Palestine. But they chose to escalate in Palestine, mostly for political rather than humanitarian reasons. But they then say it's for humanitarian reasons and it sounds like a big ol' lie.

They demonise Iran because they're theocratic despots, but side and arm Saudi who are theocratic despots. They invaded Iraq because the leader gassed his people, but didn't invade Syria for gassing their people because there wasn't enough oil. (Though they do have troops defending the oil-regions of Syria). They say it's for democracy and freedom, but their choice of where to intervene reveals different, far less defensible, reasons.

The USA aren't as bad as China, but China doesn't lie about it. They openly say they want Taiwan. The USA treats Cuba worse than China treats Taiwan and Cuba was never actually part of the USA.

Looking purely at economics this Trump term will be fascinating for testing well held opinions on economic levers.
Tariff countries to create trade balances, never been done before by a country as power as the US.

yes it has.

see 1930's

See USSR.

It has never worked in the past and it will be disastrous right now, in this hugely connected world. Every single part of a car is produced somewhere else in the world.

Panama has scaled back its investment from China.....Trump still threatens that he will invade and annex the Canal. The guy should be treated as a dictator he is.

Wall St is going to be fun on Monday....

Trump saying 'oh we had BIGLY tariffs in the 1800s' before air travel was invented let alone global manufacturing.

Maybe the US can be a hermit economy like North Korea and manufacture everything themselves.

So it's not going to matter so much if there is no work force available to harvest citrus fruit in central California this year (because they've been deported or scared away) since there won't be any water to irrigate the crops in the first place.

But at least the fires are out (or under control) in LA (for unrelated reasons).
