5AA breakfast show this morning - they were clearly trying to lift the spirits of Crows fans. I can't remember if Dumb or Dumber said it, but he says to Tom Rehn, "The story of the weekend will be Adelaide knocking off Geelong, and the newspaper headline will be 'CROWS KNOCK OFF DAD'S ARMY.'" I admire their optimism....
I heard that and almost choked on my breakfast 🤣🤣🤣

What a bizarre rule to bring in day prior to season.

I get concussion sub, but a broad medical sub who, if removed, can still play following week will, 100% be exploited.

I think it helps good teams though. Sometimes, you go a man down early against a sh*te side and it can help them compete for longer.

It’s a brilliant idea.
Lycett and Ladhams can take turns in " hamstring tightness" at 3/4 time.

I would, they will be utter garbage, with off field drama piled on top. 2021 is shaping up as a very good year!
Well I hope you're right - I'd love to see Owen remain at West Lakes until at least June.

I don't like this. Without wishing injury upon someone, you usually breathe a bit of a sigh of relief when an opposition player goes down, because it means the other team will fatigue sooner than ours. Now it'll be "ah now we're ****ed" when a fresh pair of legs comes on and tears it up.

May as well have the rest of the list sitting on the bench with the ability to use anyone, any time, but just stick to the rotation limits.

"This might actually end up being closer to the mark than you think...." - Macca19 probably.

Macca's opposite tips are like a footballer's special undies they wear because they had a good game once while wearing them.

my first thought was Geelong using “Hamstring awareness” or naming a clearly injured player with a ready made replacement as the sub.

the wording of this rule is so open to being gamed.

should have just been concussion proven by an independent doctor.

Which is difficult as a senior footballer when your last good game was in under 10's.

Good news for Burton, we can play him with minimal worries now.

lol why the fu** is there no restriction on the following game? jesus christ.
This will actually result in injured players being played more.

Coach sends a message out that your off, we need to bring in the sub

Player limps to the bench

Doctor, independent or otherwise, asks the player what's wrong

Player says I felt a twinge in my hammy

Doctor signs off on injury

Sub comes on and tears it up

System gamed

What a joke
Without being able to do a scan at the game there is no way any doctor is going to rule out a strain or "signalling" against a player's word. Even with a scan it may be inconclusive and the doctor must therefore take the players word.

This rule is very open to scamming but that is not something that would concern the AFL. Wait for an "interstate" club to be fined for appearing to scam the rule.
