Former AFL player Joel Macdonald has been ordered to pay $1 million and will be disqualified from managing corporations for 12 years, as the Federal Court handed logistics provider GetSwift the largest-ever penalty for breaching continuous disclosure laws. Macdonald, a former Melbourne Demons player, was previously director of the last-mile logistics company, which became a market darling during Australia’s golden era for tech stocks. On Friday, the Federal Court ordered GetSwift, a software company, to pay a record penalty of $15 million, for failing to meet its disclosure obligations. It comes after the court found in November 2021 that the logistics provider made misleading statements to the ASX and breached its disclosure obligations 22 times between February and December 2017.

IPO 20c. 1 year later $3.70. 1 year later 18c. Now delisted and shareholders are getting 1c for every dollar invested.

To be honest, people who invest in these types of companies get what they deserve. Yes there are some great innovators out there doing it for the right reasons but mostly it's people like this just trying to make a quick buck for themselves and their mates. Cowboy stuff.

I'm not naive enough to believe that the vast majority of AFL players aren't using various substances regularly but the sheer stupidity of getting caught is amazing.
Yep.

Consistency in approach in penalties is all we can and should expect when it comes to a player getting caught out and making an admission. 2 weeks for a first time seems about right to me.

Also this week - Wayne Carey has quietly dropped his legal action against Crown Perth in relation to his eviction from the casino in September 2022 after dropping an unverified white powder which (at least for the moment) ended his media career.

No idea why this is labelled shocking. You must be pretty sheltered to not realise just about every bloke on afl list does cocaine.

They are all basically cashed up bogans or misbehaving 'elite' private school toffs, which already have their own drug culture well before they even hit the AFL ranks.
