Light slap at Port from AFL360 last night. Referenced our 0-5 start last year and said we looked ragged in the pre-season. Whateley/Robbo hoped we were more capable than we looked come R1.
We had about 30sec of the show, which I'm not complaining about as the only reason they'd have gone longer is to deliver a heavy slap.
If we get pumped by Brisbane I fully expect Robbo will whack us fully.

To be fair everyone who did wrong by him at the club would be long gone

Except their delightful fanbase.

I was at the Port v Essendon game the first time he played them and their conduct was beyond belief.

Na, I'm all for progression. Crazy to not utilise that Thebarton facility, IMO The Crows facility should be built there.

As long as they aren't taking over the parklands, and/or they aren't placed in the Adelaide Oval precinct then I'm happy.

It seems like an improvement on the area to me.
Those who live there should absolutely get a strong say.

My only issue would be the Crows getting local and state funding way outside what’s reasonable to build it.

The local government should definitely not have to pay and should have a large financial benefit from them.

And any angry ants wanting to arc up because it's the Crows might want to remember we had our own problems with residents when Port took a small bite of council-owned land during the current upgrades.

And so it begins *sorry - recommences:

How is this a "gotcha" from Abrahams?

Crows are also getting money from State Gov and Feds. (from memory it's roughly equivalent)

The issue is that they now want more money.

Fair enough - but imho comparing what happened and is happening at Alberton and what is going to happen at Thebarton isn't that helpful mainly because there are already huge traffic flow issues for in that location that already gets a lot of peak hour through traffic and traffic to the shopping centre.

That road that runs west off South Road between the Brickworks shopping centre and Kings Park is a friggin nightmare at peak hour with traffic banked up hundreds of metres at the lights and can only imagine what it will be like when the redevelopment gets going and the crows move in.

The South Road redevelopment will likely fix that now that it has been amended but my understanding is that won't be finished for well over a decade or more.

(PS I appreciate the Thebarton resident group's issues aren't just traffic related).

Yep that was my recollection too. With high level former Labor AND Liberal representation on the Crows' Executive you can be damned sure they aren't going to get one cent less from federal, state and local government coffers than Port get - for anything.

One of the comments to his post got me smiling...

Hello. Does anyone know if the following funding commitments made to the SANFL for Thebarton developments (prior the AFC involvement) where spent?

March 31, 2019 - SANFL Welcomes $6m Funding for Thebarton Oval Redevelopment

SANFL has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of a $6 million contribution towards SANFL’s proposed redevelopment of Thebarton Oval.

“SANFL also will commit funds of up to $6 million for this significant project, with the AFL confirming it will contribute at least $250,000 in a sign of the strategic importance of Thebarton Oval in meeting the needs of football in South Australia,” Mr Parkinson said.

November 15, 2020 - SANFL welcomes $5M funding boost to transform Thebarton Oval
SANFL has today welcomed the State Government’s announcement of a $5 million funding contribution to a Thebarton Oval redevelopment to create South Australia’s second home of football.

A total of $17.25m from Federal Gov, SANFL, AFL and SA Gov. This development was to support SANFL Talent and Umpires, Adelaide Footy League and significant community and sporting events. The SANFL CEO said Thebarton was chosen due partly for "football’s year-round access to the venue."

If these funds have not been used in any developments, will they still be used for their intended purpose? Will they still go towards the intended parties or are the funds now being provided to the AFC (on top of their own Federal, State and AFL funding commitments)?
