Sydney is a ginourmous city in Aussie terms and they cant get a crowd to a second team lol. The interest just isnt there and the product the AFL peddle right now is garbage

They have 25k members now, but you are right about the “theatre” aspect. If Swans spend multiple seasons out of the 8, watch their membership numbers drop.

Also, Homebush is horrible to get to, the NRL out there does not get crowds either. I live about a 5min walk from the train line that Homebush is on but I don’t go as there are no direct trains. I prefer to travel to the SCG as it’s easier and cheaper to get to.

Did they get their branding wrong?

They were obviously targeting the West-to-Canberra to catchment, but maybe just ‘Sydney Giants’ was the go?

Edit: sky blue and navy probably captures the imagination a little better than charcoal and ochre, too

They like footy in Canberra it's a bit of a neglected market.
