I hope Alex Keath' wins our b&f. Still hasn't been beaten in 2 years as a Dog.

Our season died in the last 15 seconds against Essendon. Forward structure is gone and we can't replace Bruce. He's out for a big chunk of next year also so that's hardly inspiring.

We looked like going unbeaten and finishing top going in against Dons. Can't say too many saw this coming. Flushing away a golden opportunity against a top four teams we have matched it against all season is what burns. Not like other years where we couldn't get over one or two.

I'm disappointed there isn't faith in Crozier and Wallis to work their way out of a slump by actually playing as there is for hannan. He was ok tonight and probably played his best game but has he really been best 22 all year. Reeks of favouritism and has been this way for a long time.

We recruited a ruck to fix our obvious issues. I guess we didn't know how limited he would be. May as well have played Stef last night too run some form into him for next week. Could not have gone worse than this. Not sure what we do about this problem next year.

We are done this season.

If the mids are available are absolutely gassed our only hope of winning next week is to go full GWS of 2019 and just attack the man. However as others have said we are just too placid to do so.

Bailey Williams has even lost his mojo.... its infectious....

Collingwood have the colliwobbles, we have dogititis...

Bevo must have been heavily involved in the decision to recruit Hannan, because it’s blindingly obvious he’s not justified a best 22 slot all year. Wallis, Lipinski, West and others have their flaws but it’s ludicrous that they can’t get a run and Hannan can.

Also, we should have known how limited Martin could be. I think many of us liked the pickup but it was easily foreseeable that he’d be affected by injury. To have him go down and then refuse to play your backup ruck all year, then I nsist on playing a borderline incompetent ruck solo for most of the second half of the season will go down as one of the stupidest selection decisions in years.

Just watched parts of the game again and the amount of times our so called good players miss targets is incredible. McRae and Hunter get heaps of it but boy they can butcher it at times. I know most players can but hunter especially very rarely kicks to anyones advantage.

The other noticeable fact was in the first quarter we made a greater effort to hit the 45 degree kick and move it through he corridor to open up the forward lines. We only started to get ourselves in trouble when we over used the ball and hand passed to someone under direct pressure. The next three quarters all we did were chip kicks around the boundary and finished of with a. big bomb forward. If we don't run through the corridor we are are stuffed.

Next week, play on at all costs and try and get some run and line breaking happening

For anyone feeling masochistic ...

Knowing our luck WC will keep the margin tight but Sydney will win by 40 goals and overtake us. (I don’t know if that’s even possible but being hyperbolic to make the point….)

But it won’t matter. My guess is the margin will be 7-8 goals by half time as the lions show what a proper top four team does with their season on the line.

Gutted.

I don’t think this is our season. We just haven’t had much luck on the injury front. We are getting killed in the midfield and our forward line is far from functioning at a high level required to win finals.

Martin: The 34 yo ruck we recruited has broken down and we have no faith in his body. It looked like an inspired move early in the season, but it hasn’t worked out.

Bruce: The forward we recruited was playing career best form and third in the Coleman is now out for a year.

Dunkley and Treloar: They have missed half a season and have not returned to their usual high standards. Bont, Libba and Macrae look tired for carrying the load all season.

Number one priority should be to recruit a decent mature ruckman in the off season. We have the midfield to win a premiership in the next 2-3 seasons and we need decent ruck support for this period.

This is probably controversial, but I’m happy not chasing Darcy and using our picks to find a decent mature ruckman now. Darcy can’t help us win a flag in the next 2-3 seasons. We need to focus on the short term future. Darcy is a 5 year long term project and we shouldn’t let that get in the way of recruiting for a premiership now

This may be controversial as well, but Wood should retire. He is finished in my view both from a form perspective and body durability. Let’s use the cap space on a ruckman. If we can nurse Crozier back to form then he is a direct replacement.

Delist Hannan and Cavarra. Trade Wallis.

I’m not against keeping Schache on the rookie list if we want to persist another 12 months in defence. But minimal money should be spent to retain him.

JUH needs a big off season on the track and in the gym. We then play him third forward behind Naughton and English next season and re-assess if Bruce returns.

The end of the season has been so disappointing, but we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. We still have a very good coach and list but we need improvements in key areas to be a contender next year.

I did this last night close to the final siren - which is obviously stupid and an embarrassing, enormous overreaction. I do think at least some of it is the pressures of the current environment, lockdowns etc as I’ve never done anything like that before, but that’s still no excuse.

But I also think it’s the despair of having seemed like we’re one of a few teams capable of winning the flag then be ripped away in three deflating weeks. If we’re honest the signs had been there and we knew our team selection, coaching and over reliance on a few key players would come back to bite us, but we still had hope.

It’s the hope that kills you.

Hope is such a powerful thing. When it’s gone, it’s a dark world. We still have hope, albeit slight, that we can make a stand. Feels like the ultimate tease of a season. Almost cruel. Don’t beat yourself up about the hole in the wall. You recognise that it wasn’t the best thing to do and that’s a positive. I usually punch the couch! I don’t have any idea how bad lockdowns have been for you guys in Melbourne but having been in one now here in Canberra for a week, I was dreading what a loss would mean for today being stuck at home. It definitely compounds the disappointment of what the team is serving up when everything else feels hopeless. The alarming thing for me is the change in Bevo. No longer seems like the steady hand on the tiller. He gets super defensive over the most innocent and valid questions in press conferences, almost like he feels personally under siege. I used to despair about what a future without him might look like but I do wonder whether this thing has now run it’s natural course.

OK, hope everyone has got the pissing and moaning out of their system.

Time to look at a few positives.

We're in the finals.

We played a lot better last night than last week with a few players working their way back into form.

Strange things can happen in last round games, so let's barrack for the Eagles to cause a big upset.

Even if they don't. We still have a game next week and if we play like we did last night we should give a decent account of ourselves.

For all that we expect of our team, perhaps we need to show a bit of optimism and fortitude as supporters.

Go Dogs!

Yeah nah. Sydney basically got Hickey for free and he's been in the top 6 rucks this season.

What makes my blood boil is that there are rucks out there that don't cost the bank. I'm not even kidding but even Tom Campbell would have been handy to have in the past 3-4 weeks. And we could easily find a better one for minimal cost.

Also what rucks would be available that would even be worth considering not chasing Darcy. Basically none.

Bevo mentioning the players and support staff struggling with the Covid situation in his video to members…. It was an absolute certainty he’d bring that up.

That’s my big issue with him for the last month, he has clearly been letting outside issues into the club and into the group, where it is his job to keep the focus on football, keep the energy levels of the group up and keep the group focused on what can be achieved. Not to be woe us

Every AFL club is so he is just deflecting his shortcomings as a coach. GWS had no soul or heart for years. They have been hit hardest by injuries and Covid but Cameron has installed self belief and mental toughness in the group. He has coached amazingly this year and is leap and shoulders better than Bevo now. Did not rate Leon until this year but would have him replace Bevo in a heartbeat now.

Really stupid by Bevo blaming Covid. No wonder the players have given up and now they have an excuse. Brilliant coaching Bevo, you have now even more convinced me you are not the coach to lead us.
