Little bit of gossip, an AFL side contacted an ex crow, just seeing how he is going and telling him they are keeping an eye on him.

Mathew Smith?:D

On another note the Crows have sent letters of interest to North Adelaide boys Shane Edwards and Michael Wundke.

If the player is still in the SANFL then it must be Kreuger. Mind you, I dont think hes played much this year either.

Ladhams maybe?

Gavin Hughes on the weekend:

14 kicks, 5 marks, 6 handballs, 4 goals, 2 behinds.

:thumbsu:

Oh and Bryce Campbell had 22 possessions, 8 marks and 8 tackles and was named BOG. Gun. :thumbsu:
Yes Drummond but the games I have seen he's purely an outside receiver and possession count does nothing to counteract that argument.

Show me his tackle count, & hardball gets then we can have a real debate ;)

Its Josh Krueger

He has quit the Tigers, now playing for West Gambier I believe.

This is why I was very suprised this AFL club called him. No commitments or anything but just had an informal chat.

No, its not us ;)

Give me a sign if it is Port so I can gather an angry mob together and confront the recruiting team as to why they would be after a hack who belongs in a bubble so he cant get hurt.

Since when do you need to be an in-and-under player in this day and age? It's all about speed and hard runners off the bench. Kane Cornes averages a mere 1.5 contested possessions a game yet he is labeled as one of the best midfielders of the game. And besides, it’s not as though Hughes is soft, he hits the pack hard when coming off the wing.

And if you want contested possessions and tackling, then Bryce Campbell is your man. Would be one of the leaders in contested possessions in the league and dare I say in tackling too. He had 8 on Saturday and the same amount the week prior.

Hughs reminds me a lot of Tragenza and whilst he was a possession accumulator I doubt Adelaide would recruit that type of player today based on the type of player they have been targeting in the last couple of years under Craig.

He would need to have other strings to his free running bow and I haven't seen them to this stage

So you suggest we continue drafting the same types of players year after year, with no variety? Douglas is great in close, as is Knights, VB and even Pfeiffer. They're all great in and under and can get their hands free in congestion. Anyone can see that our current team is lacking some leg speed and looks slow, Hughes on the wing would be a brilliant addition. He is AFL ready and if drafted could slot straight onto the wing creating havoc. I don’t know what you’ve been led to believe because he’s more than just a youngster with speed. He can go forward too as he did on Saturday, where he led well and had 6 attempts at goal. More strings to his bow if you ask me.

AFL clubs do not recruit wingmen!

They recruit midfielders who are either inside distribution players or have the ability to run the lines....yes I know Hughes qualifies as fast but benchmark him against Mattner to see if he has the goods.

He appears to me to be a straight line runner and they get picked off in the AFL.

And what do you think Hughes is? Be honest, you haven’t see much of the lad have you? That’s precisely what he does, as well as having the ability to go forward and kick 3 goals in a quarter!

And Hughes would be faster than Mattner, no doubt about it. I know Mattner’s fast, but Hughes is just that fast it’s hard to believe. There was an article about him in the Advertiser a few months back, and he ran the 100 metres somewhere around the 11 second mark.

Hey Drummond you forgot to answer about the straight line running.......that's where the fast get run down and the not so fast who have the agility and game to weave excel.

I may be wrong but I reckon I have a better chance of being drafted by the Crows than Hughes ;)

:thumbsu: ;)

See Jordan McMahon- Hughes is a similar player and will have just as much success at AFL level, lets hope it's with the Crows.

Blue Red and Gold, I was at the game but unfortunately I didn't keep an eye on him, think he’s worth drafting? ;)

Hughes is your Scott Bamford type of player. Would mainly be parked on a wing at AFL level and told to run as far as he can and kick it into the forward lines.

Similarish to Pearce I guess but Pearce is better

Hughes has shown far more in the SANFL than Pearce ever did.

A few weeks before his promotion, Pearce was languishing in the reserves.

Wayne's World - Hughes would be a great get for the AFC. Pull your head out of the sand and realise this. Some posters on here are FAR too conservative.

By the end of last year Hughes had also done nothing at SANFL level. He played less games by the end of last year than Pearce had and was also "languishing" in the reserves.

Not sure, he is a a friend of a friend, so I have met him a few times. He is a big bloke and he is only 19 I think.

Played over in Canberra I think and has moved to South Adelaide this year, started of slowly but has now cracked the league side, playing up forward and rucking.
