I see massive upside in many of our players firstly Crameri, Zacka and Winders pretty much didnt play

TBC and Ryder whilst good at times over the entire 4 quarters both had probably below avg games when looking at boths ability

Hurley couldnt get going, Goddard probably played one of his worse games

People just need to realise that we now have an elite midfield and it runs oh so deep.

Teams should really thank us for getting on the juice, especially North Melbourne it gave them a finals appearance.

Love the stab at Norf :)

Crameri looked like he hurt himself early, but did nothing other than his goal. He's the only one who could be vulnerable IMO.

He then looked very proppy after that and was eventually subbed out of the game. I'm very surprised to not find his name in the injury list. Next week I'd like to see him get a rest and Gumby come in for him. Hurley showed his improved running last night and play that busy lead up player role with Gumby and resting ruck as deep marking options.

It would be great for Gumby's confidence to come in with the midfield firing against a lowly team. Also would be great for the club if we're going to trade him if he were to come into the side through the season and kick a bag. His trade value will greatly increase. If he demands a spot in the side then Hurley can go back and replace Hooker. A Hurley and Carlisle KPD duo would be amazing!

Man, what a fantastic night!

I wasn't even slightly worried at quarter time, I just felt like we were going to come over the top, based on that last 7-8 mins of the quarter.
The moment we started to get effective 50 entries, it was on!

Watson: 34 possessions, worked hard all night, effectiveness was huge, good to see so much emotion.
Howlett: MOTM for me tonight, he was superb, whenever the ebb would go the way of the Crows, he brought it back.
Kommer: What a debut, love this bastard, I think he's my favourite player after 1 game :\
Dempsey: Huge game, will probably be underrated.
Hocking: Shut down Dangerfield, gave him no space to run, everytime he got the ball he was straight on him.
Myres: Played the sort of game he needs to play to take his game up another peg. Some people didn't get my sarcasm about him in the gameday thread, top 6-7 players in this game.
Stanton: Effective, 26 disposals, defensive abilities are up.

Yes mate - I agree. I was worried when it was 22 - 0. Our guys just didn't seem to be getting into the game. But when you look at the overall final score, we put on 117 points while Adelaide only scored 62 for the rest of the game. To put this into context, we were playing in Adelaide, the weather at times should have been difficult (it wasn't for our guys), and these guys were semi-finalists last year and our form in the second half of last year was .............well it wasn't that good. So from the time our guys started getting into the game, the boys rolled Adelaide like they were KRudd.

Apart from the obvious guys who got lotsa mention, I was impressed with Dempsey. When he plays well, the boys play well. Then there was Alwyn Davey. I always look for the guy. OK! the stats don't show he did all that much, but I noticed that he was chasing and chasing; they knew they had to rush it if he was near, which put them under a lot of pressure.

Then there was Howlett. What can I say that hasn't already been said? To the Crows, he must have been the M*****F****r that was their nightmare.

Yeah! I'm happy again. :)

We made the most of what at times was a pretty poor opposition, but something I was very happy to see was chains of accurate kicks and handballs to players in good positions.

It'll still be a battle to make the 8 with this season looking so close but we're every chance of making it if we keep playing like that. We'll get a better idea of where we're at in a month, can't wait.

Outwardly happy me:
- Interstate win
- Beat a team a kick off making the GF in 2012
- Shut a bucket load of thier stars down
- Defense looked solid
- Some blokes didn't have superb games and others lifted to fill the void
- No major soft tissue injuries

Keeping the lid on me:
- We are weeks ahead of the Crows in their preseason development for 2013 - good time to play them before they hit their straps
- Kurt Tippett is a huge loss for them. With so much more emphasis on Tex, we shut the only real main offensive weapon down early and reaped the benefits.
- We've started the season off three years in a row as March premiers. We all know what can happen in 10 rounds time.
- Melbourne is a test case for us and we have many 'Demons' to kill off before we become a side to be listed as a contender
- Davey, for all of his three goals he muffed 4-5 others. Against other teams, we will be punished for such lapses
- Forward line, does Crameri fit our style of play? His body on, muscle for the mark has now been exposed and will only allow for a minimal amount of contests per game. He needs to get back to leading and marking to add a dimension to his game.

Overall - enjoying the win. After being in Adelaide for our last win against the Crows.......I can honestly say the best noise you could hear 20 mins into the last quarter was the thunk, thunk, thunk of the seats popping back into the upright position as the majority of the Crowd groaned and left the game with no hope in site. I can only hope for the Bomber crowd there last night, that they heard the same satisfying exit as I did.

Preliminary observations based on a less than satisfactory view at a pub with no sound and the usual distractions. I'm planning to watch a replay.

I am going to take the absolute silence on Hooker's game as a concession that he was excellent last night. He moved well, generally dominated aerial contests and made really good decision at ground level (the out on the full, that someone is going to obsess over, aside).

The best three performers of the night as far as I'm concerned were Howlett, Hocking and Dempsey and probably in that order. They, along with Hooker, were the guys that held things together in the first half.

I have to say that I didn't notice Heppell that much early but a few reviews have mentioned that he was also good in the first half so I'll reserve my position on his first half.

Watson and Stanton worked themselves into the game and took over from the other guys in the second half.

Our movement of the ball forward really doesn't make much sense to me. We continue to bomb the ball to Hurley and Crameri, in particular, when they are outnumbered and out-positioned. I don't like that our scoring tends to be limited to forward thrusts, reminding me of the way I used to score playing FIFA before I worked out the angles and timing, without much in the way of hitting leading targets. It makes me wonder whether there is any value in having all of these talented forwards. We seem far too happy to waste them.

I was very happy to see Melksham running on top of the ground playing with the zest that was so badly lacking last year. It was a solid contribution based on grinding the game out which is something he struggled to do last year. It bodes well for a big year. Hocking, Hooker, Myers, Melksham and Hibberd, in particular, all seem to be moving with much more freedom than last year and all made solid contributions.

I'll see if there is anything I want to add once I've had a look at the replay.

2013 is off to a fantastic start.

Gumby or even Joe would fit in we'll at the moment. They'll back Crammers in, but Gumby has to be in the frame if he can kick another bag in the VFL.

I will get to a few things no one has mentioned yet.

1. Roll over defense, looks like we are finally starting to get it. Rather than a lot of pointing and a lot of nothing we had blokes simply taking the mark with others pushing onto the loose men and 70% of the night the only loose Crows players where behind the player with the ball.
Was only a couple of fickle bounces or free kicks that saw them able to run through the middle.

2. The small forward position. Looks like we are right on the ball with this in that the AFL will no doubt change the SUB and interchange rules next year and we have gone with having a number of players who can play midfield/forward or back who are also pretty hard at the footy. Last night Howlett stood out but expect to see a lot more of Watson, Goddard, Melksham, Stanton, Dempsey playing forward in the rotations along with the frantic attack on the ball from the likes of Kommer.

3. The back 6 looked really good and the midfield worked bloody hard to push back and help them.

4. Despite the Crows getting away in the first quarter we did manage to hold them up for 5 or 6 minutes rather than us being 2 or 3 goals down in the first 6 minutes as has been the case in most interstate games.

i haven't actually looked at the replay yet, but imo the turning point of the game was that shank kick by Baguley that ended up in Dempsey's hands. the crows were pushing and Hooker and co were doing the normal. safe kick out of the 50, hoping for a pack mark or something, and that wasn't working. and then baguley tries a stupid risky kick, doesn't nail it, and we get the frickin' mark around the 50 mark we were dying for

Couple of things I noticed on the third replay (thank god for Saturday) was signs that the depth so many of us have yearned for in the middle seems to be coming together.. we had 12 guys (Watson, Stanton, Melksham, Hocking, Heppell, Howlett, Myers, Goddard, Zaka, Merrett, TBell, Ryder) who all had a run in the middle at times.. that is excellent signs moving forward. The team structures were good and I think Goddard will get better and better.. he did look lost a couple of times and some of that might have been nerves but also learning new structures/game style and the play of his team mates. I loved the energy of the mid's to get back and help in defence and also we didn't seem to 'over commit' to the forward thrust.. got the balance right which meant that when it was turned over.. Adelaide wasn't able to run down and score without opposition.. if that makes sense.

The play of Carlisle shouldn't be overlooked.. he kept Tex very very quiet despite 70% of F50 entries being directed towards him, also because he was beating Tex 1-1.. it freed Fletch up to play the sweeper role and rotate through the D50 which I think is Dustbin's best role. Hooker, Hibberd and Bagueley not getting beaten also helped with the structure.

Kudos to Melksham and Davey who both came out and played sensational second halfs.. all good signs.

Dafuq was that?

Woke up this morning and someone told me we'd just brutalised a top four side whilst interstate.

What's more, I'm being told it was our midfield that led the collective shoving of boots up Crow asses.

What sort of ***ed up parallel universe is this?
