Whilst I would say Hooker had a 'good' game.. surely you can't be serious to compare his efforts on Josh Jenkins to Carlisle's on Tex Walker's???

Two completely different beasts.. Tex is widely held in high esteem by 'experts' and 'fans' alike and is predicted to take the top mantle at Adelaide and potentially be up there with Franklin/Riewoldt/Pavlich for best forward honours this year.. to restrict him to 0 goals from the 2nd minute mark (figuratively) to the middle of the fourth qtr.. is uber impressive in my book. Tex then got a lace out pass from a midfield turnover over and then made a piece of magic happen for his second goal of the quarter. So I think you could say that Carlisle was probably 'beaten' in just two contests for the evening.. that is all you could hope for imho.

That is not to denigrate Hooker's performance.. but I didn't really expect Jenkins to rip us a new one.. whereas a freewheeling Tex *could* have kicked 6-7 against us. Historically our defence has been weak against dominate opposition forwards with a tendency to let them run rampant.. so plaudits all round.

The fact that Fletcher didn't have to be moved onto Tex at any point probably sums up the excellent job Carlisle did.

Still beaming today!! What a win.. now for Melbourne.

Like I've been getting at, we have been having the same arguments for 12 months now with Hooker and Carlisle switching places. I suppose it shouldn't surprise me that the table have been turned and the same arguments about the quality of opponent are now being used against Hooker.

I don't care what Leigh Matthews says, Jenkins would be close to being as dangerous in the air as Tippett is. Does it mean that Jenkins is in Walker's league? Of course not but I consider that Hooker was better in the early heat, killed a number of contests and was really fierce at ground level which seemed to me to be a better all round performance even if his game on Jenkins wasn't as good as Carlisle's on Walker (because Walker is the better player).

I really don't care who was better but the reality is that I don't have much time for the opinions of Carlisle on this board because largely they are the result of minds already made up rather than any consideration of week to week performances.

Actually technically fletch and Hooker both stood him for short bursts. ;)

Was impressed with the back line full stop. Amazing when we don't get killed in the middle they aren't so bad.

I posted late in the 2012 season that Hooker's role is to play on the second forward - He is more than capable - Carlisle will take the number one forward - There may three or four occasions during the season when Hooker takes the number one forward. The first big test will be in Round 4 and 5.

Hooker was good, but Jenkins isn't fit to tie Tippett's shoelaces - a man who often got the opposition's no.1 defender. Good to see, however, that he is now hand balling at every opportunity.

I watched some of the replay again yesterday and given where the club's been for the past 9 months (injuries crippling our 2012 then the ASADA investigation) I can't bring myself to focus on the negatives. There will be time for that later, I just enjoyed this one.

It was a bloody ripping effort. Sure, there are areas where we can improve, there are players below their best, but it was a statement the club had to make and they delivered in spades.

I didn't think it was possible but my man love for Jobe increased Friday night. Considerably. We've been blessed with great captains since I started following the almighty EFC and Jobe stacks up nicely.

Awesome win!

I made the trip up and in Adelaide's defence, I didn't experience any feralism at all.. Actually managed to have a laugh with quite a few of them (well before we turned it on of course).

Even after the game there didn't seem to be any ferals around waiting for the buses. Unless they were the ones that left early.

One thing's for sure though, I can't believe how biased they are though. I mean I know it is their home ground and all but it would have taken you til the opening bounce to even know who they were playing. The best part was when we overran them in the second quarter 6 goals to 1, and the announcer said "Pretty good quarter by the Bombers, but the highlight was this goal from Johncock"!!!! WHAAT??? Highlight for you guys maybe, but whay about the Bombers. Even our leading goalkickers only flashed on the screen momentarily...

Noticed that Adelaide scored 27 times from 48 I50 entries That's about 56% - The good is that if we can keep teams to 45-50 entries we will win many games - Bit more tweaking with defence to get that scoring down to 50% or less.

On the flip side we scored 27 times from 62 I50 entries - That's about 43% - Probably too many long bombs - Need to get a score from 50% of forward entries.

IMO it's what a home ground should be. I can guarantee if Windy Hill, Victoria Park etc were still in existance they wouldn't be pumping up the opposition tyres when making announcements etc. This is what we need to turn Etihad into for home games. Even though the opposition plays there a fair bit, it is OUR home game and the ****ing well know it.

Exactly. Having been to a few sporting events in USA, you really feel that there, and it makes for an awesome atmosphere.

The annoying thing is that nothing has changed on that front and it doesn't seem like we want it to change. If it continues we may as well play three rucks and trade away guys like Hurley for top 10 type midfielders.

...that escalated quickly.

Get your drift though.IF the plan is to bypass the forward, or to use the forward to split packs and create contest, why not replace Hurley-type with Mooney-type and benefit at the trade table.

Will be interested to see if the long-bombs continue as season progresses.

Or go for the full Geelong model, swinging Hurley back to bulletproof the defence and using Gumbleton or whichever cheap trade-in to crash packs until Daniher is ready.

Especially when he is the great nephew of Collingwood legend Thorald Merrett...Plenty of pies fans won't like the fact he is gonna be a bomber gun...
Wish Jacko was named Thorald instead

We could have had two cult heroes
