Autopsy Post Mortem vs Sydney. What a thriller! Pies by a point

9.4 ------------------> 11.14

2.10 last 12 scoring shots.....fmd
And that is why we nearly lost the game. 3 set shots and missed all 3.
I don't want to bag players that have only played 3 games for the pies, Chris Mayne?
He missed a crunch goal against the Tigers about 30m last week. Did it again in the Sydney game. 40m out. Did not make the distance.

He needs to take every chance he gets. Not impressed so far, sorry to say.

When's the last time we won at the SCG?
Round 4 2000. Pies were up and down all night, but Rocca kicked his fourth from outside the arc about 15 seconds to go. The fifties are small there, but he kicked it from inside the square, which is at least 55. Absolute gun back then. I emphasise then. Beat the Catters last year at Simmonds too, for the first time since the late eighties I believe? Now we just need to win at Subi and at the AO, and we can cross those of Bucks' ol' bucket list.....

But between that win and this one, we beat them a heap of times at their other ground. How many times have we played the Swans at the SG since 2000?

It was like the Richmond win last year. I enjoyed the win and the fact we got over the line in the tight contest but there are still problems and I hope we don't paper over the cracks.

That Richmond win last year was great, have watched the last 2 minutes a handful of times, very enjoyable.

Not sure this win will be as enjoyable on repeat but it's all we have so far in 2017!

Broomhead, more games like that please. hopefully he finds consistency. Anyone else notice he is actually smiling this year and showing more facial expressions?? Even has a cheeky top knot. Sorry I'm going if topic.. go pies

He seemed more in sync with the team today. Perhaps too much so, as someone mentioned he probably could have had a couple of more shots at goal tonight if not too unselfish.

With Moore, I think a lack of work rate not support is the issue and only Darcy can solve that.

Don't agree with the lack of work rate. Did well early but was outplayed by an AA defender (either AA or unfairly missed out from all the BF reading I've done over the years) in the end.

Just 21 and less than 50 games, he's a keeper.

Three times including tonight. We got done by a couple of goals in 2015, and we won't mention last year again. I was thinking to myself before tonight about the 43 scoring shots Sydney had, and cringe when I imagine them kicking straight.

As for Subi, we beat the Shockers in 2001, 2005, 2010, and 2011, and we did the Coasters in 2007 (our first win against them at the ground since 1992) and 2009. We beat them in a pre-season game there in 2013 too, but that wasn't for four points so......no countskies :p

I only mention Subiaco because I remember getting done by the Dockers in that close game back in 2015, and I think getting smashed by the Eagles every time we go over there is getting old.

Maybe when we play at the new Perth Stadium we will have a better run of the green eh? ;)

I think that was it until 2014
Nah 2014 was at Stadium Australia. I was in the States then and listened on Triple MMM. We were 0-1 that night, and the Swans got a four goal head start like they did against the Dogs last week. One way to stop us beating the Swans I suppose, is have them change the game to a ground we haven't played at in more than fifteen years, and then not tell us until the last minute?!!!

It's games like that which make watching sport and following this club great. After that performance I'll keep it to positives.

On the game the ball movement in the first quarter was brilliant. After quarter time it wasn't as good but I put that down more to Sydney pulling their fingers out more than a drop in application from the Collingwood players.

Grundy's form is outstanding and it really makes the drop in quality when White goes in to the ruck stand out.

Pendlebury and Sidebottom had fairly average games by their standards yet still racked up 25+ possessions and 10+ tackles each. Not bad for average games.

Treloar was not as prolific as he can be but Sydney surely felt the impact from his game. Adams, with the exception of some of his kicks, also had a great game. Crisp's game is also trending up.

Phillips is also coming on in leaps and bounds. With some more experience he'll hopefully clear up some of those clangers from his game and be more consistent over four quarters. Broomhead had his best game for the club and like Phillips will be better for the experience.

Schade and Goldsack stood tall in defense and Howe was again good without being dominant.

Ramsay and Maynard also improved immensely on their previous perfomances and looked very good, particularly when clearing the ball away from dangerous positions. Maynard also had a couple of immense one on one wins.

Greenwood looked dangerous up forward and Varcoe applied an enormus amount of pressure but I'd still prefer to see him played down back.

Fas did what Fas does. WHE was quiet but stood up when it mattered in the last.

White, although he still dosen't look like a KPF, continued his good early season form.

Mayne wasn't completely terrible:thumbsu:.

My memory is quite bad so was just going off search results. 2015 then?

My one tip against Collingwood that year, actually ever! Still managed to win the tipping that year, never tipped against us since!

I thought White did ok in the ruck, at least in the centre bounces.

Well done boys! Such a feeling of relief when the siren went.

We have won or tied scoring shots and won contested possession in all 3 games. Did not deserve to go 0-3

We didn't tie or win v the Tigers. Even if you add our out on the fool shots we still had one less, assuming they had 0 OOTF. But we were there abouts.

My one tip against Collingwood that year, actually ever! Still managed to win the tipping that year, never tipped against us since!
Missus had never seen AFL football until she came out here in 2014, and now she has pantsed myself and the cousin since. She tipped the Maggies on a calculated basis by a point tonight. You know how it turned out, don't you?

Careful tipping the woodsmen though. Cousin and I independently tipped them by 20 points tonight, and it was looking okay until half time. *sigh*. Well, I guess you'll be tipping them against the 'aints next week too? Any idea where it is at? I have a feeling it might be at Shocklands.....

I work at the mighty G, and I didn't see the Pies on the roster there next week :p

If it is, I have an impeccable record for 'aints games. Round 16 2016, the the Grannie, and Round 11 2011. That last one was when Krakouer kicked two magic goals before half time, when the 'aints were up. I will implode if we lose to them at the MCG again :straining:

Just finished watching the replay. Was able to enjoy the last quarter a bit more the second time.

Maynard was better than I thought originally. Much better with the ball, normally makes a few errors but not tonight. Ramsay was also cleaner with the ball. Hope both lads take a lot of confidence out of tonight, we have no depth down there so are quite reliant on them.
Adams' work around the packs was huge all game. Would love another one of him because he's handy down back too. Named him BOG straight after the game and the replay confirmed that for me. Fingers crossed he stays fit for the year, is such a consistent player for us, particularly when he doesn't try to get too fancy by foot. Wouldn't be surprised if he's our next captain.
Broomhead looked comfortable in the back half late in the game. Wouldn't mind seeing more of him on a back flank.
Moore's form is worrying. Seems to want to just jump over everyone, rarely see him leading hard into space. One goal in three weeks is a cause for concern.
WHE's goal reminded me of the one Dids slotted against Brisbane in the 2003 QF.
Fas has kicked 32 goals in his last 15 games. Can't ask for much more than that, his miss late in the game could have cost us though!
Composure coming out of the back 50 and also entering our own 50 needs to improve. Too many defensive 50 turnovers. Lucky for us Sydney failed to capitalise on quite a few of them.

Given how hard we worked tonight the 9 day break will be an absolute godsend. Saints will be off 2 days less than us, that definitely helps. Another must win game.

Always makes the weekend more enjoyable when you start with a win like that. Go Pies!
