And what is the relevance with Andrew Thompson
Andrew didn't wait 4 years to take his chance once he got on an AFL list, he grabbed his chance and ran with it 1st chance he got
Yeah.
Wasnt Thommos first yr 97???
Played well enough to be in a grand final team.
Poor Tommy not good enough to be in a bottom team so far.
Thats not a pot shot at Lee as i know hes had a very frustrating run at it.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Tom Lee will be next year's Dylan Roberton: people will go, "Wait, this guy has been on our list, and suddenly, THIS?!! Woohoo!"

I wonder if the club has given him a little more time cos we used such a high draft pick on him. And if we picked him up with say pick 47 he wouldve been gone by now. Pick 12 being a bust is a bit embarrassing i guess.
OR do the club just see something in this kid thats worth 'Perservering' with .
Time will tell. Gonna be interesting watching Tommy this yr:thumbsu:

Hope he becomes the 3rd tall defender to complement Hugh and Jake.

If he doesn't well, at this stage I don't mind too much.
So do I, but the game has changed in terms of structured team defence since Chips was in his pomp; you need to be a viable defender now as well.

Is Tom athletic enough to cover the Gunstans of this world, and at a pinch play on both talls and genuine smalls?

Is his disposal good enough to make him a genuine attacking weapon from defence?

Is he a good enough reader of the play to make up for his lack of body strength in contests?

They're the questions he needs to answer if he's going to make it in that position.

Josh Gibson, Colin Garland, Dylan Grimes... These are the blokes we need him to be.

Andrew Thompson was delisted from Footscray went OS for a year and drafted by us @ 24.y.o

Tom Lee is 24 y.o.

Sorry it pricked your ballooning
I get what your saying Joffa.
Lee did nothing at Adel
Thommo did nothing at Dogs.
But Thommo blossomed at 2nd chance.
Yes Tommy is 24 but his 2nd chance has stagnated so far.
But i admire your support of a young player:thumbsu:
His papers arent stamped just yet IMO.

All I am saying is to say so and so is 24 so won't make it is factually incorrect.

He may not make it because he is not good enough, but to use age is just wrong
He's actually nearly 25, but the issue as far as his age goes for me is this:

At 24yrs 10mths, and allowing for his cruel injury record, Tom STILL hasn't got the body of an AFL footballer. Sure, he's 194cm and 91kg, but I'm buggered if I know how he's that heavy, he's got no definition whatsoever.

Is that an injury thing, or a not working hard enough thing, or just his body? Who knows, but he just doesn't seem to be physically AFL-ready...

He'll never make it with a bod like that :p:p

Mate you are wrong no need for abuse. Own it and move on
Andrew Charles Thompson (born 21 October 1972) is a retired Australian rules footballer for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Thompson was recruited in the 1996 AFL Draft at pick no 62 and was picked up from the VAFA club Old Melburnians. At the time of his recruitment Thompson was 24 years of age, relatively old for an AFL footballer to begin his career. Thompson later said that being recruited at a late age allowed him to become more travelled and worldly than other footballers who begin their careers at 17 or 18 years of age.

and before anybody fires up im only having a joke with Daddy-B.
Im in no way comparing Lee to the great Flower.
Too late... I'm offended, and feel bullied...

:drunk:

Didn't mention his age once in my post.

IF he was not on the list and you had to choose someone from the zebs. Would you choose Lee or Brown.
Very similar age.
