It will be interesting when the main group come back and by then i think everyone should be pretty right to do the 3km time trial. Results should be interesting then. Even going by these results the 2nd place was only 12 seconds behind newnes who im pretty sure even beat gears and dempster last year in the running.

Billy is a cracking fella. He's either nearly asleep or asleep, even at the footy club! The most laid back, funny kid you'd ever meet but the thing I love is that as soon as he runs onto the ground he has white line fever. He's going to be such a physical ruckman for us when he matures and he'll look after our mids so well. Very popular amongst the group.

He is always the best bloke to catch up with at the BnF. Mindtraveller had him rambling on about his online gaming habits last year and he and Hickey were talking plenty of shit about Stanley too haha

Do you think that with a continue in developing his tank, Acres can play some inside midfield this year?

I've made no secret of how highly I rate Blake Acres. I thought his first final for Sandy was just superb. To see a 19yo kid (who's come from a long way back) perform the way he did was so exciting. He has the rare ability to find the footy in tight and just find his way out of trouble. At his size, with his athleticism I think we have a pretty special player on our hands.

Yeah, except then Stanley got traded.

Makes you wonder...

I remember we asked them if they thought all three of them could play in the one side. Hickey said he had been told he was going to play forward more and Billy replied "Maybe Ill play forward too and Rhys can piss off to the ruck!"

Was a good laugh at the time but yeah... maybe there was more to it haha

In all seriousness, the Acres and Minch ones are the two that most excite me there. The big criticism of both those guys in the past has been their tank - plenty of talent, but neither could run out games. For Acres, that meant he's often been brilliant... for the quarter he's played as sub. For Meatball, he's been amazing in the guts at Sandy... but only had the tank to play small forward for the Saints. If those two can get their tanks up to AFL standard, that is going to be very, very exciting.
Was pumped to see Blacres in the top 4, but at the same time it also wasn't a huge shock, as he has elite long distance running pumping through his blood and from memory did very well in his endurance testing before his injury in his draft year. So it was really probably just a matter of time before he started to do really well in these time trials.

The thing that pleases me most about him doing so well is just that he is already fit and running it though, rather than being in the rehab group for some niggling injury. Ditto Murdoch, who also ran it and will hopefully have his first full preseason and give himself a chance to really show what he's got.

Very happy to see Minch up there in the top 10 of course and also Jack's Lonie and Sinclair. 6 was a very good result for Lonie I thought. Hopefully all 3 of them spend more time in the midfield next season.

Great to hear Bruce give big Hugh a big wrap for how strongly he was running "for someone so young and over 100kg", too.

Really looking forward to seeing how Seb goes next year if he has a full preseason and is injury free. Club was expecting him to have a break-out year prior to him doing his hammy this year.

Lots of pleasingness! :thumbsu:

Let's not get too ahead of the results of some of our boys today.

Some elite runners were sitting out, such as: Freeman (one of the best runners in his draft, and I'm pretty sure he won the time trial for COLL last season)
Came second overall (including senior players) with a time of 6.06 in the 2km last year.

Should we be concerned that so many are slower than Ross?
Not in an endurance event and especially as he's now into what, his 5th preseason, like Newnes? He came 5th or thereabouts last year in one of the time trials, so this is just a natural progression.

HUGE GODDARD.
