Training Pre Season '24

I went down today, first time ever to a training session. It was a great arvo in great weather.

I refuse to draw conclusions/make predictions based on a training run however, so will withhold a few things I saw until we see more in season.

Hopefully the preseason match against the Pies we get a better view of our best 22 for round 1.

Currently watching replay, few takeaways so far:
F50 entries still a concern. Still far too much of the bomb it in long at the first opportunity. No changing angles, nothing really inventive.

Our field kicking was very long but early doors they were hitting targets. I'm not sure if this style is because they are just super comfy on the Punt Road oval. I'm not sure if it's feasible but will need to see against other teams.

Liked Dow a lot, knows how to find it.

Sonsie being played predominantly as a high half forward is interesting. Not thrilled with what I've seen so far.

I'm half way through so far.

I reckon Edwards was a lot more crafty around goals and by foot, but yes in terms of agility, hands, movement in traffic very similar.

Edwards had some of the quickest hands I've seen in our side, infact probably the quickest during that era.
I was watching the 2019 game vs Collingwood and the Saints Semi-Final, and every time I was amazed at how clean Shedda was. Like, those hands were incredibly good. I don't think I've seen better to be honest.

Dont know if we will get much out of Prestia going forward. He has been great but I heard he wanted to move back to Queensland.

I would liked to have seen a trade done over summer to get us back into the draft.

Relevance to this thread is that he left the track early. Might not be much in it but is struggling to stay on the park.

Watched the full replay. Here's my thoughts.

Martin had more mid time and looked like Dusty.
Baker wasn't as clean as usual, but got around it a lot in the mids and kicked a nice goal
Nank is the clear #1 ruck
Graham was solid, moving well, strong, clean, and played more mid than last couple years
Hopper was BoG by far. Very clean. Great lateral movement and strength.
Mansell was a very solid small forward option)
Dow was very good except for his goal kicking
Brown's clearly a smart player; just needs to get it more
Short's got the main distributor role locked up
Fawsett was a pleasant surprise. Has good size and pace; beat Gibcus comfortably
Ross - The wing is his
Naismith > Kosi or Balta. Balta is not a forward. Both him and Kosi were very poor
Sonsie played a HFF role with 2 goals; not bad, but didn't get much of it

Others either didn't stand out or I didn't notice them. Didn't notice Steely and McAuliffe as much as their stats show.
Are there stats available

I think Trezise will actually be a surprise this season and play most games. He’s a good kick, left footer which is always handy to have in a team.
If you were to draw comparisons to players in are premiership years you’d go
Rance, Astbury, Broad, Grimes.
Balta, Gibcus, Young, Trezise.
Obviously will be hard to get to the level of that back 4. But if they can get close which I think they could. We have something to work with.

I can't stop laughing at the negative nellys already cracking the sads on Jan 31st. New coach, new gameplan, first real hit out. "yeah hur dur, I gots bored etc etc" FO idiots. I guess you'll have nothing to say once the real stuff fires up. I'm only halfway through. Will watch the second half tonight.

Two days ago I was reading people saying they hate the short cut training highlights the club put out… next minute they put out an entire hit out and now it’s boring
