If she was asking them to wave as they ran by I'd understand your concern Pete, but Names on shirts doesnt have any adverse effect on the quality of their training.

Yeah, I think you're on your own on this one SP. I like the idea of putting names or at least numbers on the back of training guernseys. It isn't going to affect the players one bit, and in fact, they do exactly that once it gets to early February and the new jumpers are finally in. Which leads to some amusing situations such as players putting on an unexpectedly large amount of muscle mass between the jumpers being orders and them arriving, and them not fitting into them and having to wear someone else's old jumper :D There were several repeat numbers at training last year to keep us on our toes, hahaha.

Even if it were a bad idea (which I don't think it is), it's far from a terrible one. It would certainly help the fans to identify more with training, at practically zero detriment to the squad.

No SP is not the only one on this. What a silly idea and impractical also. Jumper/bib swapping happens on the fly during training, sometimes they are turned inside out. Should the club take time to coordinate during training that the players are wearing their correct names, etc just to appease a bunch of retirees and uni students on holidays? Give me a break.

As a fan, you should know all of the players by sight.

Oh for goodness sake, over-reaction much?

I am neither a retiree nor uni student thanks very much. :p And I live in QLD so do not have the knowledge of NEW players like many local regulars do. Having said that, there appear to be plenty of locals that also have the same problem. It can't hurt, so why not give it a try?

Not an over-reaction at all. I am part of the informed minority only trying to highlight the impracticality of such an idea, which is whole-heartedly endorsed (except for SP) by the sheep-like, yes people of this wavering board.

It has been quite evident over the years that you live in Brisbane, so you need not tell me. :D

As for the locals not knowing, well that is truly reflective of the supporter base this club owns. You only need to stand behind them at training to see them struggle with player names, some of which have played 50-75 games.

Oh gee kudos to you champ you can visually identify every member of the Adelaide Football Club, including new rookies - you win.

Well pardon me... let me bow down before your magnificence. What an over-inflated opinion you have of yourself. An "informed" minority of two? Doesn't occur to you that the "un-informed" majority might have it right? How exactly are they "yes people"?

All you have demonstrated by this ridiculously smarmy self-indulgent post is that in all probability you have never been to a Crows training session when the players are only wearing singlets or similar T-shirts and caps, and tried to identify players who have only just been drafted or traded in while writing a training report to share with your fellow posters.

As for your feeling of superiority, believe me it is only a complex, not a reality.

Guess what Macca, you don't know it all.....

Incase you haven't noticed 13 of the 47 players (27%) on our list are new to the club for the 2012 season. That's on top of another 4 that have never played a game for Adelaide. We have another 8 players who have played under 20 games for the Crows.

Do you want to know how many players have played 50+ games of AFL on our list? Just 15 players of the 47 on our list which a touch under 32%.

So:rolleyes:

The idea of names on the back of training singlets is a good idea. I have a good eye for who is on the track but I can understand how difficult it can be. Remember us supporters are a long distance from the action and don't have the benefit of big screens like on game day.
Apart from that it could potentially become a new idea for merchandise for the club to sell. Buy a singlet or polo shirt and have the players name on its back.

lol i thought you were kidding to start with, angry little man arent you :D
so to be a supporter we must be able to name every player from 100 metres away despite them all wearing caps and the same gear and only being drafted weeks ago! turn it up champ

And Doughty... oh oh, and Symes! :D;):thumbsu:

Nah Doughty has been a loyal foot soldier who will see out his last year in peace and Symes will be lucky to get a game. Reilly on the other hand hopefully will be found out under Sandos regime and help Sturt beat Port in the SANFL.

I have a feeling Symes may get some gametime. Sando might like his hardness. But he should not be allowed to kick! In and under, retrieve it and give it to the outsiders with a handpass

I could be wrong though.... just a feeling

I agree i hope he does. I think he could have more to offer than Doughty or Reilly. He knows where to run and is a real footballer in that sense. But yeah get him to hand it off as often as possible.

Really? If fit, I would imagine Symes will play a fair few games this year. As will Dogga. But it won't stop "those that bag". They've got to have more than one whipping boy.

Given the flaws in Symes game, if we really think its in our interests to play Symes then I am very concerned. We've just recruited a heap of new players with an eye to the future, we will fit some of them in the team, whose spot do they and Symes take?

Symes was the last one offered a contract and it was one year at that. Surely that tells you something.

I anticipate Doughty will play alot of football if his form stays solid, but if it drops then it could be an early end.

Whilst everybody is entitled to their opinion, it’s childish quotes such as this that are driving people not to respond any longer. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the lack of quality posters who don’t appear on here any more, due to what I believe are stupid posts such as this.

Pity really.

You can be civil for goodness sake if you don’t agree with somebody.

WOW.... Reading the last 3 pages.... Over names on training shirts?.... Would of thought it would be pretty harmless... It is almost a serious as singling out players in training reports. Criminal
