Just watched the first half, first q at around 8 minutes, elbow to the head, send off.
Second q, around 10 minutes, elbow to the head, send off.

Second q, sling tackle, umpire obscured, knocked the player out, concussion and 21 days off for him, no free kick.

Haven’t watched the second half, but another report and send off in the third q, the same in the last q, another report.

Plus, they abused the umpires all days, giving away three goals, two into the gale that lasted until 3qt.

Last q, their time keeper almost got into a punch on with a SKOB match committee member, who asked him to stop abusing people as he refused to sit in the timekeepers box and instead stood right above the SKOB bench.

Finally, the crowd hung around the umpires room after the game and abused them long after they left the ground. SKOB were ready to protect the umpires if need be.

Pretty mad day at the King!

So a pretty standard St Bernards crowd by all accounts. Pity about the on-field antics.

I did have a look. The loud mouth that can be heard on the mic is quite something. Young men getting blows to the head is not on in any competition anymore

From my current Wesley experience but evidently across the board, this is a 3-fold issue.
1) The ever changing demographic mix of kids / families, who are happy to pay the growing fees, but have a disdain for sport. The schools no longer have the ‘support’ to compel mass participation, as they enjoy the spoils of $$$. This is felt at younger levels & lower down than 1st & 2nds teams, that will always continue to thrive.
2) Teacher / coaches - already has seen a swing to paying ex students for many roles, for younger teams & lower down the pecking order. It’s also something of fallacy of sorts teachers moaning about extra duties. Certainly for most senior teams (1sts & 2nds again) are generally specialist sport coaches, including say extra roles also NB: Head of Footy, Aths, Rowing, Cricket, etc.
Sometimes they might double up as PE, English teachers.
3) Facilities - there’s huge $ millions invested in A grade infrastructure (gyms, pools, b’ball courts, outdoor fields, boat sheds, etc). Could anybody see a scale back that would make a mockery of such assets being under used !

What has been suggested, is offering new ‘activities’ as alternates for the families not ‘engaged’ as such, IE: yoga, pilates, health / well being, cycling, etc. Suspect some sports may find themselves on the outside if numbers are low.
Plus perhaps shifting some year levels inter-school sport to mid week, from a Sat to soften teacher impact.
But the core sports are believed to always survive ( footy, cricket, rowing, Aths, basketball, Netball, soccer, etc) perhaps with fewer numbers at some big schools.

Not A grade related, but I think there are some great points in here, but one you have not mentioned is this push to go away from Saturday sport as being purely commercial from the school. I remember being at Wesley Glen Waverley on Saturday afternoon waiting to bat, and the scores of cars coming and going to pick up / drop off kids to language school.

Back on A grade, this weekend has some genuinely sensational fixtures.

First versus second with SKOB and Old Brighton
Collegians needing to win to guarantee finals, Fitzroy needing to win to have any chance of staying up.
Old Scotch needing to win to get a double chance and Old Xavs needing to win to have a shot at playing finals.
Blues v Blacks in the battle of uni oval.
OMs against St Bernard’s.

It still think it’s far too late to be wrapping up the home and away season, but let’s see what happens. There’s nothing like a hotly contested final round Saturday afternoon footy.

Good question, I heard it was the same against OX the week before, maybe they’ve been told to play like it? They won’t have a team round one next year if it continues again this week.

Both of them had the chance to reverse the fk once they saw the SKOB flat on his back with a fencing response.

Numerous re cards and suspensions is poor, but more serious is the abuse and threatening behaviour towards the umpires. Bernards supporters have form in that regard. Maybe the VAFA should strip them of four points - that would send a message.

Dan Houston got 5 weeks and the umpires confirmed they didn’t believe it was a free kick. Video clearly shows a sling tackle and head hitting the ground. Also clear that the incident occurred on the outside towards the pavilion leaving the umpire being blindsided.

Deserved the weeks.

I could see how the HTB was paid. Why were they dickeahss, sounds like the players were, coaches, committee members and officials lost the plot.

The pressure of relegation does weird things.
