Indian ChiefDoes anyone know what a running pattern is?
Laird is somehow still underrated on this board.4 made the ZH top 50 Laird, Keays, Walker and Dawson..
as is keayes!Laird is somehow still underrated on this board.
Keays might be the most polarising AFC player in a few yearsas is keayes!
Mostly the only ones that don't appreciate what he brings are some of his team's supporters.Keays might be the most polarising AFC player in a few years
I’d like to think (or hope) that most appreciate, at leastMostly the only ones that don't appreciate what he brings are some of his team's supporters.
And some are shot down for pointing out his obvious flawsMostly the only ones that don't appreciate what he brings are some of his team's supporters.
Keays is only 25.Mostly the only ones that don't appreciate what he brings are some of his team's supporters.
I've been wanting to ask this for years.Does anyone know what a running pattern is?
I'm not 100% .....I do know FWD's running patterns .....with MIDS, I assume it's the movement around the ball (defensive side or offensive side of the contest) ....then running to a defensive position when the oppo have the ball, and offensive position, when we have itI've been wanting to ask this for years.
Is it knowing where to run to receive the ball in the most efficient way (i.e. not running around in circles wasting energy)? Could this even be called a pattern? Or is it just reading the play well?
Particularly for forwards, yes.Wouldn’t it also include running to create space for your teammates and to foster ball movement?

I can't quote you StonesThrow because bigfooty is stuffed on my phone but there's a Jack Dyer quote from decades ago "Don't be where the ball ain't."
I assume that "running patterns" is a modern lingo update to make it sound more sophisticated
Coached a team with 3 key forwards one year. They were forever in each other's space until we trained in some simple running patterns."running patterns" is bullshit lingo to excuse poor performance and continued selection. Nobody gives a s**t about a pattern if you're getting the ball and using it well. Sog is a goober, but I still love him.
Just new terminology for smart footyWouldn’t it also include running to create space for your teammates and to foster ball movement?

It's a big step to get a bloke who thinks he's the best forward in the team to lead where he won't get the ball, just for another forward to get a shot on goal.
The opposite of McHenry and Murphy, Riley Knight, Patrenko basically.Just new terminology for smart footy
The dog lookingfor the lost tennis balllThe opposite of McHenry and Murphy, Riley Knight, Patrenko basically.
Guys who seem to run alot but aimlessly and with no real impact. Basically following the ball blindly.
Must be a shit player by those ratings.see heres my issue... what can be polarising about this? he is not the only top player in the AFL with poor DE%
