The Hawthorn FC and Coaching Staff in denial!!!

After reading Dermi's article in the herald sun I just couldn't understand and bare the thought why on earth is he writing a negative article on Essendon? The last time I remember Dermi was and X Hawthorn champ. Why would he comeout and post an article which will make the Bombers come out breathing fire.

We are all in denial, the club, coach, Dermi and the supportors not even he Dermi acknowledges that we are playing crap footy. Instead of him coming out and pumping up the Hawks his pumping up the Bombers. His excuse is this will be defining season for Essendon, but it won't define our season? This game is the most important game of the season. I'm sick and tired of hearing if we get our full side and when we a full side we will win! We waited the whole of last year and we got nothing. We waited the whole of preseason we got nothing and still we are still hearing the same garabage.

The EX hawthorn greats like Dunstal, Dermi, Crawf and CO should have come out and gone off there heads seeing the way we are playing. Why on earth aren't they giving us crap for our poor skill errors, lack of long kicks, happy hand balling and weak footy?

But instead they keep there mouth shut and blame injuries and then you get Dermi pumping up the bombers, you have the coach blaming injuries week in and week out. Sticking with playing one ruckman and using Hodge as a hitman. Its not going to work!!! Does Clarkson thinks that he is going to change how the ruck works? Since the start of the season till now we havent even seen a tactical decision that has worked. Maybe he should look at carlton and take some off there idea's such us dropping some senior players!

If they think we will kick into gear next week just by doing nothing and keeping there mouths closed we will suffer and waste another season sitting on the sidelines!!!!!

Good post with some salient points. Clarko take heed!

Re: The Hawthorn FC and Coaching Staff in denial!!!

Dermott didn't write the article. It was written by Mark Robinson.
He made comment on Essendon, as is his role as part of the media, and Robinson quoted him.

Secondly, you've already posted this post in another thread.

So there's no need to rehash it and start a new one.

Rat Jnr

...reports that filtered out of Adelaide last year concerning former champion Hawthorn rover John Platten - specifically his not-so little boy, who was showing some promise as a ruckman. ...Not likely, says 258-game Brownlow medallist Platten. While admitting that 16-year-old son Jake ''has had me covered since he was about 14'' on the height front and did play as a ruckman for his local team Elizabeth, he is now haring around on a wing and half-forward flank for Central District under 16s, and clocks in at a ''pretty skinny and light'' 178 centimetres.

Might be one worth keeping an eye on for a future F/S...

Enough excuses..... where is the Hawthorn Hunger

Cry me a river about injuries. Yes we have been hit harder than anyone I can remember in the 20 odd years I have been following the brown and gold but they only contribute so much.

We seem to be missing that pack mentality we had in 08. We were a nasty, hard and unpopular team. We had a team opponents thought twice about when entering a contest.

We are only that 5% off being a dominant team again so stay patient gang, this tide shall change.

Re: Question - what did Clarko say after the game?

What ever happened to those Hawthorn camouflage style t-shirts the guys were wearing in Kokoda? Didn't someone mention they'd be available to buy and I haven't seen anything on the Hawksnest website or any at the games.

Any ideas?

ESS vs HAW -- AFL's match preview

Just read the AFL's match preview on the Bombers website of all places, and I have to say, I've just been t-boned by the semi-trailer of reality.

A tough read:

http://www.bombersfc.com.au/season2010/news/newsarticle/tabid/6477/newsid/93190/default.aspx

Very hard to believe -- and accept -- that we're staring down the barrel of a bottom-eight finish for the second year in a row -- two years after winning the flag with the youngest list in the AFL.

Some excerpts from the preview:

"The Hawks were hurt by the late withdrawal of their only ruckman Brent Renouf last week but while he is playing an important role, he is just one player. His absence doesn’t explain why disposal has been poor and defenders are being beaten."

"The Bombers and Hawks always take a lot of pride out of beating each other but, more importantly, both need a win here to keep some hope alive for season 2010."

"What becomes of the losing side? Just about crisis mode. The Bombers have copped a bit of flak for their insipid Anzac Day performance while the Hawks still get excused. But whichever side loses this one will inevitably be bracketed with Adelaide and Richmond as lost causes for 2010."

"Hawthorn is the more experienced and talented side and really shouldn’t be in the position it is in".

Harsh but fair ... we should win ... unfortunately I don't think we will ...

... He's right that the Hawks still get excused .. the Age headline ran with "Brave Hawks" ... brave Hawks ??? - rubbish.

Re: ESS vs HAW -- AFL's match preview

Agree, that is the harsh reality... been stated in other threads but it is an almost impossible task to come back from 1-5.

This weekend is our home and away grand final. Get our season kick-started.

Unfortunately we failed time and time again at the end of last season to capatalise on similar opportunities to play finals footy.

I hope they just DO SOMETHING!

Comic Relief for Round 6 V Scum

Hope you don't mind yeahmate I have copied and pasted your post from the below mentioned thread, the idea being that others may want to add their own version either optimistically or pessimistically.

For all that has happened recently to the Hawks reading your post gave me some reasons to actually have a laugh:D, thought it was really well done.

Go Hawks!!!!!

Details of the original post are as follows;

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=700610

This is how we will beat the SCUMs and why!!!

No offence to the OP, but given 2009 and our start to 2010, Ive decided its best to be pessimistic about these things. With that in mind, I fully expect at least one or more of the following to happen on Saturday

Renouf to withdraw during the warm up with an undiagnosed strain of some mysterious flesh eating virus only to re-appear at half time in the rooms pale faced with a vacant look on his face attempting to devour his teammates and chanting "brains..brains.." before falling into a fire

Clarkson to finally crack under the pressure of trying to develop an innovative new gameplan, given other teams dismantling of the 2008 zone and the complete absence of any ruckman. In desperation he puts Changa and Osborne into the ruck who alternate caterpolting themselves at Ryder and Hille at centre bounces until Ozzie lands awkwardly on Hodge and both are KO'ed for the remainder of the game

The hamstring curse, having taken out most of our new recruits, realises there are still a couple standing so wipes out Benny Stratton and JKT in the first quarter

Browny loses the plot, takes the Channel 10 boundary rider hostage and demands Matthew Lloyd meet him immediately for a punch on or else the boundary guy "gets it". He is escorted from the ground by security, leaving us six players down on the night

Dermott to address the players at half time and make an impassioned speech to "draw a line in the sand". The players to largely ignore him but Buddy to get reported and suspended for 4 weeks anyway for staging even though he somehow loses a tooth in the contest

Rough to kick 0.7 on the night, the situation becoming farcical as he lines up with 5 minutes in the last to put us in front 5 meters out directly in front only for the ball to inexplicably boomerang 50 meters backwards over his head to a loose essendon player

I could go on but I am getting depressed again, time for a lie down.

Mike Sheahan article from 1978

When googling for the name of a 1970s era hawk left footer I couldn't quite recall, I stumbled across this 1978 Age article written by Sheahan, and thought other's might find it amusing. I believe we went on to win the flag a few short weeks later :)

Re: Mike Sheahan article from 1978

You can see how he's justified a 30 year career in the media based on that article. Full of insight, clarity and.....no wait, he's just rehashed a heap of stats which kind of fits a nothing story, but allows him to wade into the "bad hawks" theme.

If you wrote the same thing over and over and over again for 30 years, you'd be in a padded cell and straight-jacket.

hmm....

Re: Mike Sheahan article from 1978

For more recent articles they link directly to the age, found this quality piece by Caro:
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/05/17/1052885446887.html

Loved this quote 'Which brings us to Crawford, who continues to indicate in so many different ways that his natural inkling is no longer for football'.

This was 2003, the year he missed out on winning the Brownlow by 1 vote.

Bad call Caro, bad call.

Did someone post after Roddy?

:(

Well the only way I can think of to win you back is to serenade you with this classic melody from Air Supply

"I'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you!
I know you were right, believing for so long.
I'm all out of love, what am I without you?
I can't be too late, to say that I was so wrong!"

<3

Did someone post after Roddy?

Yes they did Cheeseman. Contrary to popular belief, i do in fact have a job (believe it or not i even have a degree too).

I was trying, unsuccessfully, to convey humour at my realistion of how much time i had spent on big footy recently...hence my question about how i could possibly make some money from the amount of time im spending on here... :)

Perhaps the question is better off in the bar and grill where attempts at humour arent frowned upon.

p.s i hate air supply
