Karma for that *ing atrociously officiated game a few years ago when Nic Nat kicked the winner at the death. * em!!! Remember all the ducking from Selwood, Shuey and Cox to get them over the line.
Nothing can ever make up for the 2015 PF.

I watched the replay... why the heck didn't Ford start? Something usually happens when he's around the ball, so to have him parked on the bench and unavailable for almost a half seems stupid. He needs to start, brings good energy.
Because he has been poo with no defensive efforts and flat out lazy. Like majority of the forwards. Yesterday evening was not a usual performance. If he keeps that up, he will be a starting player.

Forward-half pressure was significantly better than previous weeks last night. Very noticeable uplift.

Ford, Curtis, Zurhaar, Larkey, Taylor, Sleevo and Pink seemed to be all having some form of impact. Whether they had a poor game or not everyone needs to make the opposition hate life and they did that.

Apparently that's the first game this year we've kept the oppo under 100 points? Pretty good effort given it was over there with 45K in the crowd.

Also, yeah they're not going great, but a forward line of Waterman, Darling, Ryan, Cripps, etc, is still decent.

I said last year when they beat us by a kick, look at the age of profile of the best players.

Same applies yesterday

McGovern
Cripps
Yeo

Plus Darling, Barrass, Duggan, Liam Ryan

Tim Kelly when he’s back.

All of the above are 28 this year or older.

Not counting sheed and gaff who aren’t best 22.

That’s 8 of their best 22.

Reid and Allan are obviously guns, but their age profile isn’t great.

Objectively you beat our midfield hands down for 3 quarters. Very good team performance. Thought Larkey was great Simpkin played a real captains game. Good recovery from being smashed for a quarter. I had actually forgot about the NicNat after the siren win and the 2015 game good memories. It’s hard to begrudge you for being up and about after a win given it’s been what 13 in 4 years. Very good performance look forward to the return leg hopefully we have a few back.

If the Eagles supporters are fair dinkum they should look at their own players' performances rather than the umpiring (even though the last free kick was 100% there despite missing the Ford free kick and Wardlaw high free kick).

The big picture is they just got done on their home deck and we've just given everyone a blueprint on how to do it. Equalise the contests and pressure.

Wen have struggled for years to win contest and withstand pressure. We have been great at it in 2 games which we won when we go away from it like yesterday we look terrible. If we had been competitive in the midfield earlier we would have better conversion because we wouldn’t been forced out wide. This rebuilding roller coaster is hard work hey.

I'm a bit late to this party thread, as I was at the game (so good, finally!) and went a bit hard after to celebrate, so it's been a slow morning.

Watching the 'controversy' around Yeo's HTB replayed, I counted potentially three other free kicks that could have been paid to Wardlaw anyway (twice high contact, plus grabbing him by the jumper and ramming his head into the ground!) so Yeo can gagf with his sooking it up on camera after the match.

Haven't read the whole thread so not sure if mentioned but I think Boomer in the crowd summed it up quite nicely! :D

So, I'm finally getting to watch the game.

Just watched the first quarter and am absolutely blown away with the amount of times an eagles player gathers, takes 4-5 steps, attempts to take on the tackler, has the ball knocked free, and a free ISN'T paid. Think I'm up to at least 5 clear missed calls already.

Q2: Why wasn't Cripps and his opponent instructed to clear the area after Comben received a free. Allowed Cripps to be within 5m of the player and jump on his back when he played on. Then a 50 paid to WC directly after (ump stops the shot to tell everyone to clear out) for a goal.

Ford pushed out in the last 3mins (directly in front of goal) was identical to one the eagles got early in the game resulting in a goal. Not called for us.

They can't complain.

The new harsher HTB was applied inconsistently through the game. It was a nice surprise that a 50:50 call like that went in our favour at that point in the game. I thought there was more unfair luck in the soft goal they got for the hold inside 50 - if they were all paid there would be a feast of forward free kicks - but across the whole game that kick probably evened out and it was a well-deserved win.

Even though they kicked more scoring shots, I thought it was more good defending to put them in harder positions than bad kicking.

So many things to be pleased about in that game - one was the tackling and pressure and another was Jy’s display of bravery and skill, and it was poetic to see that come together in a critical moment.
I thought so too. They worked hard and it was never really a case of they got on top. In fact I think the end result was probably a bit flattering to West Coast. The difference should have been more, and it will be once the playmakers get a bit more mature. But I thought the defence held up quite well.

Watched most of the last quarter with the sound muted as I couldn’t bear to listen when WC started to get ahead. But gee, how fantastic is it to see the North boys and Clarkson celebrate a win! So happy for them and for all of us Roos fans. About to rewatch the final quarter AGAIN with the sound right up. Go Roos!

Watched the replay sober and without yelling at the tv. Some things I noticed Corr was great at smashing the ball in the pack, Wardlaw works hard to get from contest to contest, X was huge, Ford was a neally player could have kicked a couple if things went his way.powell is a very smart footballer can get a kick to boot quickly
If we all click on the same day we have a good side.
