Sydney and Geelong are two teams that have been at the top end of the AFL landscape for such a long time, they've both taken efforts to make things more challenging for themselves this 2017 season.

Sydney elected not to turn up for the first 6 weeks of the competition, whilst Geelong have decided to replace their entire midfield group with Patrick Dangerfield. (I will hereby refer to Patrick Dangerfield as the Geelong Midfield).

Form Guide

Sydney broke their winning streak of 7 games with their 3rd consecutive loss to Hawthorn. Pre-game injuries to Lloyd and Rohan, resulted in unexpected games for Foote and Robinson. Mcveigh also got some action.

Geelong spanked Carlton, though I'm still not sure what Carlton are doing in a professional level competition, A great display Geelong was soured when their midfield was reported for a tackle on Matthew Kreuzer.

Key Matchups

Lance Frankin - Patrick Dangerfield.

Sydney rely on a dominant display from their forward line (Lance Franklin).
Geelong rely on a a dominant display from their midfield (Patrick Dangerfield).

Which individual superstar will drag their their team over the line?

Likely Ins

Who knows, i'm just a knob on the internet.

Likely Outs

Who knows, the MRP are a bunch of knobs.

Prediction

Sydney by 19 points.

We'll need to see who comes up. Kennedy, Reid, Naismith, Lloyd and Rohan, all uncertain.

Kurt Tippett is a good chance to come in for Naismith. And it could be Jordan Dawson's turn, if both Kennedy and Lloyd are unavailable. Would be good if Harry Cunningham was available.

Zak Jones to get a run-with role on Dangerfield? Skilled is a long narrow ground. Outside speed is important.

Round 20 fixtures aren't too bad from a Swans viewpoint. Will make it even sweeter when we win.

The MRP might do us a favour and suspend Dangerfield for the tackle on Kruezer, who after all was concussed: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-29/dangers-brownlow-worry-big-tackle-kos-kreuzer
But they generally look after Brownlow favourites.

I didn't get to see the Hawthorn game - which I'm now grateful for, it sounded just too painfully irritating - but how the **** do the coaches pick Jordan Foote to take as a travelling emergency when they had every reserves player to pick from to bring to Melbourne on their bye weekend. I'm sure that selection didn't solely decide the outcome but what a dumb move to pick maybe the 8th or 9th best player we have in the reserves currently rather than Dawson or Marsh.

Anyway, appears we're gonna be a little depleted this week and we've seen that we need our best players available to compete well so I'm a little hesitant about this game. If we had our full strength side in I'd be very very confident of a win as I think we're just a better side than Geelong at our best.

I don't think it's a terrible thing to go in with a small forward line against the Cats though, if Sinclair and Reid are both unable to play. Franklin out would be a massive blow but if he's OK, I'd be happy to play Rohan, Hayward, Dawson, Papley, Hewett, Heeney around him. I feel like the ground is suited to quick ball movement and speed in the forward line. It'll be more important for our midfield to win enough ball and keep it out of our defence. Because of how narrow the ground is, I feel like it's hard to switch to the other side of the ground as we like to do because there isn't as much space like at the SCG or Etihad. If that's the case we'd need our talls to provide good contests down the line and be strong in the air, so maybe we would need Aliir in the side to be another target.

Hey guys, have seen some of you speculating Kennedy is in doubt. He seemed to play out the game ok on Friday night - is there any reason to suggest he may not play?

Yes, his injury

15 touches in the whole game would suggest he was very sore and limited his impact. Too early to tell whether he'll be right this week but personally I reckon he might miss

JPK is on Game Day this morning saying "scan tomorrow". He does not sound confident.

Thanks.

FWIW I hope he plays. We have struggled against you guys of late (understatement of the year) and I want us to test ourselves against the Swans' best.

Good attitude.

Hope Danger gets rubbed out ;)

Edit: not really. I'd hate the uncertainty of playing you in the finals plus Danger if we beat you without him on Friday.

Dangerfield goes, concussed Kreuzer and extremely similar to McCarthy tackle. If the AFL want consistency and the MRP want consistency...he's gone! There's nothing wrong with Franklin hit either, it's a media beat up while Dangerfield is a beat down!

Except the AFL and the MRP have proven they only kinda-sorta-not-really want consistency when it comes to their Brownlow favourites. The tackle in question is not suspendable but others have gone for it, Dangerfield should too. Same as Hodge.

In the "which clubs are your best friends" threads, I always say Geelong and Brisbane.

I hope we will win away, but it will be nothing personal between our clubs. Enormous respect for the Cats, club and players.

Swans have been my second fave team since I was a kid. I may or may not have gone to the 2012 grand final in a Sydney scarf....

Respect is mutual.

United in a hatred of hawthorn i often find with cats fans

I reckon Naismith is going to be out as he was really struggling so Tippett definitely in. Sinclair maybe half a chance particularly if Reid is still sore and his ankle injury isn't too bad. Dawson may finally get a run if JPK misses. Hopefully Rohan and LLoyd will both be Ok to come back in. Essential that we don't bomb the ball forward this week even if Sinclair is in the vicinity. We can definitely win this as our game style matches well against Geelong. JPK will be a big hole to fill though the rest we can probably cover.
