Is it worth resting Goody, Edwards and possibly Rutten this week? These three will be critical come finals. I know it's extreme but desperate times call for desperate measures. We just can't afford anymore injuries to key players.

I wouldn't mind seeing those guys rested. Goodwin and Edwards in particular have copped a hammering in the second half of the season.

We don't exactly have any form to flirt with do we? :p

Okay, it sounds like Kenny, Bass & Mass will come up for this week, so here is my team:

In: McGregor, Torney, Massie, Porplyzia
Out: Hentschel, Hart, McLeod, Reilly

B: Johncock, Rutten, Bassett
HB: Torney, Bock, van Berlo
C: Doughty, Goodwin, Mattner
HF: Thompson, Perrie, Douglas
F: Bode, Welsh, McGregor
R: Clarke, Shirley, Edwards
I: Biglands, Massie, Porplyzia, Knights

Knights is out with a quad but that’s about right. Maybe Stevens instead of Massie if he doesn’t come up

Whaa?

Heard 20 minutes ago that he got through the whole training session and should line up on Saturday?
He got through the training session. He did everything and he is fine but apparently club has decided to rest him this week so he is ready to go for the first final. He was in the studio on 5AA and thats the gist of the conversation that I got.

He won't play this week.

So Stevens should be a direct replacement for Hentschel then? Or Bock up forward and Stevens back.

Already the definite outs are: Hentschel, Hart, Knights, McLeod.

I'd expect the replacements to be from Massie, Stevens, Torney, Poplyzia and Hudson.

I like the idea of Biglands being thrown forward to crash and bash with Welsh along side him in the goal square. Perrie and Stevens as the roaming talls at half forward. Edwards spending a lot of time in the forward line this weekend and Bode doing his usual crumbing.

Give Hudson a game this weekend. His determination and white line fever is sure to bring out more in players like Reilly, Doughty, Massie etc. Hudson not getting off the ground is a myth. I watched him live last Saturday and he beat Parry, who has the best leap and is one of the best (and most AFL like) ruckman in the SANFL.

So you'd go 3 rucks or 2 ? If 2, who would you drop ?

I'd go 3, clarke and hudson rotating off the bench. Biglands to use his bulk to clear some space up forward. Perhaps even at CHF, just lock him away for 3 days in the video room with old tapes of Earl Spalding. Bode told to never venture more than 10 steps from his feet.

If it didn't work, Biglands would be the one in danger for the first final. provided the signs from Hudson were good. for me anyway.

I reckon you've got the right players - it's just a question of the mix, isn't it.

Massie and Torney cover Hart and Macca - almost a given, you'd think.

Porplyzia in for Knights - almost another given IMO.

That brings us down to the biggest decision of the day.

Is it Stevens to CHB and Bock to the forward line?

Or is it Huddo in and Biglands to CHF??

Personally I'm torn between the 2 options, and damn delighted it's not my call. The right decision will probably bring no praise, but the wrong decision will guarantee criticism.

Good luck to the coaching staff!! :)

Given the result of this game has no bearing on our ladder position, you'd think that if Hudson was played, a more informed decision could be made as to whether or not he should be part of our finals campaign, so that is probably the path I'd take. You're right though, whatever way the coaching staff go, it will draw criticism from many.

Gee. Zuz.

No wonder your team stunk that day. Can you bring over your 2005 team please? No sense risking any of those other guys... :D

How about a counter offer

We'll leave out Godfrey, you leave out Bode:D

Thank me after the match

I am not a fan of Hudson playing this year , but I wont criticise the club if they select him
In my heart I think we need him to play, but likewise to you, I won't criticise the club if he does not play, for they know what is happening. Bode and Biglands could certainly work, especially with Biggy's knack for the goals on the run, from 50 out on the boundary. A dysfunctional forward line will always beat no forward line.

With four "OUTS" already this week, courtesy of injury/illness, I can't see any of these guys getting a rest. Ideally they would be rested, but 5+ changes is just too many with finals only one week away.

It's an interesting situation this week. Not much to play for in terms of ladder position - only a chance to possibly influence who our opponent might be in the first week of the finals. There are too many variables to entertain trying to manipulate that with even a chance that we may finish in top spot.

I think we need to use this week to put last week behind us - if that makes sense. Put the loss to the Powers and the injury to Trent into the past.

I have been thinking that our destiny for this year will be decided to an extent in the first week of the finals. If we can win that game - 2 weeks later in a Prelim there is a freaky chance that Macca, Roo, and Burton could be very close to playing. Most of our eggs therefore need to go into the Qualifying Final basket.

If we are to compete over the next few weeks - we are going to need the likes of McGregor, Bassett, Biglands (who is still under a cloud IMO), and Massie all fat fit and firing for the Qually.

Why would we risk playing Kenny with his hammy, and why wouldn't we look at giving Bass and Jerry Biglands a rest.

This would mean we could bring Huddo in for a no-pressure game before the whips start cracking.

This is not tanking people - this is using the unique opportunity we have to freshen given our wounded squad atm.

so maybe...

out: Ben Hart, Macca, Trent, Bass, Jerry Biglands, Knights

ins: Torney, Stevens, Porps, Hudson, Vince, Maric

Disclaimer: I am not completely wedded to this idea and the detail needs to be discussed - but I think it's an option to consider

"I think its an option to consider".

I don't mean to laugh but you guys are cracking me up with your indepth discussion on who should play this week and where. Do the match committee log onto this forum to see what their passionate supporters think about selection etc? Chill out otherwise you will all be added to the injury list having suffered heart attacks caused from stress.

You know it takes a bit of luck with injuries to win a premiership - unfortunately luck aint on your side in 2006. Roo is respected by not only Crow fans and I would love to see him skipper a premiership team.

A win against the Dees this week is an absolute must for you guys to restore some confidence.
