He has managed to have some serviceable games in 2023 which is a credit to him and his competitive spirit but as I have posted before his form leading into the Easter tragedy of 2022 was very poor.

He has lost speed in both his legs and his brain - watch how many times he gets caught with the ball or is pressured to the point that he puts a mate under the pump.

He definitely earned a pile of brownie points and he used up a heap in 2022, more in 2023 please don’t dip into more in 2024.

Sloane in has genuinely pissed me off so bad and ruined any excitement I had for this match, what a weak ******* move in such an important game. Every other player in our midfield deserve better than him and he bogs all of their efforts down when he’s in there. Maybe I’m crazy but I’m almost reaching the same levels of despondency Port fans have for Hinkley when it comes to Sloane’s potential new contract

It’s bad enough we could have seen Crouch play like this earlier in the season if it weren’t for Sloane hogging a spot in the midfield but the theory that the two of them cannot work in tandem together because Crouch needs quality, pacy mids around him to get that kind of performance out of him absolutely holds weight I’m sure, and if it all goes to s**t Saturday, who do you think they’re dropping out of those two, who’ll become the scapegoat?

Literally who outside of the club and delusional fans has rated Sloane’s performance this year outside of a good final quarter here and there??? The servitude towards him beggars belief

Sloane was good as the sub last week, why would you think he would be dropped?

Rachele was poor except for a couple of nice things in the last half.

Players like Sloane just aren't there for on field performance and getting 30 disposals, its about setting the standard at training, showing young players how to play the game, giving them someone experienced to speak with, giving advice, media work, setting yourself up in life etc.

Saying that Matt Crouch was held back because Sloane was "hogging a spot in the midfield" is just ridiculous.

Can't they do all this stuff without playing?

Very puzzling selections.would have to be the slowest team we have put out all year. Tipped us earlier in the week but have now changed. I really can’t see how a one paced team like this can beat Brisbane . Once again the clear message from nicks is he doesn’t trust the kids!

Most would have been ok with him being retained as a sub. He can impact still in that way . He isn’t really up to a full afl game anymore. That’s the issue.

Most of your reasons are off field things. Shouldn’t be the reason for getting a full game

You don’t think Pedlar should have come in ?

Thats fine… But… why isnt the same rule applied to senior players like Murph?..

why do our youth get shafted and held to a higher standard than our senior players?..

its should be the other way around.. but thats this arse backward club for ya..

quiet games from juniors should be expected.. quiet games from senior players shouldn't be accepted.
Well Murphy at least runs both ways regardless even when it doesn't look like he is going to get a stat out of it

We've made it abundantly clear this season and previous seasons that we don't use selection as a way of teaching lessons.

The thinking will be as simple as "Sloane offers more than Rachele or any of the available SANFL options at the moment" and that's it.
That's been the frustrating thing all year with the coaches.
They believe anyone in the sanfl isn't up to it until they have been forced to make a change.
They didn't think Crouch, Keene, Nankervis, Borlase and Cook have been afl standard but when they have been given an opportunity, they have all shown signs that they can play at the level.
So supporters lose faith in the judgement of the coaches because they have seemed to make many bad calls on players

Yep, definitely agree he should be the sub.

Sloane for Jones is a strange one. How would Cook be feeling that a cooked Sloane is being picked over him.

I kind of agree. Not so much in the "how would one middling prospect in our system feel" sense, but as a team who is clearly reliant on their outside game weakening it. Just seems a strange call to make.

Though, I guess Sloane could replicate what Jones brings for the most part at a pinch, seeing we're not much of a running side. Even then though, so could players like Cook, Soglio, Nankervis etc.

If the game is tight and in the balance and Rachele comes in late in the 3rd, it could be a masterstroke move.

He definitely will inject energy into the team.

I mean, that is certainly one thing I didn't consider when I said it didn't make sense. Having someone who is that much of a gamechanger fresh for a quarter could really move the needle.

Based on the Gold Coast game yep, but I disagree on the rest. Murphy has equally had s**t games, only recently 4 touches against Essendon and 7 against Collingwood.

Rach is on the left:

Murphy gets way too much leeway for an average player with no upside. I’d back Rach to bounce back and Murphy is due for his customary run of poor games after a good one.

Agree, we know that Murphy won’t get any better and yet Rachele will.

Its not just that that Rachele will be fresh as well, he will have a distinct petrol advantage in the 4th qtr over other Lions players who hopefully have played 3 hard quarters against us.

Rankine and Murray are the two that we really miss from the outs. Two of our best players.

Yeah I don’t reckon heat will bother the lions given they train all summer in 30-35 at high humidity

But the short break coming off longest flight in comp might take edge off a bit , certainly no harm for us
I think we can assume now .....Laird does not like the heat

His worst 2 games for the year have been in hot conditions

Irritatingly, our selection panel appears to have a memory that goes back one week and no further.

Rachele was poor last weekend, no doubt. Sloane was good in his one quarter. That's as far as the decision-making process likely went.
Both should have been out.
