Yeah horrible umpiring aside I think the difference was just experience/maturity between the two sides. For a team that is so reliant on handballing, we're actually not very good at it.

Good signs, continuing to build, but still a work in progress.

Essendon after Ridley got hurt

i feel like without his composure we struggle to play calm down back.

another close game down the shitter, but we still need to look at positives. we've basically had a chance to beat all the top 8 sides we've lost to this year, just failed at one stage or another. our forward line is looking fairly decent, but i think without ridley playing langers will be put down back so our best goalscorer will essentially be out of the game.

our injuries are bad this year, but i think we're doing better than expected (or at least how i expected us to be doing.

But we kept on persisting and almost stole it.

Rioli is a **** and hope he gets weeks for that nowhere near the ball.

His last shot on goal aside, I think we can stop with the Phillips getting games because he's a ruckman expierement now. 4 marks and 9 disposals isn't the output we need from someone his size. It worked once against Gold Coast and hasn't had the same impact since.

On the game, once Ridley went down we were in trouble, Zerk isn't the guy to lead the backline (don't think he's the guy for our future either but that's another topic all together)

All in all, Port kick accurately and we lose by 5-6 goals

**** knows how we got that close after being out on our feet for so long but good on them, they had a dip and went again when pretty well everyone knew it was a lost cause.

Draper needs another pre-season and needs to spend it running. Went missing in the middle of the game. No coincidence that when he reemerged we started controlling again.

It’s a mid table performance by a mid table side. Given last year it would likely have been a 60 point dicking after we curl up in foetal position at quarter time I’m just enjoying the improvement.

Agreed, the fellas played hard right until the end whereas previous sides wouldn't have bothered showing up after 3QT. The effort was there, even if the skills and personnel aren't quite.

We've been full of excuses for the last 20 years. I'm sick of excuses.

We’re not good enough but there is improvement in the mental will to try and stick with it.

Obviously need a lot more consistency and our fitness is found out against the best teams.

We have talent and a decent coach it seems so that’s a start.

We really need our talent over 196cm to start being fit and getting match time.
