How long do we persist with Jones? Does he keep getting games because of the price we paid for him?
He’s had one game out of the box against the bulldogs, other than that he’s been trash.
He shows zero football nous and that’s not something that can be improved.

Ok we got one in Rachelle but still amazed how Hamish still our head recruiter as after losing top players for draft picks, finishing bottom and near there for few years .
Our first and 2 nd round picks and had so many off has been terrible.
Jones and McHenry in that super draft .Wow . Have try to keep faith in Jones because a lit bit of speed and skills but not happening.
McHenry loved on here plays with massive energy but too small to provide a target and seems to get too excited when has opportunity and fumbles ,and that's forgetting all stupid frees etc . As a fwd Rachelle will kick more in 2 games than he has in a year and half.
Then another so called success coaches and posters Milera and lets hit reality apart from some evasive gems at times when played, what has he done.
Others waiting waiting on but what have we got for all those 2 first round picks and jury out on if Nicks got it but if rebuilding have to rely on recruiters to get it right.

I can’t be alone in thinking that Crouch and Keays were the least of our issues? Crouch did well as a pure extractor, great hands in close, while Keays just seemed to be involved in so many passages of play, with GOOD decision making to boot

Sloane is the one that’s just a pure net negative out there at this point. Schoenberg was today too, but he’ll come good. ROB having a mare wasn’t ideal either, our mids actually did reasonably well considering he couldn’t seemingly tap it to advantage today
Maybe a controversial statement on this Board, but I think that Mackay would have offered more than Sloane this year. While obviously never a star, there were few signs in Mackay tapering off. Whereas Sloane is cooked to a cinder.

Hopefully this means the end of Murphy in the fowardline.

Defensive pressure/ability should be a clear distant second to offensive ability in the small forward role - I don't know why the club can't understand this.

Look what Rachele did for us.

We seem to have grown an obsession with defensive capabilities in forwards as a sport to be honest.

I also hope we are seeing the back of that trend.

I was pretty numb after that game yesterday.. but not surprised.. i had $25 in my sportsbet account and when the crows were up by 13 points i put that 25 on Freo to win at $4.50.. i only wish i waited a minute when we got to 19 points up and freo got out to $7. That was just a typical crows performance. We got teased.. that 3rd quarter was up there with what we watched in round 1 last year. you should not go on and lose at home with 10mins to go and you have a lead of 19pts. Rachele's performance deserved a win... that was probably the best first game a kid has played in Crows colours.
Now, that first half was sickening.. that was not AFL standard. The only players that could hold their head high at half time were Rowe & Rachele. I am very fearful after looking at our fixture up until Round 10 that we could go 1-9...
Himmelberg should never play again for us, time to play McAsey to actually see if he can play, Jones is skating on thin ice, Mcpherson is terrible, Mchenry gives us nothing, Fog doesnt get enough of the ball.. if he gets 5 or 6 more touches he could rip a game apart cos most of his touches result in goals and i am fearful for Sloane that he might be cooked. Positives: Rowe.. sign him up now, Murray looks like a solid player and of course Rachele. LONG YEAR AHEAD...We are going to go backwards before going forwards

You can continue to ignore it but we shouldve been 8 goals down after that first half. Only reason we werent was Freo ****ing things up for themselves.

Keays and sloane were utterly useless in that first half.. c grade levels of garbage. Anyone that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves..

Keays redeemed himself somewhat in the sceond half.. but sloane certainly didnt.

I will keep saying what I have for months now.. we cant have these two playing together in the same 22.. and when laird comes back.. it makes it even worse. Far too many weak links = worst midfield in the comp.

Shoey being out of form doesnt help either.

Mcrouch was pretty bloody good though… couple more weeks to get back up to full form and matty will be one of our best.

I reckon we complained about our pre season umpiring treatment. Then they over compensated today as a result. Now the media will blow that up. Then we'll get ripped off for the next 5 games. Pretty sure it panned out similar last year.
Maybe, but I doubt preseason had much to do anything with personally. Sometimes you just get the rub (especially at home), not always a lot of rhyme or reason. I'd say Freo were genuinely a bit careless at times but we definitely had the benefit of those soft ones & line ball decisions today.

What was with ROB running out of steam in the last? He could hardly run at all. We started getting smashed in the middle when he came off the ground with about 8 mins remaining.
It wasn't helping his fitness that he'd ruck in the forward line with both Himmelberg and Thilthorpe 10m away

The difference between a small forward getting to the ball first compared to second to the ball is huge

That's one of my all time Crows pet hates, along with our kick ins that go to the right to a contest.

Meanwhile he never seemed to get back to help out the key defenders - I thought Butts really struggled with Lobb.

Our set ups in the F50 for ball ups has been atrocious and plain dumb.
Even when one of the other guys rucks, ROB stands 10 m away doing absolutely nothing. Why not a kick behind the play? Who the hell knows, but we really are a bit dumb at times.

Quick question (and I recognise that we definitely got the best of the umpiring), but with 16 seconds left, McHenry tackles a bloke and the ball is either handballed directly over the boundary line (umpire looking straight at it), or it is incorrectly disposed of. How was it not deliberate out of bounds? Is there a reverse angle?

At least with Dawson we went left occasionally (and shock it worked!!)
We will have to train that out of him. Can't be taking risks like that.

That's not really accurate. The Bulldogs game was the only good game he had playing midfield but he put together some reasonable games playing in defense last year.

Still, I won't disagree that he's looking like a bust at this point. We really need to get rid of Hamish. His tendency to blow first rounders is excruciating. Why the club rates him so highly when his record is so sketchy, I don't understand. As long as he remains our head recruiter, we will never rebuild this club.

I'm very 'meh' on M Crouch. Does some good stuff in close, but you can halve his stats to see what his real impact is (the cheap kick he gets by running short and sideways from a mark/free kick is just stat padding. It adds nothing and creates nothing.)

How long do we persist with Jones? Does he keep getting games because of the price we paid for him?

I actually think there appears to be some raw talent with Jones, but his biggest issue seems to be that he doesn't appear to have a high footy IQ and his ability to read the play as a defender seems to be terrible.

I haven't completely written him off, but I tend to think that he's a natural ball chaser and unless we're playing him in a role that plays to his limited strengths then I wouldn't have him in the side.

Personally I would drop him to our SANFL side and give him 3-4 weeks where we primarily play him in the middle and see what he can do.
