Why can't it be Conway?

I'm assuming they want to split games about evenly between Stanley and Conway. Conway's biggest weakness is his fitness while it's Stanley's big strength so playing Conway more in Geelong on the small ground might make sense. I'd just be a bit surprised if they do it from round 1.

They can only pick one and Stanley is best available.

The quote Chris Scott in an interview about Jordan Clark back in 2019 "I'm not in the business of guaranteeing kids games". I don't think they have a number in mind for games for Conway that they would take at all seriously

The vibe I got from the article is that Guthrie and Rohan are much closer than this. He said Guthrie had an eight-week quad tendon strain four weeks ago and has recovered quickly. He just needs to start ramping up his training now.

I really hope you are right with Mannagh but I can’t squeeze him in unless he has gone past Bowes (for sub?).

Mannagh absolutely could add value to the team from what we have seen….but who do you have from the “expected 23” coming out for him? MOC? 2E? Bowes?

Forward line of 7 is “set” (if you have Dempsey in) as is the backline of 7. so it is the 9 MF/Utility that Mannagh needs to squeeze in and i have Stanly, Danger, Atkins, Bruhn, Blitz, Clark, 2E, MOC and Bowes as my 9 (including sub) so he needs to take one of those out?

Bowes was arguably our best mid in both pre season games. We have arguably the worst midfield in the league. Why on earth would he be the sub

I agree…but if they have Clark in then I think that is what he might be. I would put 2E or MOC sub (and Bowes in) but I am not sure the club will?

I'd be planning on giving him a debut against Hawthorn in round 3. I can't squeeze him in right now but we have a 5 day break after Hawthorn so probably want to manage 1 or 2 for that.

Of course a couple of injuries and he's in.

This is the most likely 23 imo.

MOC or Touhy would be my first sub preference’s because I’d prefer Dempsey/Clark/Bowes to start.

Can make a case for each EMG (+ Mullin) but at the end of the day as much as I want to see Mannagh and even Conway, if I had to guess the 23 I thought would be named for my life that would be it.

Maybe we will be surprised one way or another.

Time will tell, bring it on now.

I honestly think they'd be crazy to do that given what Bowes has shown this PS - and what he adds to the weakest area of our side.

O'Connor is a true utility, but is definitely not that strong a midfielder. Be interesting to see what the MC do, but for mine it should be between Tuohy and O'Connor - if we're really serious about team balance and ushering through the next gen.

At least we'll know pretty soon!

That's pretty much the team I selected, though I went Holmes on the field and Clark on the bench

And if one of those players you may have missed in the starting 18 goes by the initials MD, I also forget about him until selecting the bench players

My thoughts are that there’s no point keeping Touhy on the list if he isnt going to play.

Touhy has always been a better player than MOC.

MOC has always been around about the edges of the team, whilst Touhy has always been a clear lock when fit.

I watched them both closely in my second viewing of the Essendon match and MOC just was a big nothing burger (just about the least influential player on the ground), whilst Touhy was solid.

My personal view is to not even play MOC at all and get Mannagh in the team in some way, shake or form… but really who knows.

MOC needs to step it up or he could go the way of Parfitt for mine as some other young guys and hopefully some quality new trades push for selection.
