Totally agree but my concern amongst all this is McGovern. Seems to have a real penchant for being put up in neon lights and a real aversion for working hard to get into the game or bring team mates into the contest. He was miles of the mark tonight.

McGovern needs to get it more, no doubt. One could make an argument jsos could come in for him, though I’d disagree.

When McGovern gets the ball he makes things happen, and he converts. Opposition sides put more effort into him than they would Jack which helps Harry and Charlie more.

Interesting fact, the Bulldogs got Dunkley with a pick we gave them for Charlie.

I am very happy with the trade but they were the 2 best players tonight.
Is he out of contract this year? Throw a decent sum at him, prob not that hard to shake loose. Would prefer some one like this to the other rumors of Martin and the like

He also has a mean moustache that’s quality

I suggest McKay is more of the missing problem than McGovern. H does not make space for himself & too easily put out of the contest

Great to come back twice. Lots of positives. Many positives.

This is going to sound harsh but we lost the game because of Paddy Dow. When he was in the middle and at stoppages we lost the ball almost every time. When he wasn’t, we dominated. His 9 possessions, 2 missed shots at goal, 2 howlers where he missed wide open targets inside 50, and to cap it off, ended the game with a poor tackle.

Has some nice attributes but he needs to be dropped and play out the year in the Magoos. Learn how to play again

Dumbest most narrow minded post of the night. Seriously go and grind ur gears elsewhere.
The kid tried his best and to pin it on him is soft as butter mate

Few glaring things that need to be addressed by all that run out in the jumper.
Bring your game on from the very start, bring the ferocious attack this game ****ing requires at all times...
Be aware of allowing opposition players more numbers either around stoppages, slipping out the back of contests in numbers, multiple players chasing the one player with ball allowing multiple free players on their own, man up.
Tackling must come with intent an aggressive mindset every week, our application/ techniques and our chasing are at times embarrassing, it couldn't be any more frustrating ...
We showed in one quarter and the last6 minutes of the game that when you all bring ya shit we can actually do some damage... well done on fighting it out but that's simply not good enough...
Welcome back Charlie brilliant...

Do not know if to be happy or sad?
Happy to know the boys can fight back x 2 in one game.
Sad that we cannot play 4 quarters.
Really weird feeling.

I guess we all will be very happy when we can play out a full game.
Pretty much sums up how I feel. I didn't even know which players to tick the boxes for. Most of our players didn't work hard enough for a lot of the game, but showed what could happen when they did. Frustrating.

And thats the issue, he has all the tricks and more importantly has always kicked straight. Far better footballer than SOS and others, but as the saying goes.. "with great power comes great responsibility" this bugger at the moment is unfortunatly only showing glimpses of both. Needs some stern words.

70 fewer touches, yet 15 fewer tackles. If it wasn't for Charlie, we'd have been spanked.
Yeah that's a worry, and I would much prefer a more balanced performance, but the history of the game is full of examples of players winning the game off their own boot. I Only have to go go back to last week. 38 and 4 is an awesome game.

Just imagine how good SPS Dow O'Brien McKay Marchbank Setterfield Fisher Walsh McGovern Cuningham Gibbons will be after a Russell pre season. Then add Williamson Stocker Jack Docherty TDK Jones DeLuca as well plus some quality mature bodies.

We are getting closer. I believe we are just starting to turn the corner but still 12 months away from the consistency we need
I thought our capacity not to crumble like we've done in previous year, and keep fighting to the stage of being maybe unlucky to lose, shows where we are currently at. A bounce here, or a free kick there could have changed the result completely.

If we had have won by 3 points, the theme here would be devoid of all the negative crap that some people seem to take some obscure pleasure in posting to make them feel so much better in themselves.

The bigger issue we have is that after watching the NB's today, we have a total lack of depth....and it's not just after one game. Apart from JSOS, TDK, and the players on our injury list, there is not one player who is a lock to be on our list in 2020.

LOB is looking the goods. I Know he missed that goal but he is looking like a real weapon.
Has played with more dare and looks to be a shade quicker the last couple weeks, covering the ground really well

And that left peg will be an absolute weapon for us

Can play

Exactly, if you’re gonna blame anyone, blame Murphy. Had possession on the back of the wing with the ability to use some link up play to get it in forward 50, the way we’d got back into the game.
Instead, he bombs long to a contest and forces the 50/50 contest and a free against.

For a player who was bought back into the team because of his “ball movement”, he sure as shit butchers the ball.

in a nutshell

I like how we fought it out and someone must have been doing something right in the first half to have us only down by a few kicks .... to be honest the backline must have been asking for double time

but the disappointing thing is we looked shite for 2.5 quarters and it was against the dogs
The cats would have been up by 15 goals if we served that up.

glass half full:
1) Charlie cracking in and kicking goals
2) the run and carry game
3) Ed shutting down the Bont
4) Murph, SPS, Fisher and ??? cutting them up thru the middle just like most teams do to us

Started poorly then worked back into the contest well.Had a lot of players down though.Apologies to LOB and Levi.Levi may have found his spot and I can now see why Sos drafted LOB his delivery by foot is beautiful, even though he tugged that shot for goal.In the past we would have shut up shop and lose by 5 but instead we kept taking game on.Harry needs a spell in the twos or maybe next week will help looks tired.Better team won on the night however Naughton free in the square was game defining.

Dow does great things for a kid his age every week

Has become the whipping boy for a few bad games/forgettable moments, but he's young and for the first time since I can remember we have an actually young fast midfielder

Would be gutted to see him dropped

Dow must be dropped because playing him reinforces that his weekly kicking clangers and missed tackles are acceptable. I am not sure the penny has dropped for this kid that he is a mile off it, despite his potential. It appears to me everything is coming to easy " Here you go son, you have a few things to learn, so will give you some specialist coaching from Greig Williams"

I think the message may hit home with 4 weeks rolling in the mud at Preston that will self motivate to spend 4 months in a boxing, strength and conditioning Gym on sydney rd.
