Missing set shots when you have momentum in the third is a not negotiable. Not sticking tackles with years of games under your belt inexcusable when the turnover goes straight back over your head for a goal. Refusal for repeat efforts defensively...... If you need to hang outcomes of games on a second year player finding his feet then we have far bigger problems than Dow having a poor game.
This..

Crowds will drop because security will keep throwing people out. On that, why wasn't Stratton thrown out for his one finger salute? haha. Now that would be funny. Security jumps the fence and throws out a player for unsavory behaviour, should I say for being an unsociable Dawk.
this is actually a very interesting point. Whats the difference? Abusive, obscene, offensive behaviour does not only happen in the crowd.

Great to see that Murphy seems to be getting a free pass for the rubbish he served up for the majority of the game.

He hadn’t played for over a month, got into it after half time and had a really good 2nd half.

Not sure what people expect from murph now.

Some interesting battles in that match.

Thought English outplayed Kreuzer for most of that match, really hurt us going forward and Kreuzer couldn't stop him.

Looking forward to the day we have a ruckman who is an athletic aerial threat in the forward line. TDK pls.

Weitering and Naughton was a great battle to watch. Naughton is a ****ing tough aerial matchup, kid is strong and has an insane vertical. Weitering's body work was top notch, and Naughton's aerial ability essentially nullified Jacob's ability to intercept.

They absolutely slaughtered us on the rebound and through the corridor for most of the match. We could not hold our tackles and were too slow to nullify their run.

Overall, the scoreline flatters us, we were thoroughly outplayed for 3 quarters.

He’s an unrestricted free agent..he can walk or stay. Entirely his decision

I wouldn't blame Casboult for walking if the dollars were right. Has never given anything less than 100% for the club, yet is arguably the player our fans have abused most over the last 5 years.

What a crazy game of football. We were horrible, then we worked to ok, then we fought, we were then fantastic, then fell asleep, woke up and sprinted for the line 100m final style. We forgot that it was the Stawell gift and it was 110m and fell short.

A lot to be happy about in patches and a lot to be frustrated about. I want to give a big big shout out to LOB. I have for the majority of the season been critical of his game and with good reason, he has looked so far out of his depth, the last 2 games he has shown so much promise and looks to be relishing whatever change Teague has implemented. Good on you LOB, keep up the good work.

A shout out to Setterfield, he is developing and improving and today was a really good step forward in his development.

Charlie is back, keep working hard lad, you are pumping up the side.

Levi, bloody fantastic, if there is any improvement left in your game then you will play for a few more years, its great to see.

Negatives.

We can afford to give any team a 34 point or more head start so early in games, let alone get in front and do it again.

Tackling and pressure although it improved in the second half was ver poor early on, there was a dogs player at the end of the 1st quarter on our 50m line, in traffic who with the ball in one hand, given about 10 seconds to just dodge and weave. There was a total lack of aggression, which i hope is just residue from our old approach.

Whoever our next coach is, needs to find a way, when certain players are struggling to get themselves in to games, a way to allow them to contribute. Gov especially hasn't found the ball nearly enough, yet when he does, he seems to make something happen. We need to get the ball in his hands more.

and another week it could be McKay who gets off the chain and kicks a bag.
this must be a nightmare for oppo planning. One day it might be H, one day CC. Maybe even Mcg could have a day out. What about when Jones is fit? where does our new champion CHB play? Can we swing the big Clunker forward for a burst to stretch them even further, given his new found confidence?

We gave a 6 goal start last week & got away with it. This week we gave two 6 goal starts & paid the price. If there is any positive to be taken from this, it is that we got back into the game both times. Realistically though, the first quarter & a half was a terrible, terrible effort. To be down 60+ possessions by 1/4 time indicates very few of our players were working hard.

Not only were the Bulldogs predominantly getting first hands on the ball, on the odd occasion when we were in possession, their pressure was intense, the polar opposite to us.

I guess another positive we can take from the game is that after being 72 possessions to the worse at half time, this was also the deficit at the end of the game, so we broke even in the 2nd half on this measure. Ultimately though the Bulldogs got more possession from their key players than we did e.g. Dunkley, Macrae, Daniel & Bont all had more possessions than our leading possession winner Setterfield.

It was so pleasing to see Charlie really smash it out of the park tonight. After only kicking 4 goals in his first 6 games this season, he has subsequently kicked 14 goals in the last 4 weeks. Any suggestion that he had been overtaken by Harry was absolutely put to bed tonight. Harry unfortunately has hit a rough patch with only 3 goals in the last 4 weeks. With only 28 games under his belt compared to Charlie's 57 games, he has quite some time to go before he will be consistently knocking it out of the park.

I'm a bit disappointed that Kreuzer didn't grab the opportunity to take the game by the scruff of the neck against the extremely inexperienced English. It was only 2 weeks ago that Goldstein absolutely monstered English in a 28 disposal, 57 hit out game which led the Kangaroos to a comfortable win against the Doggies. I wasn't expecting this type of domination from Kreuzer, but he really should have had far more impact on the game than what he did.

Anyway, we head into the bye with a 2/11 win-loss record, having lost 3 games by less than a kick & 7 games overall by less than 20 points & having twice kicked 100 points in a game. This is clearly an improvement on last season & gives some hope that in the last 9 games of the season we might be able to notch up another 3 or 4 wins, making us a bit more attractive for Free Agents/potential trades. The nucleus of a good side is there, but not yet enough experience.

Disagree. It's when is went through the middle we came back in to the game. It's when we were tentative and defensive with possession the dogs had the upper hand.

I think we look a lot more settled game plan wise past 2 weeks, but it helps having more experienced players back in the side.

Just imagine how good SPS Dow O'Brien McKay Marchbank Setterfield Fisher Walsh McGovern Cuningham Gibbons will be after a Russell pre season. Then add Williamson Stocker Jack Docherty TDK Jones DeLuca as well plus some quality mature bodies.

We are getting closer. I believe we are just starting to turn the corner but still 12 months away from the consistency we need

And we have a clear injury list now as well, things look more positive now than they have at any other stage this year IMO.

It’s still not great, but the forward line looked better than it has at any stage this year, the talls were working well together, and another week it could be McKay who gets off the chain and kicks a bag. Still need to get some good pressure small forwards.
Totally agree but my concern amongst all this is McGovern. Seems to have a real penchant for being put up in neon lights and a real aversion for working hard to get into the game or bring team mates into the contest. He was miles of the mark tonight.

This is going to sound harsh but we lost the game because of Paddy Dow. When he was in the middle and at stoppages we lost the ball almost every time. When he wasn’t, we dominated. His 9 possessions, 2 missed shots at goal, 2 howlers where he missed wide open targets inside 50, and to cap it off, ended the game with a poor tackle.

Has some nice attributes but he needs to be dropped and play out the year in the Magoos. Learn how to play again
I'd say it's more wrong than harsh. If I was being harsh I'd say it sounds stupid. 22 players who went missing for 70 odd minutes is what cost is the game, not one kid.

Well if you’re going to take that type approach you could say we lost the game because of Patrick Cripps basically kicking a goal for the Western Bulldogs when he had no business going for a ground switch the way he did it and with such poor execution.

Or Gibbons and Fishers faffing their opportunities up forward. Or the multiple 50s given to them for goals. Or Setterfield giving it up under no pressure for a rebound goal.

Many things happened which could be the difference. The reason we lost mainly is because we let them get to 5 goal plus leads twice. You can’t win games of footy letting opposition do that.

It’ll be nice when we can be putting up 30 point leads in the first quarter and continuing on for good wins. It can happen.
