No one is getting ahead of themselves, it's just a lack of balance in views

Highlighting one moment over the course of 2 hours as to the strengths and weaknesses of either side, means nothing
We managed to get out to a 34 point lead after what was our best quarter of the year.

I don't think a 10 point win over the Crows does anything to strengthen his position at our footy club.

Didn't think that he was terrible (14 touches and 6 score involvements)

Sadly though he just doesn't look like he is going to kick a goal when he has the chance. Kinda makes it tough to play as a forward.
He burnt two leads from McKay at about 15m out from goal where McKay had his opponent dead in the water. Was quite frustrating, as he went on the barely make the distance and miss to the right.

I think Fogs is a genuine HFF, of which there aren't many genuine star HFF's. We are fortunate to have Martin and Fogarty as star HFF's. He is young, so a rest would do him well however I am genuinely stoked with him as a pickup. 8 spot downgrade and a loss of pick 51 for Fogarty looks to be a great trade for a 10 year player.

It was a much better performance from the boys - their attack on the ball and opposition was much better and kept competing all game. The margin was only 10 points but i thought, one of our better performances for a long time. Maybe the Freo match (adelaide were a more competitive side than that Freo game)

Can't remember who it was, but someone on Footy Classified was saying Stocker (among others, including Dow) was a bust a few weeks/months ago. Despite hardly having played a game at that point in time.

It may have been Cornes, not 100% sure.

If it was, I hope he corrects his statement, like he did for Walsh. Because Stocker's coming along beautifully at the moment.

His highlight for me this week, as insignificant as it may seem, is when he helped Dow up after he'd put his head over the footy (some might say Dow ducked, I give him a pass).

It shows he cares about his teammates. It shows he appreciates their effort. It shows he has the presence of mind to know that they need to setup for the stoppage quickly. It shows leadership.

There's something special about this kid. Everyone feels it.

Well a significant reason we only kicked two goals in the second half is we kicked 2.7 and probably missed another two shots completely or didn’t get the shot off (eg Betts to Martin)

That 2.7 should really have been at least 5.4 - and a 25 point margin would have been a truer reflection of the difference between the teams over the four quarters

I mean Adelaide could say the same thing. They kicked 2.6 before we even kicked 1 scoring shot and could've demoralised us into submission before we even began.

Not sure what to make of this game. We lost 3 of 4 qtrs and outside of one 10 minute period of unbelievable football it was an arm wrestle that Adelaide were probably slightly ahead of, kicking 5.7 to our 2.7 aside from that qtr - including a 0.6 run. If they kick accurate early the rest of the game probably looks a bit different.
As it would if we had kicked some of our relatively easy five shots in the last quarter.

Many games fluctuate in that manner, we see them every week.

Crows best form this year, has beaten the likes of the Cats and Demons, despite being inconsistent, similar to us last year

The result doesn't strengthen, nor weakens his position

I agree that our effort was much better. No doubting that. There were still lapses in our game that continue to frustrate. You have to wonder if the Crows converted their chances in that first qtr whether that 2nd qtr would have happened.

Hey mate, he came back on after that run-down tackle and was moving just fine. I think it was just a cramp. He's a different beast, very explosive athlete. Seems to cramp up after explosive efforts like that quite often.

I think maybe was an "errant back heel" which may have got him "somewhere you'd rather an errant back heel" didn't get you.

Yeah we were very lucky they didnt kick straight - could have been too far down to come back. They kick 3 or 4 of them and maybe we shit ourselves and its game over. Same as our misses in the last kept them right in it.

Those red time goals in the 1st qtr kicked us into gear (for once us and not the opposition). The one thing i will say for that 1st quarter, even though they were 0.6 to 0.0 i thought the game itself was quite even. They burnt themselves in front of goal while we burnt ourselves going into 50 - the contest in between was quite even

I have been a huge proponent of Martin as a small forward masquerading as a tall forward. He makes himself seem like he's a 195cm KPF sometimes.

Also, understanding that he did that on one leg. The guy has talent to burn and this week we used him to his limited capabilities and didn't expect him to run 50k. Wait until he gets fully mobile and with the team growth around him like SpS / Fisher and the like - yeah salivating at what can be done. Need the coaching team to play our guys in the right spots.

Both of those games were in Adelaide. And let's be honest, if the umpire paid the right decision in the dying seconds of the Melbourne game it would have been a different result

You can't keep pinning the result of any game on one decision or act, when sides collectively average well over 120 turnovers, not to mention taking the wrong option

Well didn't take a genius to figure out we needed to shutdown Laird

With Silvagni as the secondary tall yesterday, it makes me yearn to see McKay and C.Curnow together in that forward line - Silvagni gets to the right spots but he’s not dangerous in the air - Charlie will present and present and this will make McKay’s game even more dangerous.

Regardless of any perceived loss in athleticism, he’s still going to cause all sort of match-up issues, especially regarding the use of a third tall defender as coverage.

Absolutely loved the move of SOS as second ruck, I feel he could have done more as a mid when the ball hits the ground but that will come.
I prefer him around the midfield than up forward, just doesn’t have strong enough hands, speed and goal kicking skills to be a forward but has the desperation aspects that make good mids better than most

A few media personalities have suggested he could be the best player in the comp if he gets it all right. Malcolm Blight and Simon Black both sung his praises when he was first drafted. He is a true freakshow. Imagine what our i50 looks like when you have a fit Curnow, Martin, McGov and McKay in it? Throw Fisher in, who is an elite small forward and one of either Owies/Fogarty/Silvagni and you really have one of the most potent attacks in the comp.

If only we had an elite tagger who can run all day and shut someone like Laid down inside and outside the contest...

Happy with the application and endeavour yesterday. Felt like we had 22 players really crack in all day. Our players stepped in and flew the flag consistently yesterday. A lot more off the ball work too - blocks, shepherds etc. All the things that have been missing the last few weeks.

One of the key growth areas for this team is being able to put the foot down and bury an opposition.
Vs Hawthorn - went up 3-4 goals twice but couldn’t kick the next few to really put them away. Let them hang in until a few minutes to go.
Vs Adelaide - up 28 at half time but couldn’t blow the margin out to 40 and get the Crows to drop their bundle. Up 21 at three quarter time and really just had to nail a couple of those last quarter shots to end the game.
Vs Essendon - went up 5 goals with 7 mins to go but allowed them to pile on late goals and give them a chance with a few minutes to go.
The Freo game is the best we’ve seen in this regard.
If we can work out how to put the foot down when we’re up, we can turn these scrappy 2 goal wins into 5-6 goal comfortable wins.

Honestly when he's totally on, Saad can do things very few other footballers can. Yarran might have been of the few we've had that could compare, just a shame his career didn't pan out.
Great pickup regardless of the price anyway.

As for Crippa, he might as well just run 100m without a bounce, the umps clearly don't penalize him for it
