That loss epitomised what we've been going through for a few years now.
Playing people out of position, out of form and out of fitness.

Casboult shouldn't have been allowed out on the park tonight. He looked cooked.

Williamson, the hype train has come to a stop. I'm not convinced he's AFL quality. Won't get a game once Newman/Marchy return.

The gameplan looked woeful also, our entries going forward were devoid of any cohesion and skill. How did we keep getting cut up through the middle of the ground?

Finals is off the table already. 0 chance we make it.

How can anyone dispute we are anything other than a soft football club?

Have to hit targets, new rule changes punish us for missing them.
Cripps affected by the change in the rules and the speed of the game.
Cripps and Docherty not great leaders.
Pitto is a pedestrian ruck.
Ball coming in too much for our defenders to get a break and Pies targeted Plowman, not his best game.
Can see why we wanted Graham too, we still lack sufficient strong bodies.
Walsh head high and Williams good early, H and Gibbo good effort given poor delivery.
Hope players can turn it around.

>Setterfield had 9 touches. His opponent Jack Crisp only had 36...just has no desire this kid. I watched him closely tonight and panics when he has the ball, fluffs his disposals and then just walks around completely disinterested.
>Murph got towelled by a 2nd year back flanker in Quaynor. A major worry..looks like his time has come.
>Casboult looks horribly out of touch. TDK/McGovern/Charlie can’t get back quick enough.

Sad reflection of our team. Carrying too many blokes who are badly out of form or devoid of confidence.
Quaynor is a gun though. Made of the right stuff, compare the way he or Walsh goes about it compared to Setters, SPS and Dow and you can see our problems

You've got no idea about contracts and players being traded have you.

I know enough to understand that Fremantle is giving up any of their young midfielders for what we have seen from Cripps since beginning of last year, and tonight was another step in the wrong direction.

What’s the deal with Cripps? Looks a shell of his old self tonight...must be carrying something. No idea what he was doing tonight.

He also need to learn to be a role player. When he’s not playing well, when he’s injured or when he’s getting heavily tagged. Could have been a forward decoy or tagged someone. Part of this needs to come from the coaches...doesn’t look like there’s a plan B.

Im open to trading Cripps to Freo for some real good young kids.

It has occurred to me. He's 26 and seems to have hit a ceiling. If his asking price is around the $1m mark, we have some serious pondering to do. His value is declining though.

I'll take Serong and their first pick.

Yep we need the next crop to step up and willo, setters, Fisher, dow, lob etc haven't done it so far this year. It's where we will get better if we do. But been saying this for years, weitering, Walsh.....nobody else really, McKay maybe.

Fish shows a bit but not enough so far.

Yes thank god we got handed two number 1 picks otherwise we would be a real worry.

Lowlight of the game was some muppet Carlton supporter in front of me calling Elliot a weak f****t as he was limping off the ground. He then had a go at me for clapping him off the field. In what world do people celebrate an injury of a player, opposition or otherwise? Get in the bin.

Levi clearly underdone. Couldn’t make it to any contests.

Murphy, Setterfield, Pitto insipid.

Plow, Willo and docherty verrrry shaky.

Harry, fog, Gibbo, Walsh, weiters can hold their heads up.

Yuck.

Played well in the 3rd quarter and parts of the 2nd but overall a disappointing night.

To me the midfield was the clear area of weakness. Pitto did his best but struggled against Grundy and we just lost too many contests (again, except for the 3rd). Walsh battled hard. Setterfield seems way off the pace at present. Dow was better but also not great. Hope to see Kennedy come into the side next week.

The defenders didn't seem to have a great night but it's hard to defend when the midfield is getting beaten like that. They did OK against a huge number of inside 50s last week v Richmond so it seems hasty to conclude we have any systemic problem there. I've been critical of SPS but thought he was better tonight than last week. Saad continues to impress. Willo on the other hand is down, wish we had Newman available to take that spot.

As a unit I thought the forwards did pretty well for the first three quarters but fell down in the last. Harry had a so-so night but still finished with 4 -- if that sort of performance becomes his floor then we'll be laughing. Levi must be hampered with something, will surely have to be replaced with JSOS next week, or if he's not fit then OMac. Big thumbs up for Gibbons and Martin, and nice to see Fogarty get on the board.

A small thing I liked: seeing Cripps take the ruck contest at a couple of boundary throw-ins. Pitto was struggling, Cripps was struggling, so it was nice to see them try something different and have Cripps go the wrestle against Grundy.

But yeah, I'm sick of losing. Want a win against the Dockers next week.

Oh boy, this thread is off to a good start. 2 games in people. I totally understand the frustration but let’s not start calling for heads to roll
I dont look at it as 2 games in but 5 years and 2 games 2016 the rebuild started .
We deserve better than that rubbish tonight scoreline flattered us .

How could the midfield be the biggest weakness when you've brought in Williams as a RFA on 750K, Cripps on 1 million and Walsh on over 500K.

That midfield is the kind of money paid to people like Cotchin, Yeo, and Patrick Dangerfield.
Go away mate. Let us vent on our own, then we can chat later. I’d never dream of coming to your board after you lost to Hawthorn last year and missed the top 4. Just go away.

Well, we’ve got to make some changes. I enjoyed watching Fog apply pressure. I’m hoping Stocker who has a bit of C in him and gets a chance. Pity Kemp hurt his ankle. We really need some mongrel out there. And while Pitt tries, I would have live TDK out there... Too many blokes get pushed off the ball way too easily. We don’t seem physically or mentally prepared to impose our will on games.
To look tired and dispirited in the final quarter... in round 2. It’s damning.
I hope we can turn it around against Freo...

Past the point of caring to be honest. We’ve got all the skill in the world but nothing above the shoulders. Sick of this.
WE HAVE NO SYSTEM.

Talented young players are not being developed. Our coaching and development panel are bloody frauds.
Teaguey‘s philosophy of “bring your strengths” is total BS, went out 40 years ago. Talk of game plans. Questioned preseason and suggestion of letting the boys develop it, say what? I had massive hopes for Teaguey, but he is the anti-Bolton. One over coached and one under coaches. There is still hope for Teague, hell Buckley and Hardwick were both next to gone a few years ago and turned it around.

I am appalled at both the use of Setterfield and his apparent attitude. He has seemingly groomed as a predominantly inside midfielder and has been shunted. Our “stars”, read Cripps and Martin are given licence to play where and how they want, rather than in the manner that best suits the team and it’s balance and development. Murphy has been a superb player for a long time. (I will not call him a club great beside the greats of the past), but he is done. Walking him to 300 is so very detrimental to the development of the team. If they must, play him as the injury sub and have him credited with game numbers. It pushes our genuine high half forwards who provide both pressure and an avenue to goal to other lesser roles. (Martin and Fogarty the most prominent). Murph will still do some excellent work, but to many flaws place pressure elsewhere.

Not prepared to totally write Levi off yet, but play the form guy in OMac until Levi is fit and showing up in the twos, or until TDK is right to go. I have time and some respect for most, if not all of the whipping boys, but the mindset and team balance is lacking at present. That is a coaching and structural issue first and foremost. We need change, if not personnel, then most definitely philosophy and process.

Alot of players who at this point are looking more bust than trust. The SOS is a great recruiter is starting to sound a bit iffy

Can’t fault the strategy - it’s the execution that’s looking dismal.

Someone like Dow should be a season or two away from becoming an A-grader, like Cerra or Brayshaw are in the process of doing, but he’s still borderline AFL standard.

The GWS players haven’t come on as expected.

Basically our best selections have been Walsh and Weitering who were virtually consensus number one picks.

There’s definite improvement in the squad, but the balance is still off, and for all our mining draft picks we have very little to show for it.
