I reviewed the game again today and I just don't think I gave JACK MARTIN enough credit - flowering beauty!!!!! Thanks SoS.

BTW - how good does the Navy Blue jumper look, especially when we are up and about like that!!! Seriously we need to tell the AFL - flower off, like Hawthorn & Collingwood have done - we don't wear white, let the other 'newbies/hip hop teams' wear away strips against US.

Not sure myself on Willo. Looks a bit unsure of himself at times.
That happens when you have only played 18 games in your career and 3 since 2017.

The key thing that I noticed on Saturday was his strength, there were numerous examples similar to the one where he fed Eddie out the handball just before quarter time where he just stood up. Going to be a great player and will only get better in the next few weeks.

You're kidding right?
You think the tables have turned in one week?
Changing culture doesn't happen overnight or even in the space of a week. But last night is a step in the right direction
It has been happening since D.T. took over IMO.

There will always be setbacks (last week eg.) but our trajectory is as exciting as it has been for 20 years !!!!

Yep. GIbbons is first and foremost a mid. It was always going to take a couple of pre seasons to get his body 'AFL ready'.
Still a bit of work to do, but I can see him tracking the same way as Kane Lambert for the Tiges.

And I am loving the Ali Baba look.....the Genie is outta the bottle,,,He was our best in 1st half . he is a little beauty ! :purpleheart:

Last weeks thread was so negative and this weeks is so positive. Its a fine line between pleasure and pain. In both games we were the better side for 3 quarters and got smashed in one quarter. Sure the quality of the opposition matters but who knows where Melbourne sit at the moment. If last weeks game goes 2 minutes longer we probably win; if this weeks goes two minutes longer we probably lose.

This week was an historic win against a very good side but in the end we were lucky. Our inability to stem that last quarter avalanche of goals is a bigger concern to me than the slow starts were. Much easier to address slow starts than mental scars and doubt.

Sorry about the negativity - its just the way I feel about this one. I would rather be the team finishing hard than holding on by a thread. Or better still , stay in control of the game for 4 quarters - hopefully that is coming.

I love that we've put away that kick in where we just chip to the pocket, allowing the opposition to restrict us.

Now the players stay spread across the field and doc takes off and launches to 60m out from goal either side but opposition don't know which. Seems to he working better for us.
That rince and repeat kick drove me nuts, as you’ve mentioned we have a greater spread of options and it’s made such a difference with flow and movement...

learning to get in front and stay in front is still a new experience for this entire team............

I don't care if he makes a mistake or few, how good is it to see The DOC out there running around actually playing footy again for this team. To me he's someone that, like Cripps, would be someone you would walk taller for having around you.
Love him taking the kick outs, he’s pinpointed some crackers ..

First game back after a loooooong layoff. He looked rusty and got caught a few times thinking, but he was able to recover most of the time. He needs some time to readjust to the speed of the game. Most do when they've spent time away.

The thing I liked is that he has retained his strength through the hips. Tackles need two motions to bring him to ground. The rest will come, but moving someone like that when they don't want to be moved it is pretty difficult.

A plucky depleted side is just the kind of game we like to lose usually.

Hopefully we defy that trope.
Let's be honest. Pretty much every single game of the past 5 years has been "just the kind of game we like to lose".

We are definitely not in a position where we can afford to take any team lightly, hopefully we are switched on and punish them into submission.

Had a similar moment in the back half, stood up through a tackle, shurgged it and dished off to (I think) Weitering who cleared the ball.

Was a bit heart-in-mouth when he took a decent hit straight to the back in a marking contest on the wing (2nd quarter?), but he didn't seem to be discomforted by it at all which was a great sign.

that kick into the pocket made it at least twice as hard to clear our back 50 - it was a real sign of "I got nothing" from the kickerouterer...........

Connor Rozee showing exactly the difference between him and Walsh tonight.............when he is quiet, he is dead quiet. At least Walsh will contribute still on quiet nights
terry "list mangler" wallace retro-fit the 2018 draft with rozee at 1 and walsh at 2.............in hindsight, it's certainly rating as a superdraft..........

Ive seen a few re-drafts - its a sign of 'we dont have much to talk about' radio/tv.

my 2 cents - walsh needs to become more dangerous/damaging with the ball and not just an accumulator (and he isnt even accumulating this year)
