I think Dream Team Buff has it spot on in the post before yours. Not a snowball's chance in hell that Maric is going to get dropped in favour of Sellar.

Maric will be our number 1 ruckman against Sandilands so our mids need to back him up

Close.. Maric will be our number 1 ruckman against Sandilands so our mids had better be spending the next 2 weeks practicing roving to the opposition ruckman.

Maric will get slaughtered. No two ways about it. That said, neither Jacobs, Moran, McKernan, Sellar or Craig would do any better. Sandilands is just that much better than any of the ruckmen on our list.

Just like our win against em last year.

44 to 30 hitouts in their favour. Sandilands with 37 of em. Maric had 16, Griff 10.

But we had the better of the I50s and more scoring shots.

Our mids have been getting used to a losing Ruck for some time now.

Agree with these.

Also though we have to factor in the calf strain, broken leg, spontaneous combustion, ebola outbreak and death (bizarre gardening accident police will decide best to leave 'unsolved') that we will undoubtedly pick up between now and our next game.

I'm not convinced it will happen, but I personally would drop Maric for Moran. The other changes basically take care of themselves and are listed above by various contributers, eg Matin, Symes & Tippett in for the injured trio.

With the bye, Sloane should only miss three to four games, and as he is not sufferring from injuries that impede running, should only lose minimal fitness. Callinan should be available very soon after him, although would need to build up match fitness and form in the SANFL.

Probably won't happen but my changes: Tippett, Martin and Jaensch.

Jaensch to play up forward in the place of Porplyzia which will release Dangerfield to play more midfield time in the absence of Sloane. Jaensch is a beautiful user of the footy so give the lad games and he'll show us what he can do. The quicker we get 50 games into him, the better. One of our problems is the effectiveness of our forward entries so get the ball into the hands of guys like Jaensch around half-forward and let them deliver it onto the chest of a leading Tex.

Jaensch stab-passes > Symes' long-bomb, hospital balls

Nah not on the chest of Tex. We are better of kicking to his feet so he can pick it up on the Half Volley and Snap it through all in one motion.

How bout we don't bother to contest the tap and play an extra rover?

Sandilands is just freaky (and I mean that as a compliment).

Nah. That just makes it too easy for him. If he doesn't have an opponent to worry about at all he will just spoon feed it to his teammates.

If Maric can at least provide a contest (which he did last year, unlike Griffin in R1) then he'll be able to limit Sandilands' effectiveness. Sandilands will still win the hitouts hands down, but our midfielders will have a reasonable chance of sharking them.

If you want to see what happens when you don't play a ruckman at all, look at what happened to Essendon in the 2009 EF.

Ins: Jaensch, Tippett, Symes, Martin
Outs: Porplyzia, McKernan, Mackay, Sloane

Or if we go top heavy, leave Mckernan in and Martin stays out.

Jaensch over martin due to Martin's indifferent performance in the sanfl trial a week or two ago and Jaensch racked up 39 (and the fact that Jaensch and Porplyzia are similar players). Not overly happy putting Symes in for Sloane; completely different players. Dangerfield might have to have an increased midfield role to cover rory's inside work. Don't think we'll change the ruck setup; no matter who we put in there they're going to get flogged in ruck contests, it will be about reading them and making Sandilands work around the ground - keeping him honest by getting Ivan dangerous up forward and working back hard.

Will not happen, nor should it!

Also, Maric won't be able to sustain a match working up and back like you suggest. Doesn't have the tank.

maybe Craig should pull a Blight and start Davis in the ruck!

Davis walks out to the middle, looks Sandilands in the eye, shakes hands and utters "Payback is a bitch!":D

All kinds of

I can't see Tippet in for Porps and I can't see them dropping Mckernan

will they drop Maric for Tippet however?

I had been thinking this and I don't mind it at all. Playing two genuine forwards who are also both decent in the ruck is definitely a way around the inflexibility of the reduced bench.

I can't see why we can't play 3 talls up forward. At times on Saturday night we were too short when Smack went in the ruck. Because of his marking and mobility play Smackat CHF but with license to push up the ground. The ruck plays one kick behind the play clogging up play.

Look at Collingwood they play 3 talls. Most teams would love to be able to play 3 quality tall forwards. The key for us is to surround them with speed and a crumber. We've got speed with Hendo and Knights but due to injury and stupidity we are short of crumbers. The more I think about it the more we have to pick Jaensch.

out: Porps, MacKay and Sloane
in: Tipp, Jaensch, Martin

Whilst Symes give us grunt his disposal isnt good enough and we gain with Martins speed and disposal. To compensate for Sloane, Danger has to be played as a midfielder and he is due to anyway.

Better, or just taller? Seriously, if you're 8-12cm taller and 15-20kg's heavier than most of your opponents, you should be as dominant as he is in the ruck.

Quite frankly I think McKernan's performance on the weekend may have forced their hand and considering Porplyzia is for all intents and purposes a marking, key forward, it shouldn't affect the structure too much. If you also consider that Dangerfield will likely spend more time in the midfield with the loss of Sloane and Mackay, that'll also create more space in the midfield.

Besides, if you look at the statistics of the past 2 seasons, we win 30% (5-12) of the time whilst using Tippett as a 2nd ruck, whereas if Tippett is used solely as a KPF, we win 66% (19-10) of the time, with Tippett averaging over twice as many goals per game as a full time forward.

What benefit is there of using Tippett as a 2nd ruck, it only leaves us exposed down forward for half a game whilst either rucks, or rests on the bench d/t the increased workload of rucking.

I'd really love to see Craig give all three of McKernan, Tippett and Walker a shot together in the same team, allowing us to cycle between 2 and 3 KPF's. 2 whilst McKernan rucks, or one of them rests on the bench and three just to mix it up a bit and put a little pressure on the opposition defense.
