Everyone who is saying Curtin should play, did you watch SANFL last week or just look at stats?

So what is the argument against Dowling then?

Why have we been giving games to players underperforming for consecutive games, whilst not giving others a decent go?

Not sure what was more cringeworthy.... The selections or Adam Kelly's waffle about justifying them.

“We have made five changes this week, two of which were forced,” Kelly said.

“We acknowledge that our game has not presented itself over the first three weeks and we are pursuing our best footy with determination.

Selection plays a part in this pursuit, and we emphasise, it plays just a part, there are many other factors and considerations, and we are earnestly going to work on those so that we can turn our form around.”

Thought Brodie was decent in his 250th, certainly a step in the right direction. Surely no one could question Brodie in the contest throughout his career and even this year. His kicking is what seemed to desert him over the first couple of rounds, but was better against Freo.

Someone's watching stats instead of the game again.

I think we keep forgetting every year.... Nicks has already settled on the players he will play throughout the year prior to Round 1 and just keep rotating the non senior ones. Anyone outside of that list short of injuries and a miracle will not be playing.

Exactly the same as Pyke and Neil. Crushers' job is to keep developing in the 2s, not to play at AFL level.

Murphy out and I thought I would be ecstatic. But it aint the case.

Don't mind Butts for Borlase
Love bringing in Nank for Milera
Love bringing in Cook for Sholl

Hate bringing in Berry for Pedlar
Hate bringing in Parnell for Murphy.

Selecting Parnell over Curtin is probably the worst decision this week from Nicks.

Here are the top draftees games so far:

Pick 1 -3
Pick 2 - 3
Pick 3 - 1
Pick 4 - 3
Pick 5 - 3
Pick 6 - 3
Pick 7 - 4
Pick 8 - Curtin - ZERO AFTER 4 ROUNDS

He played in the SANFL last week and got 18 touches. Parnell got 20 touches.

So Nicks chooses the 178cm player we got in the rookie draft in 2021 who wasn't even offered a proper list spot in 2024 over a player who was widely touted as a top 5 pick.

Make it make sense.

That's easy, Parnell games - 16, Curtin - 0.

Recruitment, list management, player development, improving our coaching with better assistants and a better head coach if this poor year continues, gameplan, selection is where i would start if they want to improve. Some of these aren't immediate actions but selection, gameplan are.

Which player has a long term future? Dont you invest in the player that has a long term future? Players like Sholl, Berry, Parnell probably won't be on our list in 1-2 years.

Totally delusional.
If the fans have lost this much faith in the priorities of the club, I'm sure the young players have as well

It kinda blows my mind that Nicks has gone to Sholl twice (and dropped him twice) before going to Nankervis

Like what the * is that sort of thinking?
Dropped Sholl twice but he has been way better than Smith.
These selections are like a cancer in a footy club, different rules for different players give no credibility to the coach.

I dont know how he got through the interview process as his judgement is highly questionable.

Did Nicks not see what happened with Pyke and his play book.
This is the exact same replay as we saw only a few years ago.
Stick with under performing senior players, show no dare with talented young players and with a slow chippy game style.
Wont be long and the club will implode, just like it did under Pyke.
With Silvers coming from Hawthorn, I thought he might understand what was important in football clubs but the guy has NFI

Anyone else still think Berry could be a decent player for us?

It's a shrinking fan base

I'm still a Berrliever

Clean hands, tough, good tackler, decent mark for size, has a defensive balance to his game. I think he complements more attack-minded mids like Rankine, Pedlar could be.

Kicking...?

<adjusts tie>

I think our player development is so shit that I’ll answer this way:
  • Do I think Berry could be a decent player for us? No
  • Do I think Berry could be a decent player? Yes

Let me reciprocate with this question as an example: do you think that if we kept Stengel he would have become half the player he has been at Geelong?

Yes.

You could se Stengle was going to be a star. Should have played him and Eddie together. Unfortunately we couldnt or wouldnt help him with the off field stuff.

Commentators are seeing what we have all been saying, the midfield is getting its hands on the ball but our movement from HB to forward is worst in league

So the changes
The back 6 has been OK from a big defender perspective with Butts, Borlase, Keane and Worrell doing their part. Our drive from HB is awful and our Captain is playing terrible footy. So let's revert to Dawson at HB along with Hinge, both need to clean up. Smith to Snaffle or bench. Jones and Nank can roll through there as well (wish they would bring in Ryan or Curtin for some quality).

Midfield and wings is Berry/Dowling and Crouch along with a mix of Soligo, Rank and Rachelle. Michalanney plays either midfield or HB. Wings swapped between Jones, Soligo, Nank and even Smith/Hinge.

Up forward Laird moves to HF or Snaffle, with Tex, FOG and Burgess with Rank/Rachelle/Berry and this week Cook rolling through there.

This would give us a much better spread and drive

Good post. The connection is dreadful. I worry because there is no linkup from HB, to mids, and then support from HB's giving an option or run through the middle. Without that connection we're left with mediocre I50's (i think we had only 28 to 3Q time last week...absolutely abysmal.)

A key component of pushing your I50 numbers up is also defensive pressure in the F50, to keep it in there, or bring it back in quickly. We have a GLARING issue if Walker is the only one of our Key/M Forwards bothering to lay a tackle (1) for the entire match

For Freo:
Switkowski - 3 tackles
Walters - 2 tackles
Frederick - 2 tackles
Amiss - 2 tackles.

We had only 2 people in the Top 8 tacklers last week. (Soligo & Rachele with zero...)

No pressure around the ground or in the contest at all. There's just SO MANY glaring issues.

- No defensive run, no linkup DEF/MID/FWD, no F50 defensive pressure, no tackling, no speed and outside run from the contest. Add into this mix a stupid amount of turnovers and clangers, and it's a recipe for disaster.

Do you seriously think Nicks would have pumped the games into Stengle?
It's a fair point

He doesn't do what we value
Good skills
Goals
Speed, agility

Not important

Exemplary off field behaviour
Leading the pack during preseasons

Very important

Lots of issues at the moment but this is the biggest thing for me too. Forward 50 pressure non existent. In fact, pressure all over the ground needs to get better.

After a 0 and 3 start, Collingwood had 85 tackles against Brisbane last week. Adelaide managed...40.

Some things maybe beyond your control but surely bringing heat and bringing pressure is non-negotiable.
