Re: Rd. 6 Carlton vs. GWS Sunday 6th. May @ Etihad 1.10pm

Well, it seems that we all agree on Judd and Scotland and it may come as a surprise of both those guys are indeed rested.

Waite? I don't know.
I'd still like Walker and Waite to have time together to sync up their games along with the other forward stalwarts in Betts and Garlett.

It sounds a though everyone else pulled up well after last week, unless of course we had a training incident this morning.
If anyone ventured to Princes Park this morning and heard a loud cheer, then that may just indicate that a debut is on the cards.

Yeah I'd like the forward line to do a bit more synching too Harks. Waite's form has been improving each week and he really is on the verge of being the player we all hope he will be. A big bag on Saturday won't hurt his confidence at all.

On the other hand he is 29, gets battered each week and has not been all that durable, so maybe a rest would be worthwhile...

Let the experts toss that coin.

Re: Rd. 6 Carlton vs. GWS Sunday 6th. May @ Etihad 1.10pm

I'm not sure that everyone else pulled up well, the article seems to suggest the contrary.

I wouldn't play anyone that is sore, and that may include guys like Curnow and Armfield who were reported last week to be battling a little.

What we have to remember with Waite is that he too is ageing. There would be enormous benefit in giving him the week off. I too would like to get games into our forwards as a unit, but there will be plenty of opportunities for that as the season progresses.

A debut? Intriguing. Kerr and Dale would be the most likely, but Dale would have to be elevated prior. Kerr's name has been mentioned here a few times as a possible inclusion for this game. There would certainly be no harm in giving him a run on Sunday.

Waite wasn't aging enough for us to hold off giving him a three year contract. Plenty of juice in those legs, you'd want to think.

Ratten is on record that Bootsma will get a game this year, so who knows whether this is his opportunity.
We'll find out soon enough.

If anyone else is indeed 50/50 then they should be taken out of the equation for this week.

Completely forgot about Boots, he certainly may be a chance. We could do a lot worse than bring him in for a taste of senior action, even if it is only as the substitute.

I'm not saying Waite couldn't play this week, far from it. He'll be able to produce and produce well over the next few years. But at the end of the day, he's still ageing, and a rest here or there would, I'm sure, do him the world of good.

With regards to the contract, keep in mind that by the time the 3rd year comes around, I'm fairly certain only half his contract will count towards the salary cap. He'd still be a useful player at that age, so it was a very low risk maneuver.

Ellard and Bootsma please.

Judd to rest makes sense.

Waite looked ready to do something stupid out of frustration against the Shockers so may get a week to calm him down, however would rather he played.

Scotland also looked a little tired in Perth so a rest is not silly for him either.

Army and Curnow to be given time to get over niggles if required, otherwise they play.

Ellard and Bootsma in for Judd and Scotland unless injuries need rest, otherwise play as we were. Warnock will have to wait until injury or form keep Hammer or Kreuzer out.

Bootsma not ready for senior footy against the GWS? Why is that?

Beat me to it again.

Bootsma did perform well against bigger bodies in the pre-season and has not had a lot of the ball at VFL level, but has done good things with it.
Ratten thought he was worthy of games this year 12 weeks ago, so what's changed since?

Re: Rd. 6 Carlton vs. GWS Sunday 6th. May @ Etihad 1.10pm

Unless Waite is sore, i'm a little surprised he is in line to be rested this week. To me, he's the sort of player that needs to get some decent footy under his belt and sitting in the stands isn't going to do that. He didn't get alot of the footy against Freo and was beaten pretty well by McPharlin. I'd be playing him.

Re: Rd. 6 Carlton vs. GWS Sunday 6th. May @ Etihad 1.10pm

Anybody know how Bootsma's form has been in the VFL?

Had a fair game against Williamstown, kicking one goal.
Not sure as to how many games he has actually played at that level, having been out for a couple of weeks at one stage.

He's not really ready, but ready enough for GWS

Given the bad news with Rowe, you would have to say Dale would be first in line? but thats over the pre-season! how has his form been of late??

That and by the way the MRP seem to be gunning for him he will likely get an involvuntary rest in the not too distant future anyway.

Did I read on Twitter from ratts presser that Sheeds thought we are arrogant?

The honeymoon is over Sheeds, I had forgotten how much I hate you.

I hope we kick a record score against them.

And then some!!!

I hate the filthy prick. He'll probably introduce a player bounty ala New Orleans style for this game to take out some of our best. Would not put it past that dirty mongrel

Judd was down too. Could just be a bit of fatigue for both those guys. Keep in mind their limited pre-seasons. Good choice to rest them IMO :thumbsu:
