this is a reality post .. had a feeling this was going to be fremantle hiding type game.
on obrien i feel he is being coached to take second/deeper option kicks . ive seen limited live games as im from cairns. but games ive seen live he has done this instead of natural first option disposal ?

Takes kids different amount of time to find their feet. LOB will dangerous once the coaches release him

Could not agree more absolutely bleeds for the club and puts in 100% into every minute, regardless of scoreboard.

Which is a shame his ability doesn’t always co-incident with his work rate and endeavour... i keep thinking back to th first shot he had and if he just spotted that then perhaps we get momentum and the result may have been different...... who am I kidding.

We didn’t have the cattle to compete today.

They have a mature list and when you put them man to man against us, they almost gave us covered in every spot across the ground except Cripps. There certainly wasn’t anywhere to hide guys like Stocker, O’brien, even Walsh who have talent but lack size. They got repeatedly beaten up.

It’s just a bad matchup and they’ve smashed us 3 straight times. They might lack the talent of other teams but they have us well covered.
in the northern blues where they belong. kennedy and setterfield should have played with cripps obviously getting a tag.

Just going to post this again. I was expecting some bad losses soon (just not this week). I expect inconsistency. Calls for the coach as RIDICULOUS. That said, we should never stand for this disgusting behavior from one of our players. If he plays another game, THEN I will question the integrity of this club.

we have a whole bunch of problems right now. lachie plowman smiling is not one of them.

Murphy, Gibbs and Kruezer should have been canned and traded the moment this rebuild was put in place. Said it at the time and still believe it now.
...

So, let me see if I understand you correctly. You think - after a day like today, in which we were crying out for on ground leadership - you wanted to trade out what little quality leadership we have, to bring in more kids?

Murphy should be called out for poor performance, in a classy manner that reflects the blows he's worn for us. He has earnt that, over the course of his career, by always choosing us. He has remained at Carlton, despite the lure of success or money elsewhere, and unlike previous eras loyalty actually means something these days. You can try to say "He was well paid for his services", but so's everyone else who plays AFL, and they all move. Geelong would've killed for a player of his quality on the outside; GWS in their early days. St Kilda.

He has been smashed around. He has been forced to play as an inside midfielder, despite being completely unsuited to it in a modern context. He has been crippled, hobbled as a player, because of the way prior coaching regimes have used him. And then he gets attacked every match, for being unable to turn a game we lost by 10 goals.

History will record that Marc Murphy was a club captain and a good loyal player for the Carlton football club, and that alone should afford him more respect than he is shown.
Hawthorn released Mitchell Hodge and Lewis ...they were very good servants too...its just a game and when your time is up you should hang up the boots...important to get the timing right ....I think he best give it up at years end...no point playing him ahead of the youngsters any longer..

Some of it was just dumb but it doesn’t just come from nowhere. Players too often look confused unless everything is going 100% their way. If the system is poor or a team doesn’t know how to execute the system then players are more likely to make mistakes under pressure, perceived or otherwise. This is on the coach and I just don’t see Bolts being capable in this area in his tenure yet.
When we play well it’s mostly down to the players being at their best not the system. That’s a large part of why we are so inconsistent not just our age profile. If it wasn’t the same pretty much each week I’d maybe be a bit more forgiving but let’s be honest we see it time and time again even for periods in our better games this year.

Something is not right and it’s not just because we have a young list.
So let me get this straight when we win it’s all the players doing but when we lose it’s the system, interesting concept.

I have a feeling at the top level most of these professional footballers just sort of become friends with each other on and off the field and even joke mid match. I find it astonishing too, just a sign of the times, I guess.

At amateur/intermediate ice hockey level, once on the ice there are absolutely no smiles/laughs, only chirping of the opposition and restrained physicality (we're amateurs, after all).

Plowman strikes me as a bit of a strange person, almost too jovial and sarcastic for a professional footballer. Can't imagine the uncompromising serious types like Weitering and Walsh look at him with much respect.

Seems like an easy going cat who likes a laugh. Can't be hung for having a laugh, even in shite circumstances. As long as as what he was laughing about wasn't Jonesy's situation.

Agree, but the idea someone's making a career playing elite sport is somehow not a competitive person or not taking things seriously is just ridiculous.

It isn't a ridiculous notion IMO.

Some people get to the elite level of a discipline (be it sport or academia) because it fits their persona or they are inclined to be good at it for no particular reason. There may not be much in the way of an emotional investment, rather seen purely as an occupation or way to pay the bills.

I am sure there are many players in the system who view AFL this way, it doesn't detract from their abilities.

Hawthorn released Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis because their average age per match was getting to the other side of thirty. Us, on the other hand, don't really have that problem.

If our list is sufficiently developed by the end of the year, I'd be perfectly fine with him hanging up the boots if that's his choice.

...

Imagine our list without Kruezer.

I do thinks it's time for Murphy to play forward. He's cooked as a mid. Prefer Ed up the ground and around the ball. He will give everything and is still in his prime. The use of Ed at the moment I really struggle with.

Yeah, probably.

Their starting midfield was Ziebell (tagging Cripps), Higgins and Cunnington. We had SPS and Fisher in there.

Play Kennedy and Fisher can go to the backline - where he went in the last quarter, and his foot skills stood out helping us get out of defence. Probably would have held up better in other areas too.

Next week perhaps...

LOB playing to 3/4 time currently you reckon? He had 3 kicks 1 handball at 3/4 time and the same as most weeks this year. I’ve accepted that he won’t amount to an AFL standard player, doesn’t possess footy IQ in any shape or form.
Your last sentence is a joke right ? No footy iq ??
Come off the grass..

Media have to say something. 24/7 news cycle and all that.

Not really going to defend us here - today's exhibition was rather dire - but I really do wish that they'd be a little more imaginative. A comment like that is a self fulfilling prophesy; they're putting pressure on Bolton by making the comment.

well in all fairness, we are 1-6, just got pumped by 18 by 10 goals - which was flattering - and we have traded pick 1 on the assumption that we would be moving up the ladder this year. Not sure about you, but I'm pretty angry. As an entity we are not standing up to our responsibilities, and someone has to take responsibility for that. Who that is I don't know.
