Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

I didn't say they did or didn't, i'm sure they represent some indigenous people though, it's not like they're all voting yes.

Either way we live in an interesting world if white people think they can accuse indigenous people of being racist to other indigenous people.

Ok, and what's your point?

Pre poll question can I vote anywhere (in my state) as there aren’t any electorates to worry about?
Yes, they just direct you to another table.

I'm not sure why so many were attacking Aristotle Pickett for calling someone a racist?

Aboriginal people have to endure far worse shit, in a country they built and nutured. Not to mention they are treated like sub-humans.

Everyone going to the polling booths will have already made their decision, calling someone a racist or people hearing it isn't going to change people's vote.

I'm not going to be civil when I go to vote. The time for civility for me has passed. I think people need to grow some courage or stay quiet rather than critiquing from the stands.

More what was the point of doing so where the no campaigner might have taken a swing at Aristotle Pickett then get away with it/ cause significant harm to AP (in which case wouldn't get away but AP would be dealing with the physical harm/ trauma)

Well you're a w***er then too. In fact I suspect you'll just go in and silently vote and leave, then tell us about how you gave them all a spray and acted like a hard campaigner, yeah right ha ha.

I just voted anyway, was interesting to see the yes and no people having a good old gasbag out the front, good to see imo.

The replies to AP were not about his well-being, but the idiot above calling him a w***er, and others worrying about making the situation uncomfortable.

Peta Credlin is my queen.
LOL
Thomas Mayo, Teela Reid, Noel Pearson, Marcia Langton and Megan Davis are my heros for saying the quiet parts out loud. The No vote is going to win a landslide all thanks to them.
What do you think they said that makes a Yes vote impossible for you?

LOL

What do you think they said that makes a Yes vote impossible for you?

Why do you think people are voting No? Its because there is lots people aren't telling them, they know The Voice is only step 1 with Treaty and Truth to come.

"Reparatations"
"Pay the rent"
"Punish politicians that ignore our advice"
"Land and sea rights"
"Fixed % of gdp"

That stuff scares people.

If only the Yes side stopped pussyfooting around and actually said what they wanted and what it would involve they would have a much better chance of winning.

To be fair.

We do have self loathing types that find being Australian abhorrent, anti western sentiment etc etc. even on these boards. Yeah I know it's irrational and based on emotion.

That's a pretty sad existence I know, none the less these types do exist, so yeah it's a fair speculation that some indigenous people may loathe the indigenous.

Price and Mundine? They don't come across as 'self racist' to me, but they do come across as arguing the no vote in bad faith for their own ill gotten gain. Ok, that's speculation. However, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..........

So you are scared of a voice?

You‘ve been hoodwinked by racists.

You know it saying 'no' to the voice doesn't stop any of those things right? Mundine is even arguing that a 'no' vote will bring them closer.

We're literally only voting on the referendum question, that is all.
