Our line up worries me, not talking about age but I believe we are too oversized (unless we are planniong 1 or 2 late changes)

Frawley, Sicily, Frost & Big Boy in the back 6 makes zero sense when you're coming up against the Tigers small forwards especially on a cold dewy MCG night deck.. the fleet footed forwards of the Tigers are going to have a field day.

This is arguably the most crucial game in the context of our season. A win and we can go as high as fourth on the ladder.
If we win this game then watch the narrative around here change. The only problem I have with us winning or have having an honourable loss is that it will prolong the BB experiment. Don’t get me as I want us to win but like 90% of us want BB back in the ruck. I kind of feel like another embarrassing loss will be what is needed to abandon it.

Take out Burgoyne (freak who just keeps keeping on) and Poppy (who shouldn't be playing) - the whole "Oldest team ever" should obviously hugely decline, so I'm not concerned.

12 players being 30 or older is a significant issue.. that’s what 27-28% of the list?

Not a popular view, but Gunston just has to play back. He is wasted up forward with our ball movement and along with Sicily is the only bloke that can take that risky kick on through the corridor. We went on a roll the back half of last year with Gunston back and O'Brien hitting up at the ball.

I just hope we get the ball in quicker and allow Patton the chance to compete one out. Or ****, Imagine Wingard given that opportunity? Remember early on in his Port days he was just about the most dangerous one on one player in the forward 50?

Taking a look at the teams on paper i dont see a huge gap tbh, dusty missing changes our dynamic quite a lot (sounds silly being only 1 player, but its true)...

I think you match up pretty well with us, as has been said a thousand times by you guys you may be a tad too tall in the backline..... but if we bomb the ball in like we did vs pies that will play right into your hands and the height will look like a masterstroke

I dont put too much weight into your performance last week, playing at that ground isnt real footy and your mids will respond

Expecting a close match

List as opposed to fielded team is different.

I see 7 blokes 30 and over on our team tonight, pretty similar to Geelong, and only 2 more than Richmond.

In terms of list, I'd say most teams have about 25% of their lists of 30 and overs.

Dimma likely to send a tag to Mitchell? Is that Lambert or Graham?

Frost and Sicily would be two of our quickest players. Both can play on smalls.

we usually dont tag at all, but i would imagine if we did it would be graham

Yes, if there's one thing our backline needs is more height ;)

Not to mention he was our only multiple goalkicker and the only bloke who looked dangerous up forward last week.

I am still a bit worried we are too top heavy
Frawley goes to Lynch
Sicily or Frost goes to Riewoldt
Hardwick to Rioli
Burgoyne to Edwards
Sicily or Frost goes to Bolton
Leaves McEvoy playing on a Castagna, Caddy,Higgins
Just can't see how this will work
Would Clarko play McEvoy on Lynch or Riewoldt, can't see that happening as well
Go back to traditional
McEvoy in the ruck TOB pinch hitting if need be
Ceglar gets dropped and Scrimshaw comes in

The height thing isn't a thing.

Frost and Sicily are two of our quickest players and can play small. Frost particularly. Gunston is agile.

McEvoy - Riewoldt
Frawley - Lynch
Hardwick - Rioli
Frost - Castanga
Gunston - Edwards
Sicily - Bolton

As I said, we went on a roll the second half of last year. Arguably, we were a top 4 team in that time. We have added Mitchell, Patton and a fitter Wingard and Scully. Gunston played back in this run. I'd be surprised if he doesn't start back tonight as I suspect Clarko had hoped Morrison would have been able to provide more from half back.

Remember, Clarko moved Hodge and even Mitchell for a year behind the ball as this is largely where we generate our offence. He moved Gunston back last year. Clarko is happy to lose clearances so long as our midfield ensure these clearances aren't clean. We set up behind the ball with an aim to win the ball back from turnover and have Smith/Scully/Henderson pushing to the fat side . Our midfield were disgraceful last week and the cats got entry after entry of clean ball.

Spot on, especially when majority of those 12 players are way past their best is even more concerning.

Curious, who do you reckon is way past their best?

Obviously Poppy, and I guess Stratts (I'm still convinced he can play as well as he did in his prime, he's just been in bad form for a disturbingly long time)

Isaac was extremely good the last 4-5 rounds of last year — maybe not quite at his elite best, but close to it —, Frawley probably best season with club last year, ditto Henderson, McEvoy hasn't dropped off. Is that it? I personally think way off is a fair overstatement, interested to hear others' takes.

It's a tricky one, out of all the over 30's, I'd be confident that Silk, McEvoy, Smith, Frawley could still hold their spot and be very serviceable in any team.

Although I do appreciate the great value we've got out of a guy like Henderson, the fact that he is so highly rated on our list probably says more about where our list is at.
