AFL Autopsy RND 2: Loss to the Lions

I'm pretty disappointed in that. We were all over them and they didn't get out of second gear the whole game. That wasn't a response and if last week wasn't so diabolical that would look worse.

Tex has to play, small offering zero. Perkins has to play guts, he'd kicked 2 or 3 still and get a glut of the ball.

Attention to detail non existent, but I guess the positive is that we really smacked them in the mouth around the ball for the majority of the game until the heat kinda faded out of it and the shape around the ground was not just a shit load better than last week but actually genuinely good.

Gotta nail your chances against the top teams. Contested stuff was at least much better.

Hopefully Cox and Merrett injuries are minor and they’re good to go. Stringer hopefully better for the run too.

Too many guys that just have no or even negative impact. Ham, Guelfi, Smith, and Stewart aren’t up to it and we need to move past these guys quickly. Stewart is safe for now thanks to the injuries and inexperience of our other talls, but two of the others should be dropped for Martin and Wanganeen. I’d be dropping one of Cutler and Redman too, think we’re playing too many half backs.

At least the effort was much better. I’d expect the same effort against Melbourne with hopefully some more natural goal kickers coming in but realistically we’re looking at 0-3 before we get a shot at a win. Season could be looking over very quickly if that happens.

Just some deplorable efforts and skill from some of our recycled players but you do you expect from something recyclyed!

We are the best team at inviting pressure. We drop the ball, fumble, run the wrong way, into each other. Its so frustrating to watch.

I want wholesale changes. The season is shot, we are bottom 4, lets not **** around.

Smith and Heppell - can't run. they are cooked. both out. BZT in, Ridley can play Heppells role.
McGrath - soft as butter. Not a great kick, jobs from contest to contest without ever putting any pressure on. Trade end of year.
Stewart - I like him as a stop gap defender but that effort for me sees him out of the first team for 2 weeks minimum.
Ham - embarrassing watching him compete. no more. next.
Cutler - just not good at anything.
Francis - always Mr. almost. Just can't ever seem to do anything. He can go back and take over Cutler/Heppel until Reid comes back. Trade.

Season is shot. Full rebuild required. Lets roll.

I can't get mad.

Ultimately I hate myself for choosing this team.
I’m the same in not feeling mad as they play like I used to play. I loved playing but didn’t really care if we won or lost. I’d train, play and then take my match payments after the game (not that they were anything huge). Winning was just a bonus. It didn’t really burn if we lost. Not great on my behalf, but that was how I was.

That’s how I see these players (and most players post the Sheedy era). They love playing footy and getting all the rewards of being an AFL player but don’t have the hunger to be successful as a team as long as they get their individual reward.

The intensity around the ball was better than last week but you still see players that are shirking front on contact, Merrett's timid effort coming out of the clearance in the last quarter was a potential 2 goal swing. Cox has lost all confidence in his ability and needs a spell in the 2s. For all the midfield heightists out there we got destroyed by Lachie Neale who is shorter than all of our centre square mids

Multiple players playing out of position and it shows - I'm willing to bet a lot of money that neither Francis or Guelfi reaches double digits for goals kicked this season. Having reliable shots for goal is crucial for this team to have a chance against decent opposition

Smith is cooked and should give up his position in the forward line to Wanganeen out of sheer embarrassment
Heppell is being carried with his lack of pace and should be used sparingly this year

I seriously have no idea how Guilfi, Smith, Ham and Stewart continue to get games. No pressure, 3 of them virtually play the same small forward position but wouldn't have 3 tackles ****ing between them in 2 games of footy, it's just not good enough at any level of football let alone the highest bloody level.
Also Stewart has shit for brains and that's being really ****ing polite.

I know Draper is young and missed some footy but he just isn't good enough around the ground atm.

Spot on with this analysis.

Smith and Heppell were good footballers in their day. Time to move on.

McGrath should indeed be traded. He was the wrong pick and is still heavily overrated. McCluggage and Taranto have not only moved passed him, they're much, much better and are excelling in their roles. We haven't even figured out where he plays best.

Stewart, Ham and Cutler just, not AFL level.

Francis, all hype, no substance. I thought we were looking to get rid of him?

I actually liked what I saw from Francis today. Hopefully he builds on it over the next couple of games.
Just had to nail his set shots. Effort good. Did a bit of blocking for Wright . Finish not good .

Slightly better, atrocious kicking for goal.

100 point loss coming up next week if we don't harden up. So many soft footballers.
