EXACTLY!! You guys crap on about biased commentary! Put on the radio and listen to the non stop crows dribble! Not used to a national broadcast are ya? Next thing you'll want an all SA commentary team on TV! You can't have everything guys.
Your are absolutely correct - St Aussies give the most biased footy commentary of any state. You notice it, but not as much until you move interstate.
Its sometimes embarrassing.

5AA don't shy from the fact that they are SA biased because thats their market. You will even find that 5AA tone it down when they are on the relay to other stations around the counrty.

TV commentary should be neutral. Radio broadcast that goes only to a particular state can be biased. I see nothing wrong with that.

I can guarantee you the commentary biase never changes, when they broadcast interstate. I cringe

West Aussies aren't much better. Sometimes we get games on 5AA from 6PR(???) from Perth of a game involving WA side and some other interstate side. They carry on as much as the blokes on 5AA.

I have absolutely no problem with this. They serve to their market. Nothing unusual.

True, but I wish they would stay of national TV, as that is when it gets very embarassing!

Yes Perths as bad.
I must admit the victorian radio commentary is fairly unbiased. Its why you notice 5AA as much in their biase.
I agree it is virtually a state team playing in Sth Australia, versus Victoria, where there are ten teams, and hence a different emotional involvement.
However being professional means getting out of the goldfish bowl and providing an unbiased commentary.
God help if 5AA ever goes live on the net.

Agree 100%.

I have no problem with radio commentators being biased but TV in entirely different thing. Radio broadcast usually broadcasts into a particular state but TV is national. TV commentators have to be completely nuteral. Something that we don't get too often.:(

Interesting to see a post on Walls being bias against the Crows - I hadn't really noticed but thinking back he was definitely putting the boot in on the weekend.

From an Essendon perspective Walls has long been a bomber sniper (until bizarrely just recently when he started complimenting us last year which was very weird). He has a history of slating the Dons, putting down the players and constantly making snide comments. When the Dons were hot across 99-01 Walls tipped against them every single final they played (including the 2000 GF) and you could almost hear him praying for an essendon defeat in his match previews.
Much of it dates back to a rivalry with Sheeds when they played each other in Carlton vs Richmond clashes and then continued on as rival coaches. Plenty of bad blood between them and Walls has used every opportunity to put the boot into the Dons.

I can't stand the bugger and it is interesting - and a little refreshing - to see he does not limit his venom to the Dons.

Strange for such a cluey guy to be so bitter.

On a similar note but different media, what is the go with Rucci (alias "The Port Adelaide Propoganda Machine") so far this year? Has his summer sabbatical to Italy affected his brain?

Reading his report in The Sunday Mail I was sure that I had watched the wrong game on Saturday night. Not a negative amongst it and this was followed up again in yesterdays Advertiser. No mention of robbing the best forward line in the AFL to fill a hole in the backlines.

This mornings article really had me laughing though. He's turned a general comment from Malcolm Blight that none of the players heard into a personal message for them. What a joke.

You guys dont like Wallsy?

Geez, take a number and get in line.

The Bearded Clalm. The Paddle Pop Lion, you name it we have been calling him it for years at Windy Hill

He has been a pathological Essendon Basher for decades and as someone else mentioned, tipped against Essendon in every final they played in 99, 2000 and 2001. He was the only media 'expert' to tip Melbourne to win the 2000 GF.

Strangely, he barracked for Essendon as a kid.

Wallsy only has time for the Lions and cant resist an opportunity to take credit for the team's success under Leigh Matthews. He is forever claiming it was he who discovered Voss, Akermanis, Black, Scott brothers etc. If hear Wallsy telling the world once again how he used to pick Vossy up from school to take him to training I will spew.

Relax Adelaide people, abuse from Wallsy should be taken as the highest form of compliment.

AFL takes a beating
The Australian Football League is tonight coming to grips with a fresh scandal. A new documentary has revealed that 10 years ago, the then Brisbane coach Robert Walls ordered eight of his players to sort out a problem team-mate. The so-called sorting was little more than a systematic bashing, with the other players taking turns to thrash their hapless colleague.

---------
Compere: Tony Jones
Reporter: Rob Waters

TAPE, AFL PLAYERS' ASSOC, VOICE OF ROBERT WALLS, FORMER BRISBANE COACH: We pulled the boxing gloves out, we made a big circle and we put Strempel in the middle of the circle and we let him go a round with one player, and then dropped that player out, and then we put another player in to go another round.

ROB WATERS: This is the remarkably frank admission of Robert Walls, former coach of the Brisbane Bears, who ordered eight of his players to beat up Shane Strempel, a so-called unpopular and undisciplined youngster in 1991.

VOICE OF MICHAEL McLEAN, FORMER BRISBANE PLAYER: Absolutely hammered him.

His teeth were getting chipped off and he had saliva going everywhere and a little bit of claret.

SHANE STREMPEL, FORMER BRISBANE PLAYER: You're 21 and your senior coach tells you to do something, so you have to do it.

MICHAEL McLEAN: I can recall Brad Hardie walking over to him, he was the last one to go, and he said, "Rob, you've got to call it off "because you'll kill the boy."

ROB WATERS: The AFL Players' Association video has sparked debate as to what are the acceptable limits.

The forthright Walls stands by his call.

ROBERT WALLS, FORMER BRISBANE COACH: I was angry with him because he was just not giving to his team-mates.

I felt he was letting his team-mates down and this happened for quite a while and in the end I had a gutful.

SHANE STREMPEL: I lost all respect for Robert Walls as a person and as a coach.

I thought, "Stuff you, Wallsy."

He obviously wasn't going to get the best out of me after that incident.

ROB WATERS: The Players' Association says Walls's methods would now be indefensible.

ROB KERR, CEO AFL PLAYERS' ASSOC: I don't think the players would allow that to happen themselves.

The modern player is far more questioning and would be far more reticent to get involved in something like that.

ROB WATERS: Walls's arch-rival Kevin Sheedy resisted the temptation to take another verbal swing, but did say he'd never do it.

KEVIN SHEEDY, ESSENDON COACH: Life's changed.

You look back at what happened in the army, navy and air force and the police force and what happened in war time.

We all sit there on moral ground at the moment, making judgments.

ROB WATERS: And today's coaches couldn't afford such crude training methods.

TERRY WALLACE, BULLDOGS COACH: I'm not really big on our blokes getting out there and trying to injure their team-mates.

Rob Waters, Lateline.

No problem with this - it's the truth. St Kilda had the cream of the draft for several years; Adelaide's window of oppotunity is rapidly closing.

Don't just look at Walls - Mike Sheahan picked the Crows for 9th-10th this morning in the Herald Sun. I think he's wrong - we'll just sneak into the 8, but Top 4 will be a big ask.

Did you hear Robert Walls on 5AA tonight. He made it very clear that he doesn't rate Ayres amongst the good coaches. Middle of the road I think was his description, or words to that effect.

Cornesy tried to defend Ayres other than in the area of tactical strategy.

Unfortunately Adelaide and Collingwood are making him look like a genius at this stage. Still, the season is only 4 rounds old and things can change drastically in that time.

Did anyone hear him on On the Couch last night? Gerard Healy asked him why Kenny was moved from the forward line to the back line. Blind Freddy could see that it was because Grant Thomas had made a very good move in putting Koschitzke into their forward line leaving us a tall defender short (we were a tall short all night), but Walls response was "Don't know". Now if he can't see these sorts of basic things, he doesn't deserve his pay check.

It annoyed me as much as when he says he hasn't seen games from the weekend. He makes his living from this industry and is meant to make sensible comment on all teams but can't because he hasn't watched them all. Not good enough in my opinion.
