Player Watch Rookie Pick #45 (2015) - Dan Houston

The problem we have with the tribunal is its run and prosecuted by lawyers with no football IQ and defended by the same.

The whole vegemite jar lid analogy was horrible.

The top of the shoulder thing all came about for cases where guys had their head over the ball bent over... as such a hip and shoulder coud hit it flush. The top of the shoulder should be a non-issue for front on contact to an upright player.

The whole process is ridiculous. There shouldn't be lawyers for either side and there shouldn't be a lawyer as chair of the tribunal. A better system would be to sit Dan Houston and a club rep on one side, Michael Christian on the other side and then have a panel of three respected ex players in the middle. Everyone puts their case, there's no bullshit legal arguments, no acting like it's a murder trial. Just put your case and let the ex players come to a verdict.

Until the Pies or Swans get an injunction from the high court

PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley is supremely confident suspended defender Dan Houston will continue his career at the South Australian club.

Houston has copped a season-ending five-game suspension for a bump that knocked out Adelaide's Izak Rankine in last Saturday night's clash between the SA rivals.

Houston's ban rules him out of Port's looming finals campaign and comes amid interest from rival clubs in Melbourne in luring the All-Australian half-back.

"He has got a three-year contract with our footy club, loves our footy club," Hinkley told reporters on Friday.

"I'm really comfortable that Dan will play more games for Port."

Hinkley will turn to Ryan Burton and Josh Sinn to replace Houston in his rebounding half-back role.

"We're very lucky with our half-backs that we've got a number of players who are good players (in that position)," he said.

"If you just go like-for-like, Dan Houston's probably going to be a two-time all Australian by the end of the year so it's going to be hard to replace that.

Even if Houston is out the door, the club isn’t going to announce it whilst port are still playing finals.

Hinkley had no trouble deflecting questions on plenty of other topics, though. Could easily have said something like "The club will continue to support Dan, but right now my focus is on Fremantle this Sunday" instead.

Does anyone know the name of the barrister at last night's tribunal hearing? just so I never brief him lol
We have the worst record of getting anything reduced or overturned at the tribunal of any club. We need someone who can cause the tribunal judges to shrink away in a sense of inferiority, not someone who they can just laugh away. Where's Perry Mason these days?

Is the Grand Final Replay still a thing?

They really have to ban the front on bump if they wanna take this line, it's highly absurd to have a technically legal act copping more severe penalties than clearly high hits.

It's a case of the AFL just too gutless to rule out a long standing part of the game, they just wanna wait until it's coached out of the next generation of players & seen as rarely as a drop kick.

So Dan get 5 never been reported
Yet K.Pickett only gets 3 and this is his 4th report
Feel sorry for Koz, no one could account for Moore going to his knees there. It’s the whole protect yourself first and foremost gone out the window.

Yes I know Koz elected to bump…
