I know its way to early for something like this, but our trade week has me thinking up some hypotheticals with our Round 1 team next year. Ignoring the obvious importance of a full preseason prep, how close is this to a good starting 22?

F - JOHNSTONE, WALKER, WRIGHT
HF - KNIGHTS, TIPPET, PORPLYZIA
C - MCKAY, DANGERFIELD, VAN BERLO
HB - DOUGHTY, TALIA, VINCE
FB - JOHNCOCK, RUTTEN, OTTEN
R - JACOBS, THOMPSON, SLOANE

INT - DOUGLAS, MCKERNAN, JAENSCH, PETRENKO

I'm not going to do this...

I always get excited, pick a team without Doughty, Symes, Reilly, Stevens and co and dream of an exciting season ahead. Then I'm brought crashing back to earth when it kicks off - they're all in and several are in the leadership group. We go shit, finish down the bottom and sack our coach.

Not going to fall into the same trap again.

Carl,

Neil is gone. Things have changed. No one is safe. All 22 spots are up for grabs.

Bring on season 2012. Lets get excited. :thumbsu:

Bang. That's exactly it. If we are selecting the best performing 22 each week, I'll be effing thrilled.

A bit left field including our new recruits:

FB: Johncock, Rutten, Lynch
HB: Jaensch, Talia, Brown
C: Smith, Sloane, Otten
HF: Dangerfield, Tippett, Porplyzia
F: Johnston, Walker, Lyons
R: Jacobs, Thompson, Van Berlo

B: McKernan, Petrenko, Vince, McKay (or Crouch if we can get him to grow a beard and convince the AFL he's old enough)

FB: Johncock - Rutten - Otten
HB: Jaensch - Talia - Doughty
C: McKay - Thompson - van Berlo
HF: Porplyzia - Johnston - Vince
F: Wright - Walker - Tippett
R: Jacobs - Dangerfield - Sloane
Bench: McKernan - Petrenko - Brown
Sub: Smith

I put Tippett in the pocket to try and show that if we don't make him the focal point of the offense by putting him at CHF or FF, and spread it around, he'll get more 1v1, and could even float across and take pack marks, allowing him to have a run at it.

I wanted to put Shaw in there on the wing or HFF, but not sure how he'll go. In time...

We only do 2 out of those 3 things every year. ;)

Heres mine. Sorry Skip.

I think we'll need Doughty in the team next year. I could be wrong (I hope I am) but I believe he'll bring a lot more experience, calm and consistency around the ground. We still have a very young group, obviously, and young groups need a few older, guiding hands.

Still, I hope he has to earn his spot whether we "need" him or not.

Not going to bother naming a best 22. You never get them on the park anyway. We need depth to be competitive. I think Sando will pick a team based on winning contested ball and clean foot skills. A lot of blokes might get found out this pre-season!

I can't believe that people are leaving out Smith and have the likes of Martin in front of him

Not to mention Lynch in front of L Thompon and Johnson starting at CHF

Almost comical, some people get so carried away

FF: Porps Walker Wright

HF: Vince Tippett L.Thompson (positional change)

C: Mackay S. Thompson VB

HB: Jaench Talia Otten

FB: Johncock Rutten Brown

R: Jacobs Dangerfield Sloane

INT: Mckernan Martin Petrenko (Smith)

Petrenko has got to be starting 18, and B.Reilly play to play every game.....at Sturt....
Will be very interesting to see who stands up out of L.Thompson, Lynch, Johnston and Mckernan. Hopefully with the influence of sando smack can get some aggression into his game and start to become the player he could be..

FF: Porplyzia Walker Johnston
HF: Knights McKernan Wright
C: Polec S.Thompson(c) Vince
HB: Brown Talia Jaensch
FB: Johncock Rutten Otten
R: Jacobs Sloane Dangerfield
Bench: Smith VB(vc) Mackay (petrenko)

Emerg.: Reilly, L.Thompson, Doughty

Could force way in with a good pre season: Shaw, Tambling, Lynch, Petrenko, pick 8 ;)

Gold passes hopefully gone at West Lakes and Doughty and Reilly will be fringe players rather than first picked. The team above would certainly push for finals.

Would be better to do this after 1:30PM tomorrow, when all the trade rumours for this year are finally over! :D

Must.....resist.....putting team up....before Christmas....or at least preseason draft....must....resist....
oh hell..

F Porps Walker Wright
CHF Danger TIPPETT Knights

That's it..compusion averted....insert SMACK if insanity prevails and Tippett gets traded...for steak knives and a second rounder as some schmucks have been posting.

WOW, just realised how young our squad is! Callinan and Tambling are the only to fringe players over 23 (i think). So used to having an experienced pool of players to draw from. I guess we have no choice but to blood youngsters next year.

Tried doing a side but realised it's pretty much pointless right now.

What I took from it is that our lineup on paper (with everyone fit) is still pretty decent. I also realised that it's difficult to fit Reilly and Doughty in there even though I suspect they will be (the latter anyway). I also realised that I couldn't fit any of our trades in there, which makes sense since one is a draftee and the other two are currently fringe players for their respective sides and need to earn their spots.
