Milera just lost an entire season to a career threatening knee injury, after missing almost the entire season before that to a foot injury, and is barely back running now - he shouldn't be anywhere near the AFL in round 1. He needs at least half a season of SANFL to remember how to play again, and find out if he still can.
Half a season is a bit of a stretch, but agree he will be nowhere near it by Rd 1.

As you say, next year is more about setting himself up for 2023 and beyond (and proving too himself and the club that his body will let him do so).

Right now though ?? I'd have Milera every day of the week.

We rated Milera enough to give him a 5 year deal, if he's fit enough he'll play. Probably instead of Worrell. Can see Pedlar playing ahead of Berry too.

Difficult exercise these days. No senior players left that aren't almost locks to be in the top half of the 22 on performance and lots of kids that look like they're up to it and deserving of games. I just hope we see a deepened midfield, cease playing injured senior players and shelve the philosophy that our best outcome is getting continuity in a 22 that seems to be determined during the preseason. We should be at the top of the ladder for players played most of the year, not equal bottom of it.

State borders won’t be up come March other than possibly WA, who do their own thing.

The country will have well over 80% double vaccinated. Game will be back to normal with only proviso, if you are not fully vaccinated you can’t go to sporting events etc.
If WA are the only state with border issues come March next year, I can see the AFL telling both WA teams that they have to play all their games outside WA until their State comes to the party.

FF: McAsey - Thilthorpe - Berry
HF: McHenry - Fog - Sloane
C: Seedsman - Crouch - Dawson
HB: Smith - Doedee - Jones
FB: Brown - Butts - Murray

R: O'Brien - Schoenberg - Laird
I: Hamill - McPherson - Cook - Keays

Depth / Next in line:
Fwd: Berg / McAdam
Mids: Pedlar/ Hately / Pick 4
Def: Frampton / Worrell / Sholl
Ruck: Strauchnie

There’s a lot of depth there but thin on quality still. Tells me we can go for quality this year and next year might see some guys move out to bring in Rankosius.

I’m surprised how many posters are predicting Sloane at HF or starting on the bench. Sloane will be in the centre square at the opening bounce if 2022 and most centre bounces of round 1. He may transition to some half forward time, but it’s not where he’ll start the year.
Who will he be ahead of out of Laird/Crouch/Keays?

Keays will get shunted out. Ben will probably then take Schoenberg's 40% midfield minutes.
🤮

I personally am in the camp that Sloane won’t be a midfielder in 2022, but I can understand why some are naturally concerned. I’m expecting the rotation (when fully fit) to be Laird/Matt/Keays/Schoenberg, with a little bit of Sloane and Berry

If not, I won’t be calling for Nicks’ head, but I’ll be very concerned

If he has no further setbacks, he'll have 3 fulls months of training under his belt to go with whatever he's able to do right now.

Honestly don't see any reason why he can't be named come round 1 - but given his track record, 3 months might be a struggle to get through.

Yeah, I'm sure he's a theoretical chance. But I reckon they'll be super cautious and give him a few games of match conditioning in the SANFL.

What a boon it would be for the team if they can get him right

Spots are getting tight in 2022, this is my best for round 1.

Squeezed out are Crouch, Smith and Berry. Sloane in as captain has one more year in him. Really want Pedlar in, but can't get him in round 1, same pick 4 (hard when we don't know who he is!), Brown I expect to start but his last year as best 22. Big battle for CHB with Murray, Frampton and McAsey (?) angling for it. Himmelberg is on borrowed time although no clear replacement (Walker for one more year, then hopefully Lukoscious).

I feel that those who make it through pre-season doing everything right will get the spots between my emergencies and my field, i.e can embrace and dominate the Burgess regime. Pre-season is the worst, all that running, and now dieting. Good luck to the boys.

McHenry Thilthorpe Rowe

Fogarty Himmelberg Gollant

Dawson Laird Seedsman

Sholl Murray Doedee

Brown Butts Jones

Ruck: O'Brien, Schoenberg, Sloane

Bench: Milera, Keays, Cook, Hinge

Emerg: Crouch, Hamill, Frampton, Smith, Berry, Pedlar, McPherson, pick 4,Walker, McAdam

SANFL Depth: Murphy, McAsey, Strachan, Hately

Good Effort.

Just take out the C in Lachlan Sholl and place into Harry Schoenberg

There is no way Crouch isn't best 22 all year. Him to on ball with Schoey to half forward and Gollant out. No way Scholl plays ahead of Smith. Quite likely Frampton is favoured early ahead of either EH or Murray. But otherwise, that's the side. We'd be better off getting games into a junior mid in Rowe's spot, but we won't do that.

A fit Pedlar would likely push out Rowe.

Would be surprised if Frampton plays ahead of Murray or McAsey for most games.

There is still room for both Sholl & Smith imo.

Schoenberg will be part of the midfield mix.

Foll: O'Brien, Laird, M.Crouch

This is our best 22. Although Nicks will play McHenry over Rowe to bump up the turnover and free kick count.

Edit: Obviously Walker is suspended for calling someone a c**t, but is ostensibly in our best 22 come round 1.

Fair enough, this is for round 1 though, so probably Himmelberg for Walker?

I can't see Sloane, Laird and Crouch being our best rotation, it's one dimensional and ends up with Laird kicking it 30m in the general direction of goal. Schoenberg has to be in the first rotation IMO.
