Looking forward to this. Been a quick summer but glad the footy is back.

Like most I’m disappointed that Sharman isn’t selected. He strikes me as a player who doesn’t train very well but goes to another level when it really matters. Maybe it is an attitude or preparation issue and the coaches are sending a message. I just hope he comes back in soon because he showed a lot last year and clearly has a lot of talent. I’ll back the coaches for now though.

Stoked to see Owens. Hope Hayes kicks a goal or two. Glad to see Battle down back and he should be pleased about that. His best footy was in defence so here’s his chance.

I think we win this. Massive night for the club. Let’s get the win and start the season off well.

Only place to drink Guinness is in Ireland. I am not a drinker but fell in love with Guinness when I was there in 2018. Ordered one in Glasgow and it was shite.
I one day want to get back there (hopefully in 2023), but would fly 24 hours just to get a genuine Guinness (although the missus preferred Murphy's when down south)
Had some of the best Guinesses at a pub in East Geelong some years back- Irish style of folky country band playing..might have been the Elephant & Castle pub?

You must have a system based side 18 sides do. It’s not 1995. Richo picked the exact system for poor players. Rats will play a system that suits good average players because that is what we have. Until the midfield improves we can’t just play attacking footy. Would be a disaster.

Of course there is system, but there is a Richmond style all in on it system that relies on every player buying in and playing a role and then there is more like what Carlton played last night where it still has some individual flair in it.

It's the wife's birthday today so taking her out for dinner. She wanted 7.30pm but I said they were all booked except for 6pm...

She will catch on when we race home and switch the TV on but hopefully she's had enough wine by then to laugh it off
take her to a lovely dinner at Marvel. I hear you can get beef brisket and pizza there now

I don't remember the last time I've gone into a season feeling so flat, just can't see us having much of a chance this year.

2018 felt like it was still a development year, no expectations. 13-14-15 still felt like the hangover from a successful period, so it wasn't too bad. Maybe 2000-2001-2002, don't really remember that time well tbh.

But this year feels like we should be on the way back up because we've been down for ages, but just can't see it happening. That's not a fun feeling.
I was bullish in this season, but am now nervous on it.

Being optimistic, we have the potential to be a very good side, but it relies on Gresh, Higgins, King, Clark, Byrnes, Hill, etc having better seasons than last year. A couple of injuries and some form stagnation and it will be the same as last year.

I would say we do have the most exciting group of young players so will be looking forward to see how this year's crop + Byrne's and Bytel. Really hoping Bytel hits his straps!!

Are our selectors serious? Not playing Sharman because he is down on form when in the off season they have been playing him in defence and ruck? Great for his development.
This kind of stuff has been happening for years.
Sharman 10 goals as a twig in his first 5 games of footy... let's reward him by having no faith in him to start the year. It's crap.

Hey guys, forgive me - I realise I'm amongst enemy territory here.

My 12yo son and I came over from Adelaide for last nights game but wanted to catch St Kilda's game tonight as well. Is it sold out? I can't seem to get tickets online and can't find any way of contacting Ticketmaster.

Anyone NOT using their tickets?

Happy to purchase them off you.

Cheers

I used to know a few Paddies, Guiness is my nightmare drink, it's so heavy that it feels like you've eaten a loaf of bread for every pint. UK beers are better these days with craft beers but I'm not a huge fan of any of their old school brews. The climate doesn't make you want to drink it either. Hot Aussie summer days and super cold beer are just made for each other. If I was there I'd be on the whisky.

Carlton’s system last night was having a midfield that smashed another midfield. Happy with that system. Unfortunately we don’t have the mids for that.
