Drew who was good, but if Boak is instructed and willing to play Drew’s role, I think he is an upgrade.
Its harsh, but if you have a close decision you play the 24 year old over the 34 year old.

Ftr I think Boak is a club champion and at least partly responsible for the success of many of our younger players (Pep in particular comes to mind), but like others I do struggle to see someone I want to drop for him for round 2. He will definitely deservedly play games in the season as players are injured or out of form, but I'm not sure he is a lock for a starting 18 position.

The first half I taped off Ch 70
The second off 7+

Guess which now goes on loop

Muggins here rec Ch7 and forgot about the 6pm switch to 7+... duck duck duck . The one consolation, seeing it live esp the 3rd qtr.

Took the kids down to go to the loo with about 5 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter and ran into a mate in the concourse. We both said the same thing, same ol' Port, hinkleyball, s**t skills, all the play but can't kick goals, as we watched Gunston kick another goal.

I'm not really sure what happened after that but I'd have given $10,000/1 odds of us winning from that point, let alone by 9 goals lol.

Whether you want Hinkley gone or not, if you can't enjoy a half like that, a win like that then you're a lost cause really. That was the best half of footy we've played in a very long time. To do that to Brisbane who we haven't beaten in what feels like forever was the icing on the cake. We did to them what Sutcliffe was meant to do to them 4 years ago.

In the end we were in control of that game for all bar about 15 minutes. Did not expect that. But, when we were bad, we were really really bad. DBJ had some absolute horror moments, AA as well, at times we looked like we would not hit a target again for the rest of the season. We dropped our heads, our midfield was getting worked over from turnovers and we just couldn't stop their run for about 15 minutes.

Thankfully that was it though. We came out after half time a completely different team. Strong, fast, direct, effective, contested, arrogant. We just bullied them in the midfield, didn't allow them past half back at all and used the ball as well as we have in years. Lolwat? Where did this come from?

For me, Burton was best on ground. Dominated across half back and absolutely destroyed Cameron. Destroyed him. Was lovely to see. How good were AA and McKenzie after half time? Jonas too. They were just unpassable. Hipwood threatened in the first half to do what he normally does against us but in the end he was destroyed as well. Daniher resorted to flopping around, flying for marks he was never going to get and pretending to get pushed in the back. You know he's out of it when that happens.

And yes JHF. That opening couple of minutes where he won the ball in the middle and then slotted that goal. Oof! What a start. I thought he had 15 touches at 1/4 time but then realised that most of them were Bergman lol. Speaking of which...how ******* good was Bergman too? That was his best game at AFL level and by some margin.

Dixon looked like 2020 Dixon. He even led for the ball a few times! Couldn't believe it. And Marshall really came into it after a lacklustre first half. Perfectly flanked by Rioli who provided a lot of run, creativity and goal sense to our forward line. He'll fit in nicely.

And Lachie Jones too. Completely justified his selection with a very good game. He's still sloppy as hell but if he's capable of fixing that then he is going to be some player as well.

Well said Macca, like everybody else I didn't see the 2nd 1/2 coming and as to where it came from my take was that we played angry.

Angry at ourselves for some terrible missed shots on goal, dropped marks and the 1/2 time free kick count. Like most I went expecting a loss.

The size of the win and who the oppo were meant a lot to those there. Been a while since our crowd was that up n about.

Great win... glad I went. Oh and let's not forget the Hornet, Jnr, Burton, Slyce et al and a special * you Hinckley for fracturing the fan base.

Finally got to watch the replay.

At the ground you always see things that are missed in the video coverage and vice versa. But rarely done unless we win.

Thought the Fox coverage was pretty damned good to be honest.

But to drag out a broken record from my play list ....wtf does Ricciuto add to the coverage? Nothing from what I can tell - simplistic empty platitudes with a voice that was made for mime. And of course the idiocy of having the board member and recent footy director of the crows commenting on every Port game Fox cover remains.

They must have cleaned the replay up because the live coverage was shocking. In the first half we could hardly see the players in the shadow of the Member's Stand and every now and then the feed would momentarily drop out due to technical issues. As the sun went lower the vision improved but overall I thought it was a very amateurish effort from whatever network supplied the vision.

As for the commentary I have heard worse but that 3-13 free kick count at the end of the first quarter hardly drew a comment from the commentary team who I am sure have been directed not to criticise the Umpires. I was surprised there was not more booing and heckling of the umpires by the crowd, it is about the only thing that would get the commentators to mention umpiring standards.

Maybe they should show the umpires the replay before they go out there, that way they would not miss as much. ;)

In defence of Lachie Jones I do not think he is a defender. He looks much better up forward and in the midfield. Another plus is that he is a reasonable kick at goal. He does not seem to miss the ones he should kick- unlike some.

When picking best players in a game like yesterday's it is easy to get carried away with the second half and overlook the hard graft that was done over the four quarters. We had a few players who were abysmal in the first half but shone in the second half. Lachie Jones was probably one of those second half heroes but Charlie Dixon and Todd Marshall were not far behind him.

3rd qtr gave me flash backs to the 2014 EF against Richmond. JHF's kicking inside 50 is a breath of fresh air after years on end of hopelessly seeing our players bomb it in. Rozee's ability to turn on a dime without losing speed is incredible and hilarious seeing his opponents basically give up. Miles is going to be one of our best - hope he's a 1 club player.

Are you guys smoking drugs? Boak is absolutely a lock for a starting 22 position, he was 2nd in our best and fairest last year ffs. Sure his days are numbered but he has done nothing to warrant being kicked to the curb already. I'm 100% sure the coaches will see it that way too and he will come straight back in when fit. He definitely has a spot over Evans today, and someone else will make their way to sub, maybe Fantasia or Jones.

When I see Horne- Francis play I think Dustin Martin. JHF doesn't look anything like Dusty but he has the potential to play the same. He has that rare combination of physical strength and skill. I think as JHF develops we will see a player who is able to shrug off the tackles, run in straight lines and use the ball to advantage. Just as Martin has the physical presence and ability to bring other players into the game and change the course of a game JHF has the potential to do the same.

You know the umpiring was bad when even Graham Cornes thinks we were stiff.

I made the mistake of reading some of the replies, and those by obvious fruit tingle clowns just leap off the page as absolutely biased garbage, eg `Port players were belting guys for no reason!' o_O

I don't know what planet some of those campaigners are from, but I suspect it's a different one than most of us.

Who comes out for Boak?
I'd probably take out Evans and use Boak as sub
Either sub or Powell-Pepper as he can play a similar role.

No need though, wait until he fully fit, someone else is bound to have a niggle by then.
