Uninspiring win, but under the circumstances good signs going forward.
Soldo is an enormous upgrade on Lycett
Our backline looks solid & should only get better as the season progresses
We missed SPPs influence up front
Happy to bring in Williams for Lachie who should be played forward while SPP is out
Our Stars (Butters, Rozee, JHF & Houston) all look set for big years
Burton looks fitter & appeared to play with more urgency
Dixon shouldn’t be expected to play every game, hoping Scully & Georgie are both up for the challenge.

the umps, inc those running the boundary

we still give up at least a goal per qtr by letting the ball get out the back of the contest when we appear to be in control, it's been happening for at least 10 years now and it can/will cost games against better oppo than today

Lord is pretty much a write-off for the season IMO yea 10 weeks this 12 weeks that it's a matter of getting back conditioning & confidence post recovery, it's a long shot he plays any significant part this season.

How does Butters give away a free for being nearly decapitated by Mcgovern's swinging elbow?

You can feel anyway you choose to feel. Good crowd, 50 point win, footys back, new recruits looked good. Rozee and butters are still box office. It's only the groupthink here where you have to be miserable when you win.
Either way, the test comes in high pressure games. This won't tell us about those regardless of what happened today
Just got back from the game and reviewing the match day thread.
Those commenting on the huge gaps in the crowd on the eastern side need to understand how friggin' hot it was looking into the sun this afternoon. I was sweating buckets in tier 3 and no doubt most of the corporates behind me were inside the air-conditioned suites consuming bevvies rather than baking in their allocated seats.
We ended up vacating our prime seats at half time and watching the game under the Fig Tees on the hill.
I'm sure we've had hotter games at Adelaide Oval but that was as humid and uncomfortable as I can remember it since we started playing there.
Hoping against hope that was the main reason for the fumbling and piss poor disposals. (but I know it wasn't)
