When he's backup rather than starting 22 I think we'll all celebrate, but meantime trust me on this: If he were delisted today he'd be picked up by another team and play at least half the season.

He might play for a bottom side, that's about it. No way he plays for any top 8 team.

So basically he's a barometer for our improvement. If he's still best 22 and getting games we aren't good enough.

His extraction skills are vastly overplayed by some. He plays a very outside role especially recently off a wing. His attributes don't suit this though given he is not quick, slow to move the ball on and choose the correct decision and an unreliable kick so he just bangs it forward long in hope.

You can't say extraction is a skill for Jackson given if he's tackled he can never get his arms free like any good mid and get a handball off at least. He just goes to ground and hope he doesn't get pinged.
What a load of shit. He's exactly the kind of player you would like in wet-weather footy - which is what my post was predicated on.

If Jackson's kicking is anything like his past 123 games kicking he still will be the first name into the side next week.

I didn't mention Jacko coz he always gets a game regardless ;)

Woweee at the names who havent made the team this week. Vlastuin, White, Knights, Petterd, Astbury and last but a loonngg way from least Foley! We have depth! :D:thumbsu::D

Can't call it depth until we perform. I mean, we could add Cotchin, Deledio, Maric and Riewoldt to those names next week. We'd get flogged, but we'd have some great 'depth' to come back into the team ;)

Get my drift?

Tuck is someone who will shine in wet weather footy. He can win contested ball and extract it in tight space, get his arms free in tackles, etc. Jackson is just likely to kill any sort of play, keep it a dead ball or get pinged for htb.

Lots of good footy commentators have said good skills and decision making shine even more in the wet and I tend to be of that thinking too so can't see why Jackson is suited. He's not suited to the wet or dry he's suited to Coburg.

I do, and having said that the bottom 5 in the team may not be any better than the 5 sitting on the sidelines so it may not help us this game buuut it is just very nice to see names that I would very happily see in the side not playing. Hasnt been so easy in the past! :)

I dont think it will be really wet , forecasting rain tonight through to Lunch tomorrow but on the news they said weather will be ok for the footy.

I really hope you are right. Kicking down the line and out wide is the way to play in the wet...which is how they will apparently play now, so essentially they have practiced all summer to play in the wet. Last weeks hit out against the dogs will help us but I think dry weather footy will help us a lot more than the wet when comparing the two styles. We were shocking in the wet last year against GWS/Freo and bad in the slippery humidity of QL/NT over the last 2 years. Nice and dry please!

Spot on. Just came to post the same thing. Carlton mids will run rings around Jackson.

Getting sick of Hardwick playing favourites and his poor team selections. At least Vlas would have a positive influence, Jackson is a negative influence but will never get dropped.
IMO Jackson will play on Yarran for his negative influence .

Barnzy, Jackson's one of Dimma's mates, he's a good bloke thats a an automatic 22 position. Jackson and McGuane is what the RFC used to be. Limited footballers, with no upside and negative flaws. I thought we were past that dark era? Obviously not. Do you think Sydney, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong would have a jackson calibre footballer in their side? Nope. I heard someone comparing Milburn to Jackson once! ha.

Conca and Ellis played first up because we had no depth and were in blooding mode, Vlas can wait. No hurry.
Im probably the only one who is happy with the team... Bring em on.
Agree I'm happy with the team Bazzar. Jackson still in has me scratching my head a little but happy to see a solid lineup. Will be interesting as some have said if its raining what we might do. I'm guessing Griff out for White if that's the case.

Let me rephrase: He's exactly the kind of player you want in the wet given our list.

Im more than happy Jacko is in this round 1 team, but also hope he is gradually phased out toward the end of the year.

You obviously didnt notice which isn't a bad thing but he was very good in the role early last year untill foley went down and he was moved back into the midfield and that I agree was just all bad.

At no point last year was Jackson "very good". I know he played more of a forward role and was poor.

Not sure if its been posted yet. On my phone and haven't been able to check the forum.

Petterd isn't playing because he's injured. Not sure what he injured, though.
Vlastuin isn't playing because the leadership group made a decision this week to make him earn his spot at Coburg.

I'm sure Jackson was pushing that suggestion.
